Chapter 5

Alina barely spared the lobster a glance before moving with practiced ease. She held it steady with one hand and used her fork to lift the tail meat cleanly. Then, with a small spoon, she carefully gathered the tender flesh from the head and claws. Each movement flowed naturally, precise and controlled, as if it were second nature. The elegance of her actions made her stand out, even among the Gilberts. Kenzie's eyes widened, and a surge of jealousy twisted inside her. With a sharp edge to her voice, she said, "Well, Alina, seems like you've been secretly copying Jessica just to get your table manners right." Before her words could linger, Alina tapped the back of Kenzie's hand lightly. Alina's gaze turned cold. "Mind your tone. Looks like I'll have to teach you some manners, so you don't embarrass yourself in public." Rage nearly overwhelmed Kenzie. Alina really thought she could act like the lady of the house now? She shot Pamela a desperate look, hoping for support, but Pamela only smiled. "I didn't expect Alina to carry herself so well. Kenzie, she's right. You should learn from her." Left without a comeback, Kenzie felt her anger rise to the point of dizziness. The long, tense meal finally ended. The moment she found Alina alone, Kenzie rushed over and blocked her path. "Alina, you..." The insult she wanted to say died on her lips when she saw Alina's raised hand. Swallowing it back, she changed her words. "How can you be so shameless? You threw away your long-term boyfriend just to marry into a wealthy family. You're ruthless." Alina found it almost amusing. "Kenzie, what makes you so sure I was the one who chose to switch places?" With complete confidence, Kenzie spoke. "Jessica is kind. She would never do something like that. I talked to her last night, and she told me everything. You were the one desperate to cling to our family. You even forced your way into marrying Uncle Kellan, knowing he's disfigured and can't have children. You're incredibly manipulative." A cold sneer appeared on Alina's lips. Jessica again. It seemed she had been spreading rumors behind her back. "Then answer me this," Alina responded, her voice turning icy. "With your uncle's condition, do you really think Jessica would've agreed to marry him willingly?" Kenzie fell silent. Deep down, she knew that if she were in Jessica's place, she wouldn't have agreed either. Even though the logic didn't sit right, she refused to admit it. "Jessica is kind. She would never look down on Uncle Kellan." Alina lost interest in continuing the argument. Dealing with someone so clueless wasn't worth her time. It baffled her that someone as sharp as Kellan could have such a foolish niece. Without another word, Alina returned to her room upstairs. Kellan wasn't there, which gave her a moment of peace. She opened her laptop to work, but a thought from earlier surfaced, and she decided to make a call. On the other end, a respectful voice answered. "How may I assist you?" Alina spoke directly. "Is there someone named Jessica Hayes working in our lab?" "Jessica Hayes? I don't recognize that name. Give me a moment, I'll look into it." After a short pause, the subordinate came back on the line. "I found her. She joined about six months ago and is currently working as a project assistant." It was a low-level role, the kind most people wouldn't even notice. Given her position as lab director, Alina had no reason to pay attention to someone like that. With a quiet acknowledgment, Alina ended the call. At that moment, a new message from Jessica appeared on her phone. It read, "OMG, Alan is being so good to me! He even bought me an incredibly expensive wedding gift!" A photo followed—Vick's custom-designed necklace, worth over five million dollars. Alina stared at the screen without any visible reaction. She couldn't help recalling that, during their entire relationship, the priciest thing Alan had ever given her was a dress worth five hundred dollars. Moments later, another image came through, this time showing Jessica and Alan in an intimate pose. Along with it came another message. "Alan treats me like a princess. I don't even know how to handle it. By the way, have you met that scarred man? Hope he didn't scare you too much." Alina didn't bother replying. Instead, she captured screenshots of the entire conversation and saved them. Then she set her phone aside and returned to her work. She had been occupied with her work until evening fell. After taking a shower that night, she wrapped a towel around herself and began drying her hair. The sound of the hairdryer masked the faint sound of the door opening. When Kellan stepped inside, his gaze immediately landed on her back as she stood there, drying her hair. Her long legs were fully visible, their lines smooth and graceful. The graceful line of her neck was especially eye-catching. Kellan instantly felt a strong reaction stir within him. Without hesitation, he walked toward her. "Ah!" Alina screamed when arms suddenly wrapped around her from behind. She turned quickly, only to meet Kellan's face. Before she could react, his lips pressed firmly against hers.

Elizbeth married the wealthy heir Carlton Wilkinson to save her grandfather's life's work. But on their wedding night, instead of a loving husband, she faced a cold tyrant. He forced her to sign a brutal prenup, stripped her of all family rights, and banished her to a dingy guest room. He was convinced she was just a pathetic, gold-digging liar. When a catastrophic pain attack drove Carlton to smash his own head against the wall, Elizbeth rushed in to save him using her specialized acupuncture. She risked her life to calm his spasming nerves. But the moment he woke up, he nearly choked her to death. He threw her against the wall, bleeding and bruised, accusing her of using cheap parlor tricks to poison him. The next morning, his greedy relatives openly mocked her cheap clothes, waiting like vultures for Carlton to drop dead so they could steal his fortune. Elizbeth was humiliated and terrified, but she soon discovered a classified secret. Carlton was a former Delta Force operator slowly going mad from an undetectable weaponized biotoxin. The poison made him paranoid and violent. He would rather die in agony than accept help from a woman he despised. Begged by his desperate grandfather, Elizbeth knew she had to cure him in the shadows. At 1:00 AM, she slipped a heavy, odorless sedative into his water and sneaked into his pitch-black bedroom to begin the detox. But as her silver needle hovered over his skin, a massive hand shot out and pinned her violently to the mattress. "How much did they pay you to poison me?" he hissed in the dark, his eyes wide awake and blazing with murderous fury.
More Than His Partner, She's Queen

For five years, I was Ashton Miller's invisible partner, his loyal fiancée, pouring my life into building his empire from the shadows. Tonight, the Bronze Deer exhibition, my masterpiece, was finally opening at the Met, a testament to our shared future. Then, Bianca, a third-tier actress, stepped into the spotlight in *my* custom Vera Wang wedding dress. My blood ran cold as Ashton's arm circled her waist, his whispered words promising to make her the "new queen of the city." Five years of trust and sacrifice crumbled. I was a blood bag, drained and discarded. When I publicly exposed their lies, Ashton cornered me backstage, his face twisted in fury, threatening to ruin me, to blacklist me forever. I ripped off his engagement ring, tossing it at his chest. "We're done," I said, walking out as his enraged screams echoed. The man whose empire I secretly built called me a parasite, his mistress feigning tears, painting me as delusional. My guilt vanished, replaced by freezing, absolute hatred for the man who twisted reality to erase my existence. Standing in the New York rain, I finally pulled out the military-grade encrypted phone hidden for five years. The line clicked open instantly, a low, gravelly voice asking, "Is it you?" Before I could answer, Archer's voice hardened: "Give me the location. I'll be there in ten minutes. Who touched you? I want his life."
Signed The Papers: Watch Me Shine Now

For six years, I was the perfect, obedient wife to billionaire Hartwell Ware, enduring his coldness because I thought my love could eventually thaw his heart. Then, my friend sent me a photo. Hartwell was at the airport, tenderly holding the waist of his first love, Eveline Craig. He came home smelling of her synthetic rose perfume, accused me of stalking him, and coldly demanded a divorce. His lawyer handed me a thick settlement agreement. It offered astronomical alimony and luxury properties, but it came with a humiliating ten-page non-disclosure agreement. He wanted to buy my silence. He wanted to strip me of my rights to our son and gag me permanently, just so he could parade his new life with Eveline without any PR backlash. Even now, he still thought I was a gold digger who had orchestrated a media scandal to trap him into marriage. I stared at the man I had worshipped for two thousand days. My six years of desperate devotion had been nothing but a humiliating, one-sided delusion. Hope was finally dead, and with it, my tears had completely dried up. He expected me to cry, to beg, to negotiate for more millions. Instead, I snatched the pen, crossed out the massive alimony, and signed my name on the dotted line. "I am taking the basic child support, and not a single red cent more." Leaving my five-carat diamond ring on the marble table, I walked out the door with nothing but my old suitcase.
The Betrayed Wife's Ruthless Comeback

My billionaire husband, Cooper, was thirty minutes late to my father's funeral. When the heavy cathedral doors finally opened, he wasn't there to comfort me. He was tightly shielding his mistress, Celeste, under his umbrella, treating her like a fragile lily while I stood alone in my black mourning dress. The whispers in the pews were deafening, but they were nothing compared to the truth I soon uncovered. Cooper hadn't just humiliated me—he had secretly taken my father's life-saving spot in a medical clinical trial and given it to Celeste's family. My father died gasping for air because of him. Days later, while I was shivering in the ER with a 103-degree fever, I saw Cooper sneaking into the VIP maternity ward. He was holding Celeste, his face glowing with the ecstatic joy of a man about to become a father. For three years, I swallowed my pride to be his perfect, obedient wife, only to let his elite friends openly mock me to my face. "You were just keeping the seat warm until the real queen came back." He let my father die, hid all our marital assets in offshore trusts, and made me take birth control every single morning, claiming he wasn't ready for kids. I didn't scream, and I didn't let him see me break. Instead, I hired Manhattan's most ruthless divorce lawyer, smiled sweetly as I handed Cooper his coat at home, and began secretly gathering the evidence to burn his entire empire to the ground.
