Raising The Ruthless Billionaire's Stolen Heir Novel Cover

Raising The Ruthless Billionaire's Stolen Heir

My husband forced me to sign divorce papers over my supposed infertility, so I left New York with nothing and adopted an abandoned baby boy named Leo. For four years, we lived in peace—until a fleet of black SUVs surrounded my apartment. Damien Montgomery, a ruthless billionaire, threw a DNA test at my feet, insisting Leo is his stolen heir. His bodyguards dragged us to his fortress estate, and the trauma left Leo fighting for his life in the hospital. There, I ran into my ex-husband and his new wife, holding a boy nearly four years old. Divorced exactly four years ago for being "barren," the math was impossible. My infertility was a calculated lie. Now, caught between a tyrant trying to take my son and the truth of my past, I'm done being manipulated—and I'm ready to make them all pay.

Chapter 3

Back in the apartment, Deana placed the basket gently on the bed. Under the full glare of the overhead light, she finally got a proper look at him. He was so small, his face wrinkled and serene in sleep. A dusting of soft, dark hair covered his head.

Tucked into his swaddling blanket, she found a small square of fabric, a piece of a larger garment perhaps, with a single, elegantly embroidered letter: 'L'.

Panic began to set in. She knew nothing about babies.

She flipped open her laptop, the sudden glow illuminating her pale face. Her search history quickly filled with frantic queries: how to feed a newborn, what kind of formula to buy, how often do you change a diaper.

The 24-hour supermarket on the edge of town became her salvation. She raced through the aisles, grabbing formula, bottles, diapers, wipes-an entire arsenal for a war she had no idea how to fight.

When she returned, the baby was awake and crying, a full-throated, demanding wail. Her hands shook as she mixed the formula, testing the temperature on her wrist again and again, terrified of getting it wrong.

She lifted the tiny, squirming bundle from the basket. He felt so fragile in her arms. She offered him the bottle.

He latched on immediately, sucking greedily.

Watching him, a wave of tenderness so profound washed over her that it made her dizzy. The raw, gaping wound in her soul began to feel... less empty.

She fed him, then fumbled her way through her first diaper change. It was a clumsy, messy affair, but she managed.

She didn't sleep that night. She sat in the worn armchair, holding the baby against her chest, watching his small body rise and fall with each breath. As the sun rose, casting a soft pink light into the room, a sense of calm settled over her.

She would call him Leo. For the lionhearted strength he would need. And for the letter 'L', his only link to a past she would never know.

But love wasn't enough. She knew she had to make his existence, their existence, legal. She couldn't hide him forever.

Her laptop became her portal again, this time to the dense, confusing world of adoption law. It was more complicated than she ever imagined.

She found a local lawyer, a kind-faced man named Mr. Abernathy. She sat in his dusty office, the baby sleeping in a carrier at her feet, and she lied.

She told him she was a distant relative. That the baby's mother had passed away, the father was unknown. It was a thin story, but it was the only one she had.

Mr. Abernathy advised her to first apply for temporary guardianship. The law required them to post a notice through social services, a public call for any biological relatives to come forward.

Deana's stomach twisted in knots. The thought of his birth mother changing her mind, of someone coming to take him away, was a constant, terrifying hum beneath the surface of her days. But she knew it was a necessary risk.

She registered with the county's social services, her hands trembling as she filled out the paperwork.

The next few months were an agony of waiting. She cared for Leo, her love for him growing deeper with every passing day. She learned the cadence of his cries, the shape of his sleepy smiles.

She used the last of her savings to set up a small nursery in the second room of the apartment. She painted the walls a soft yellow and hung a mobile of smiling stars above his crib.

To make money, she fell back on her old skills, taking on freelance fashion design work online. The pay was sporadic, but it was enough to get by.

Leo was thriving. He was starting to laugh, a gurgling, joyous sound that was the most beautiful thing Deana had ever heard. He would reach for her, his tiny fingers curling around hers.

She couldn't imagine a life without him. He was her son.

Finally, the mandatory period for the public notice expired.

No one had come forward.

The relief was so immense, it left her weak. She immediately filed the official adoption petition with the court.

A social worker visited their apartment. A stern-looking woman who softened when she saw the clean, loving home Deana had created for Leo. She saw the adoration in Deana's eyes, the clear, unbreakable bond between them. Her report was glowing.

The day in court was a blur. Deana held Leo tight, her heart pounding against her ribs.

The judge, a woman with kind eyes, reviewed the case. She smiled at Deana.

"It seems this little man has already found his mother."

She banged the gavel. The sound was solid. Final.

"The adoption is approved."

Tears streamed down Deana's face. She hugged Leo, burying her face in his soft hair. He was hers. Legally. Irrevocably.

She got a new birth certificate for him. Father: Unknown. Mother: Deana Porter.

That night, she called Jessica and told her everything. Jessica was happy for her, but Deana could hear the worry in her voice. The worry of a single mother with no support system.

But Deana wasn't afraid.

She held Leo in her arms, back in their little yellow nursery. She kissed his forehead, his scent of milk and baby powder filling her senses.

"Leo," she whispered, her voice thick with emotion. "It's just us now. We're a family."
