My Mate Rejected Me and Crowned His Mistress Luna

The Silverclaw Annual Moonlight Gala was supposed to be a night of celebration. Instead, I sat alone at the head table, my swollen fingers clutching a glass of water as my pregnant belly made it impossible to sit comfortably in the ornate chair. The crystal chandeliers cast dancing shadows across the room, illuminating the faces of pack members who couldn't quite hide their smirks as they glanced my way. My mate, Alpha Ethan Marshall, hadn't spoken more than ten words to me all evening. He'd spent the last hour twirling Piper Reed across the dance floor, their bodies pressed closer than necessary for a simple waltz. His hands lingered on her waist, his lips occasionally brushing her ear as he whispered something that made her laugh. "Did you see that?" a female Delta whispered to her companion at the table beside me. "Alpha Ethan hasn't left Piper's side all night." "Can you blame him?" her friend replied with a snicker. "Luna Aria looks like she's about to pop. Who would want to dance with that?" I focused on breathing evenly, trying to ignore their words.

"Alpha Ethan hasn't left Piper's side all night."

"Can you blame him?" her friend replied with a snicker. "Luna Aria looks like she's about to pop. Who would want to dance with that?"

I focused on breathing evenly, trying to ignore their words. My wolf, usually a comforting presence, had grown increasingly restless over the past few months. Tonight, she paced anxiously within me, sensing my distress.

"Ladies and gentlemen!" Ethan's voice boomed through the microphone, silencing the room. He stood in the center of the dance floor, one arm still wrapped possessively around Piper's waist. His eyes were glassy from too much whiskey, his tie loosened. "I have an announcement."

My heart stuttered. Was this it? Was he finally going to acknowledge our baby, our family?

"I've been thinking," he continued, swaying slightly, "that being Alpha comes with certain... responsibilities." His gaze swept across the room before landing on me with cold detachment. "Including a mate bond that's grown a bit heavy lately."

The room fell silent for a beat before erupting in nervous laughter.

"So!" Ethan raised his glass. "I'm thinking we should have a little auction tonight. Who wants to bid on relieving me of my mate bond? Starting price... ten thousand dollars!"

More laughter, louder this time. Someone whistled. I sat frozen, my glass halfway to my lips, as tears burned behind my eyes.

"Oh, Ethan, you're so funny!" Piper's voice cut through the noise as she playfully slapped his chest. She turned to face the crowd, her Beta female confidence radiating as she moved toward our table.

"I don't think you'll need to auction anything," she announced loudly enough for everyone to hear. "I've been taking good care of our Alpha's... needs."

She approached me, deliberately inhaling deeply as she came closer. The scent of Ethan's musk and sandalwood rolled off her in waves.

"Didn't you notice, Luna?" Piper's voice dripped with false sweetness as she leaned in. "I've been scent-marking him all day. He was so stressed during the patrol run this morning."

My stomach lurched as she tilted her head, exposing a fresh bruise on her neck that looked suspiciously like a hickey.

"He needed relief," she continued, loud enough for nearby tables to hear. "And I was happy to provide it."

Ethan appeared behind her, wrapping an arm around her waist. Their scents mingled in the air between us, a deliberate display of intimacy.

"Aria," he said flatly, "don't make a scene."

Something inside me snapped. My wolf howled in anguish, clawing at my insides.

"Make a scene?" My voice shook. "You're the one making a scene."

I stood up, my chair scraping loudly against the floor. The room fell silent again, all eyes on us.

"You want to auction our mate bond?" I whispered, tears streaming down my face. "In front of our pack? In front of our son?"

Before I could stop myself, I grabbed the edge of the heavy banquet table and flipped it over. Crystal glasses shattered, plates crashed to the floor, and food splattered across the polished wood.

The music screeched to a halt.

Ethan's eyes flashed red. "SUBMIT!"

The Alpha command hit me like a physical blow. My knees buckled instantly, my pregnant belly hitting the floor first as I crashed down among the broken glass and spilled wine.

"Stay there," he growled, his Alpha tone pressing me down harder. "You've embarrassed yourself enough for one night."

He turned to the stunned crowd, straightening his jacket. "Please forgive my Luna. Pregnancy hormones can make she-wolves quite unstable."

Piper stepped forward, exposing her neck in mock submission. "Perhaps she needs to learn her place, Alpha."

I lay there, glass cutting into my palms, as Ethan's command held me immobile. Through tears, I watched him offer Piper his hand, helping her up with a tenderness he'd never shown me.

"Let's move to the other room," he announced. "This mess needs cleaning up anyway."

As they walked away, leaving me pinned among the wreckage of the feast, I felt something inside me begin to break. Not just my heart—something deeper. My wolf howled one last time before falling silent, retreating to a place where even I couldn't reach her.

I woke up with that familiar churning in my stomach, the third morning in a row. My inner wolf, Lily, stirred restlessly as I bolted to the bathroom, barely making it before emptying what little remained in my stomach from last night's dinner. '*This has to be it*,' I thought, pressing my palm against my still-flat abdomen. After three years as Ryan's Luna, the Moon Goddess had finally blessed us. I splashed cold water on my face and brushed my teeth, studying my reflection. My skin glowed despite the nausea, and my wolf seemed unusually protective, urging me to rest more, eat better. All the signs were there. "We need to be sure before we tell him," I whispered to Lily, who hummed in agreement. I padded back to our bedroom, noticing Ryan had left his laptop open on his desk. He'd rushed out before dawn for an emergency meeting with neighboring packs—at least that's what he'd said.

I smoothed down the front of my traditional Luna ceremonial dress, the silver embroidery catching the light as I moved. Three years. Three perfect years with my mate, and tonight I wanted everything to be perfect. "Do you think he'll like the surprise?" I asked my reflection, adjusting the moonstone pendant that had been my mother's. It was the last thing she'd given me before passing, and I wore it only on special occasions. My wolf, Aria, purred with satisfaction. *He'll love it. You've prepared his favorite meal.* I glanced at the dining room table, set with our finest china and candles. The roast was resting, vegetables steaming, and a bottle of aged red wine—Tyson's favorite—hidden in the car for the final touch. "He should be home any minute," I murmured, checking my phone.

The Plaza Hotel's bridal suite was bathed in soft morning light as I stood before the ornate mirror. My reflection stared back at me—eyes bright with anticipation, cheeks flushed with excitement. Today was supposed to be the beginning of forever. "You look beautiful," my makeup artist had whispered just moments ago. "Caspian won't know what hit him." I smiled, touching the delicate lace of my custom Vera Wang gown. Ten years of love, of building a life together, all culminating in this perfect day. My fingers trembled slightly as I adjusted my veil. "I'm just nervous," I whispered to my reflection, trying to calm the flutter in my stomach. The lights above me flickered once, twice. I frowned, glancing upward.
