Chapter 1

My name is Reinesme Casioler, and I was only twenty years old when I discovered the truth that would transform my entire life. A truth that would reshape my future, rewrite my destiny, and turn my quiet, simple world upside down in ways I could never have imagined.

I still remember that night clearly — the night everything changed. It began like any other evening in the Montemayor household. The grand chandeliers cast a warm, golden glow over the marble floors, and the scent of expensive perfume and polished wood lingered in the air. I had finished my duties for the day — dusting the library, preparing his study, setting the table for dinner — and was about to retreat to my small quarters in the servants' wing when he called my name.

"Reinesme," Yvan said, his voice deep and resonant, the kind of voice that commanded attention without even trying. "Would you stay for a moment?"

He stood by the large window in the living room, gazing out at the vast garden beneath the moonlight. His presence was commanding — broad shoulders, tall and authoritative, the kind of presence any woman would notice. This was Yvan Montemayor, and everything he possessed was something I did not. He was the heir to the Montemayor family — billions of pesos in assets, a name known worldwide, and a future that needed nothing more. And me? I was merely a maid in his home. A college student dividing my time between work and studies to pay for my education, invisible to most of the world — but never to him. He saw every struggle I faced, and he helped me.

I walked toward him, and my heart began that familiar, foolish flutter it always did whenever I was near him. "Is there anything else you need, Sir?"

He turned to me, and in the dim light, his dark eyes seemed even more captivating. "Yvan," he corrected gently. "How many times must I tell you? When it is just the two of us here, call me Yvan."

I lowered my gaze, feeling my cheeks grow warm. "It isn't proper for me, Sir. You are my employer."

"And you are a human being," he said, taking a step closer. "A beautiful, intelligent, and remarkable human being. Do you know how often I watch you, Reinesme? The way you hum softly while you work? The way you tuck your hair behind your ear when you are thinking deeply? The way you look at the world with such kindness in your eyes?"

I could not breathe. I had never heard him speak like this. "Sir..."

"I know I should not be saying this," he whispered, stepping closer until he stood right before me. "And I know where the line is drawn. But there are things... things that refuse to stay where they belong."

And then he kissed me. It was innocent and soft at first — a tentative meeting of lips, as if he were asking permission, as if he were afraid I would pull away. But when I didn't — when I leaned into him instead — everything changed. The kiss deepened, turning into something fiery, something burning between us that neither of us could control. It was a moment of madness, of weakness, of pure, unadulterated longing. We had crossed a line that neither of us could ever go back from.

That night became etched in my memory forever — the feeling of his skin against mine, the way he spoke my name as if it were something precious. A night of desire, yes, but also filled with tenderness and love. He touched me as if I were something fragile, something to be cherished. And in the quiet hours before dawn, I fell completely in love with the one man I should never have wanted.

But morning came, as it always does. The sunlight streamed through the curtains, and reality rushed back in. He was Yvan Montemayor. And I was just Reinesme — the maid. We said nothing of what had happened. We returned to our roles, as if trying to pretend that the earth hadn't shifted beneath our feet. But everything was different now. The air between us crackled with unspoken words. His glances lingered longer. My heart raced faster. We were dancing around a secret that felt too big to hold, too dangerous to speak aloud.

A few weeks after that night, strange signs began to appear. At first, I tried to ignore them, telling myself it was just exhaustion from work and studies. But the truth was impossible to deny. Every morning, I woke up vomiting, and the dizziness would not go away. My favorite foods — the simple dishes I had grown up eating — suddenly made me sick just at the smell. And my period... it never came. Not by a day, not by two weeks — it had simply stopped.

Fear took hold of my heart. I told myself over and over that it was impossible. Maybe my body was just tired. But deep down, I knew.

My hands trembled so badly I could barely hold my coins as I walked toward the nearest pharmacy. I kept my head down, hiding my face behind my hair, afraid someone from their household would recognize me, afraid of the truth I was about to learn. I bought a pregnancy test, my voice barely a whisper, and walked home clutching the small plastic bag against my chest.

I locked myself in my bedroom bathroom, my heart pounding like a bird desperate to be free. With shaking hands, I followed the instructions, placed the test beside the sink, and waited.

They were the longest three minutes of my life. I stared at the small device, holding my breath, silently praying that it would be negative — that this was all a mistake, that it wasn't true. But no one heard my prayers.

And then...

Two lines.

Clear. Unmistakable.
