My Mate’s Betrayal Chapter 1

I died not knowing Rowan had fallen for another. So, I made a deal with the witch, exchanging my wolf heart for seven days of life.

Seven years ago, during a territorial conflict between wolf tribes, I lost my sight while saving Rowan.

My deal with the witch not only gave me seven days but also restored my vision.

Overjoyed, I rushed to Rowan’s home under the moonlight. I was eager to share my miracle with him, even if I had only seven days left.

However, he was in the arms of another woman.

Rowan’s cruel words echoed in my mind:

"You know how to please me so much better than that blind princess ever did."

"I’ve had enough of her lifeless eyes. Every time I look at her, I feel like I’m shackled by chains of duty and morality. I can’t breathe around her!"

His harsh words and the sounds of their intimacy crushed the last of my hope.

I was going to die soon, and with the short life I had traded the wolf heart of a Moonshadow Wolf Tribe Princess for, I had only lived long enough to witness Rowan’s betrayal.

After barely escaping death, I rushed to Rowan Herman’s house.

Finally, I could see again and couldn’t wait to tell him in person!

With my remaining seven days as a normal person, I wanted to spend them with him.

My steps were hurried, my heart racing. Even though I could see the moonlit night again, I had no time to admire its beauty.

All I could picture was Rowan’s handsome and gentle face. It had been seven long years since I last saw him clearly.

However, when I reached Rowan’s villa, just as I was about to knock, I froze.

From inside, I heard breathless sounds.

I tilted my head, listened carefully, and glanced up at the familiar entrance to make sure I hadn’t gone to the wrong place.

“How about it, Rowan? Isn’t it more thrilling for us to mate in our true wolf forms?”

That voice… It belonged to my younger sister, Evelyn Dougherty!

“Tell me, Rowan,” Evelyn gasped between breathy moans, “Who do you like being with more? Me or my sister, Mia?”

I covered a hand over my mouth in disbelief.

“Of course, it’s you, my little temptress. You know how to please me so much better than Mia ever did,” Rowan’s voice came next, rough and panting.

“Honestly, I’ve had enough of that blind princess and her lifeless eyes. Every time I look at her, I feel like I’m shackled by chains of duty and morality. I can’t breathe around her!”

Evelyn’s tone was laced with triumph. “See? I’m smarter than her, I know how to satisfy you, and most importantly, I’m not blind. So why don’t you just break off the engagement with her and be with me instead?”

I bit my lip hard, my nails digging into my palms. My heart clung to the last shred of hope that Rowan would reject her.

“No way, Evelyn.”

I exhaled shakily, relief washing over me.

Then he sighed and added, “You know I can’t do that. She saved my life. We’ve been together for years. And besides, Mia is the only princess of the Moonshadow Wolf Tribe.”

My hands clenched into fists as tears spilled down my cheeks.

After everything we’d been through, was I nothing more than a debt he had to repay? Did he love me or my title of princess?

Evelyn scoffed. “Hmph! Just because she was born a year before me, she gets to be the princess? That’s not fair. Just you wait, Rowan. Soon, I’ll be the princess of Moonshadow Wolf Tribe!”

“What did you do to Mia? I won’t forgive you if you even think about hurting her!” Rowan’s voice turned sharp, all traces of tenderness gone.

It was too late, though. I already knew the truth.

The person who tried to kill me tonight was my sister.

Worst of all, I had made a deal with a witch, offering up my wolf heart in exchange for sight, only to witness Rowan and Evelyn’s betrayal.

The Jilted Wife Is A Secret Heiress Novel Cover

The Wellington beef sat cold on the mahogany table, a graying monument to three years of wasted devotion. It was my birthday and our anniversary, but my husband, Hamilton McKee, didn't even look at the gift I’d spent months knitting. "Our marriage is a transaction," he said, his voice cutting like a scalpel. "Stop trying to make it a romance novel. I just need you to stop existing in my space for five minutes." Then his phone buzzed with a call from Cuba, the ex-girlfriend he never truly left. His cold mask shattered into frantic concern, a look he had never once given me. "I'm coming," he whispered to her, sprinting for the door without a backward glance at the wife he was leaving behind. I chased him into the freezing Boston night, only to be swarmed by predatory paparazzi. As Hamilton’s Maybach roared away, a heavy camera bag slammed into my shoulder. I slipped on the black ice, my skull hitting a granite gate pillar with a sickening crack. Warm blood trickled down my neck, and as the world tilted, the fog in my brain finally cleared. I wasn't the penniless orphan from Southie he thought I was. Images of sterile operating rooms, complex sutures, and a billion-dollar inheritance flooded back—along with the memory of the car wreck three years ago where I was the one who pulled Hamilton from the flames, not Cuba. How could I have spent three years begging for scraps of affection from a man who didn't even recognize his own savior? Why did I let a fraud steal my life while I played the role of a submissive shadow? When I woke up in the hospital, the trembling girl was gone. I ripped the IV from my arm and stared at the man who had come back only to demand I stay out of his way. I didn't cry. I didn't beg. I simply handed him a piece of paper with one word written in the sharp, confident script of a woman who owned half the city: DIVORCE. "Sign it, Hamilton," I said, my voice like ice. "Because by tomorrow, I’m not just leaving you—I’m taking the McKee empire with me."
