Chapter 1

'' Chapter 1: I am coming for you! '' "Are you sure about this, James?" Diana inquired, her voice tinged with worry as they both made their way out of the secret warehouse. It was always midnight; the stars sparkled in the sky like diamonds on a necklace. The air smelled fresh, like after rain, and the ground was muddy beneath their feet. "When have I ever failed you, love?" James replied sincerely, his grip tightening around her hand. Diana felt her heart skip a beat at his touch, a warmth spreading through her that chased away her doubts. Although Diana Wales was a top-notch assassin and spy in New York, she had a soft spot, and that was her boyfriend, James Fallon. She had fallen in love with him after he saved her from a drowning incident years ago. Running, they veered into an alley on the right, their feet pounding against the pavement as the distant barks of dogs echoed throughout the night. Gunshots rang out. Bang! Bang! Bang! "The shots are getting closer. We should call the backup you planned to come get us now. I don't think we can take all of them down," Diana explained, urgency threading her voice. They had broken into the mafia boss Enzo Ricci's warehouse and taken a flash drive. The contents of the drive were enough to bring down Enzo and all the territories under his control. This would give James the chance to become the new mafia boss. Diana had no clue what the contents were, but she trusted James. That was more than enough. Bang! More gunshots echoed in the air. Diana pulled out her revolver, her posture shifting to one of fierce determination as she began shooting back at the group of men approaching them. With precision, she took out twenty men in less than five minutes while James hid behind another truck, peeking out cautiously to protect himself from the rain of bullets. Bang! A bullet grazed Diana's arm. She hissed in pain, blood dripping from the wound, but her resolve only hardened. As the city's top assassin, she channeled her anger into the pain of the wound. Swiftly, she reloaded her revolver, aiming at the truck, and shot both its tires, sending it spiraling down the street. She watched with a smirk as the men jumped from the vehicle, while some unlucky ones went down with the car as it tumbled down the hill. Now left with a handful of men, Diana took a fighting stance. With her gun running out of bullets, she engaged them physically. One man kicked her in the chest, and she turned, landing a punch on his face that sent him reeling. Diana fought fiercely, her fists flying until she had dealt with all the men. They lay on the ground in pain while she stood tall, her height of five feet eleven giving her an imposing presence. Her well-built physique was perfectly suited for the assassin job she had trained for. Recruited at the age of eight after her entire family was wiped out by the Red Dragon criminal organization, it had become her lifelong dream to bring them down. Fortunately, she found James, who had also been part of the organization and wanted revenge too. They were a perfect couple, united in their shared goal. Time was running out; they had to escape with the disc that contained vital information about the organization so that she could bring them to their knees. The Long Sleeve Association, which she belonged to, would be elated by her success. She turned to leave, grabbing James's hand. "We need to get out of here before they send backups. It will only stall us," she urged, glancing nervously around. James nodded vigorously, taking the envelope that contained the disc while she remained focused on the goons. A car sped toward them, and Diana shot James a glance, signaling that they should part ways. They did-James jumped to the other side while she rolled on the ground, shooting at the car's tires as she had a chance. The car screeched to a halt, but a woman jumped out, and James caught her. Diana blinked, disbelief washing over her. She got up from the ground, gripping her gun tightly, her heart racing with skepticism. "Who is she, James?" Diana asked, her voice steady but laced with tension. This simple action made James swallow hard; he knew what it meant. Diana was heartless and could kill anyone in a heartbeat. "She is my friend," he replied cautiously, glancing between Diana and the woman. "Really?" Diana narrowed her eyes, a sneer forming on her lips as she took a threatening step forward. The woman looked bored, holding James's arm possessively and pressing a kiss on his cheek. "I am his wife. Who are you?" she said nonchalantly, her tone dripping with disdain. "Your wife?" Diana echoed, disbelief flooding her. "Winifred-" "Why not?" Winifred shot back, her nose flaring as she glanced at the envelope, then at Diana, a look of betrayal crossing her face. "We got the envelope, which will enhance your promotion in the organization. We don't need her anymore." "Won't she kill us?" James asked, his voice shaky, fear evident in his eyes. "No. This isn't that type of story; here, the villains win." Winifred smirked, throwing a gaze at a window of a distant building. A man stood there, lifting his thumb to signal. Winifred accepted the signal. Bang! The bullet flew straight past Diana's heart. She fell to her knees, tears pooling in her eyes for the first time since her parents had died. The betrayal was too much to handle. James had said he loved her. He had promised to help her avenge her family. She had given him everything-her money, her body. How could she have been so foolish? Her friends had warned her against him, but she had been blinded by his false love. They had even gotten engaged while he was married to another woman. Bang! Another bullet struck her stomach, and it felt like her skin was melting. Diana collapsed, blood leaking from her body like gasoline. "Tsk, tsk. Who would have thought the world's greatest assassin, Diana, would die so easily, huh? She didn't even fight back," James crooned, a cruel smile spreading across his face as he held up the envelope. "This is my ticket to becoming the right-hand man of our organization. My uncle will have no choice but to give me my rightful place. And soon, I will kill him and become the capo of New York." "You will never succeed," Diana gasped, struggling to speak through gritted teeth, her spirit unbroken even in her darkest moment. "Why? You're already dying. Any last wishes?" he taunted, leaning closer, his voice dripping with mockery. "I will come back for the three of you and will enjoy killing each one of you," she managed to say, her voice fierce despite the pain. "Haha, isn't she brave, babe?" James laughed, glancing at Winifred, who rolled her eyes. James's cold expression softened as he looked at his wife. He reached out, rubbing Diana's stomach gently. "I told you, right? This woman is delusional. We should leave. The baby won't like such an atmosphere." The baby? "Yes, I'm not impotent, Diana, honey. I just didn't want to have any babies with your DNA." Another revelation had Diana reeling. She had gotten pregnant, but he had told her that he was impotent and accused her of infidelity. "She was pregnant, right?" Winifred asked, her tone mocking, a smirk dancing on her lips. "Yes. I told her she cheated, and the idiot believed me. I also snitched to the organization, who poisoned her tea, which led to the miscarriage. She was not going to do it herself and was even willing to escape and take care of that bastard." "I will kill you!" Diana struggled to say, rage fueling her words, her spirit igniting with vengeance. How could he kill their baby? Diana had been excited to be a mother; that baby was the only blood relative she had left. And he killed it! Monster! "Not when you're dead, honey," James replied coldly, his eyes gleaming with satisfaction. With that, James pulled the trigger, aiming for her head. He grabbed his wife's waist, and they shared a passionate kiss while Diana's soul cried out in anguish. "God, please give me another chance to avenge myself and my baby," she pleaded silently, watching the couple dance over her corpse. They gathered all the bodies into the warehouse and threw a grenade inside. The bodies exploded into pieces. Diana's soul watched this with red eyes, swearing, "James and Winifred, watch out! I am coming for you! This time, I will bring down the organization too!"

One Hundred Reasons To Walk Away
7.3
For three years, I documented my husband Ashton's neglect in a secret ledger I called "The Song of a Hundred Reasons." The final reason came not as a quiet slight, but as a deafening crash. When a massive chandelier fell towards us in a restaurant, Ashton didn't hesitate. He shoved his "best friend" Bailey to safety, shielding her with his body while I was left to be crushed. I woke up in the hospital with broken ribs and a severe concussion. He never visited. Instead, he spent a fortune on a private med-jet to fly Bailey to a luxury retreat for her "panic attack." Her well-being was paramount; mine was an afterthought. That was the final reason. I signed the divorce papers from my hospital bed and never looked back. Two years later, holding a Grammy for my hit album "Song of a Hundred Reasons," he showed up, begging for a second chance.
