Chapter 1

Third POV

“Congratulations.”

“Mrs. Miles, you're pregnant with quadruplets, two boys and two girls. You ought to take an ante-natal check up more seriously.”

The doctor announced it to Estella. Despite being told to be carrying four babies, she jumped up so high in the air, squealing.

Then the tears came. She sniffled, trying to hold back tears of joy as she stared at the test result on the medical result sheet. A tear dropped on the paper which she gently dipped in her finger.

“Doctor, is this true?” She asked with a sniffle. “The doctors said I'll never be able to have a baby because of a rare genetic disorder. Oh my God! Cameron and I are having four babies!” She raised her voice as she spoke to the doctor, almost crying.

The doctor came closer and pulled her into a light hug. “I understand your plight but sometimes it's good to hang on,” she whispered into her ears.

It was quite uneasy for Estella to believe that such a beautiful thing could happen to her after all the sufferings and emotional turmoil she's been through.

It’s been five years since she became the wife of a famous billionaire capitalist. Being from a royal descent, she's expected to marry someone of noble status but Cameron isn't in any way noble in character.

Estella has had to endure a lot of insults and abuses from Cameron, still he never stopped to make sure she suffered. He called her a man as often as possible and regretted getting married to her because she couldn't give him a baby.

Even when Estella was tested and acclaimed barren for life, she didn't give up hope and her fertility treatment. In the end, it paid off much more than she expected.

She brushed the tear away with her free hand, smiling.

Today was her husband's birthday and she had for a long time thought of what to give him as a birthday present without arriving at any idea. This would be the most perfect of all birthday gifts. She clutched the file to her chest, then carefully placed it in a folder inside her bag.

She left the hospital, smiling so wide and walked to her car where her driver was already waiting for her.

“Ma'am, you're off work so early? Why did you call me so early to pick you up?” Her driver was quite puzzled. Working as an urologist and clinical massager in the same hospital, her work shift ends in the afternoon but this was just 10 AM.

“I have some important news to deliver to my husband,” she uttered, flinching her head over to the window to hide the smile on her lips.

While waiting for the traffic light to turn green on the road, an idea came to mind. She decided to Google through her phone for the best surprise approaches to announce a pregnancy. She wished to surprise her husband.

“Who's at the door?” Cameron’s hoarse voice came through the moment he heard the visitor's alarm tone ring on the door. It was an automated one that could identify and speak out the name or description of the person on the door.

This wasn't at home but the hotel where he was lodging. It's been a long time since he slept at home. He goes from the hotel, one of his very own to his office, still at the hotel vicinity or outside, depending on which office he wanted to work from on a particular day.

“Estella is here to see you, Mr Miles,” the AI answered immediately with a steady voice.

“I don’t expect to see her.” He was indirectly telling the digitized door not to open for her.

After a few seconds, the voice spoke up again. “She says she has very critical news, you should let her in.”

Cameron sighed, but his eyes suddenly glanced at the documents just sent by the lawyer, and his tone changed “Let her in.”

The door opened and Estella walked in, sniffing in the nice scent of the room, as well as admiring the interiors of his apartment here.

“No wonder you don't like coming home. Home is where the heart is,” she shrugged her shoulders in a bit to emphasize her point.

“I don't know what home is with you,” she replied with a cold voice.

He frowned the more when he noticed her still smiling, he always loved to see her in pain. This angered him the more. He rose up with fury in his eyes but acting cool.

“Why are you here?” His voice came out really harsh, just like always.

Estella swallowed painfully. Her smile faded but she managed to gather some strength to say what was in her mind. “I just wish his mood will change after announcing this,” she muttered inside of her.

“Today’s your birthday and I thought I could give you a priceless gift that will make you happy. Don’t you think it’s time you smile right at me? I've been missing this for so long.”

“Huh?” She asked further when there was no response from him.

“Smile at you?”

Estella nodded, then took closer steps to the couch he sat on. She pulled out a fancy parcel from her bag, handing it over to him.

“What’s this?”

“Probably, you have to open it and go through it yourself,” she said, winding her eyes in amusement.

The parcel contained the medical result sheet from the hospital, she just decided to add a piece of suspense by putting it in a parcel.

Cameron didn’t open the parcel to see what was in there but rather tore it into two with all his strength. He threw the paper pieces at Estella.

Estella shrieked in horror, raising her brows in horror. This felt like a dream before her eyes.

“Did you just tear the priceless gift I gave you?”

“Aren't you too old to try to impress me with useless things? You know what I actually need and you can't give me. Why did I even marry you at all?”

The crystal glasses gleamed under the chandelier light as I carefully arranged them on the silver tray. Each one had to be perfectly positioned—not too close, not too far apart. Mr. Wallace was particular about these things. Tonight was his birthday, and everything had to be flawless. I smoothed down my plain black dress, the fabric worn thin at the elbows from years of scrubbing and cleaning. It was the nicest one I owned, though it paled in comparison to what the other guests would be wearing. "The napkins should be folded like this, Kenna," I whispered to myself, demonstrating the intricate fold Mr. Wallace preferred. "Not like that." Three years.

The grocery bags felt heavy in my arms as I juggled them while unlocking the door to our apartment building. Behind me, my twin daughters chattered excitedly about the cookies we'd just bought, their small voices bringing a smile to my face despite the weight of the packages. "Mommy, can we bake them now?" Emma asked, tugging at my coat sleeve. "Not right now, sweetheart," I replied, balancing the bags as I pushed the door open. "Daddy will be home soon, and we'll all bake together." These moments—simple, ordinary, filled with the warmth of my children's laughter—were what I lived for now. They were what had saved me after everything fell apart three years ago. From sixteen to twenty-six, Dante Alexander had been my entire world. We were New York's golden couple, envied by everyone who knew us. I had given him ten years of my life, believing we would spend forever together. Then Eliana Jones returned from abroad.

I stared at the untouched scrambled eggs on my plate, watching them slowly lose their warmth as Derek's words hung in the air between us. "I need you to step down from your position at Morrison," he said, not even looking up from his phone. The morning light streaming through our kitchen window caught the gold of his wedding band—a ring he still wore despite this being our seventh divorce proceeding. "Derek, we've talked about this." I kept my voice steady, though something inside me was already crumbling. "This promotion means everything to me. I've worked three years for this opportunity." He finally looked up, his blue eyes cold and distant. "Mara needs it more." Of course. Mara always needed everything more. "Mara has connections," he continued, his tone dismissive. "She can bring investors to Morrison that you never could.

The morning light filtered through Sterling Department Store's tall windows as I arranged the latest Chanel display, each bottle positioned with the precision my mother had taught me years ago. "Quality speaks for itself, Victoria," she used to say, "but only to those who know how to listen." I touched the simple silver bracelet on my wrist—her final gift—and smiled at the memory. "You're here early again," Rebecca Chen observed, wheeling a cart of new inventory toward the counter. My colleague had become a genuine friend over these past months, one of the few people who treated me simply as Victoria the sales associate, not knowing I was Victoria Rogers, daughter of the man whose name graced the building's cornerstone. "I like the quiet before the storm," I replied, adjusting a display of Tom Ford lipsticks. "Besides, we have those aggressive sales targets to hit this month." Rebecca groaned dramatically. "Don't remind me. Sometimes I wonder if corporate lives in a fantasy world, expecting us to move luxury products like they're candy bars." If only she knew that "corporate" was currently standing three feet away from her, wearing a simple black blazer from Target and a name tag that read "Victoria - Beauty Consultant." The irony wasn't lost on me that I understood our sales challenges better than most executives precisely because I was working the floor. "Trust me," I said, organizing the morning's paperwork, "the key is understanding what each customer really needs, not just what they think they want." The store's atmosphere shifted as the first wave of shoppers trickled in. I was reviewing our inventory reports when a familiar laugh echoed across the cosmetics section—a sound that once made my heart race but now sent an uncomfortable chill down my spine.

The shrill ring of my phone cut through the darkness, jolting me from a fitful sleep. 3:07 AM glowed on my bedside clock, casting an eerie blue light across my small Brooklyn bedroom. My heart immediately lurched into my throat—nothing good ever came from calls at this hour. I fumbled for my phone, nearly knocking over the glass of water on my nightstand. "Hello?" My voice was thick with sleep, but the adrenaline was already coursing through my veins. "Miss Harper." The formal, measured voice of Arthur Vance, my family's longtime lawyer, sent ice through my veins. "I regret to inform you that your father has suffered a massive heart attack. He's been rushed to Mount Sinai Hospital from the Hamptons estate. The doctors... they're not optimistic." My father.
