My Mate Forced Me to Kneel Before His Luna Novel Cover

My Mate Forced Me to Kneel Before His Luna

Marlowe walks into the Alpha suite at three minutes past nine, expecting to be marked. Instead, she finds Khloe Perkins wearing her ceremonial gown and Adam half-dressed, unbothered—as if betrayal had always been the plan. He says her name like she interrupted a meeting, not a life. Humiliated and forced to kneel before another woman's claim, Marlowe faces a brutal choice: surrender to the mate who chose her ruin, or rise from the ashes of a shattered bond and make them all regret the night they broke her.

Chapter 5

The warrior who came for me didn't introduce himself. He didn't need to. He stood in the anteroom doorway with his shoulders squared and his chin tipped down, the exact posture pack warriors use when they're not asking you to come somewhere — they're informing you that you're already going.

"Alpha's ready for you."

Not *Marlowe*. Not *Ms. Carlson*. Just the flat fact of it, like I was cargo that had finally arrived at its destination.

I slung my satchel over my shoulder and followed him without a word. There was no point making him drag me. I'd walked through that archway a thousand times over five years, usually at a run, usually with blood on my hands that wasn't mine. This time my hands were empty and steady, and that steadiness felt like the only thing I still owned.

The hall opened up in front of me the way it always did — high beams, old stone, the smell of pine smoke and too many bodies pressed too close together. Except tonight the bodies weren't gathered for a banquet or a challenge ceremony. They were gathered for me.

I scanned the room the way I used to scan a triage line, cataloguing threats and priorities in the space of a breath. The pack, packed shoulder to shoulder along the walls. The raised platform at the far end. Khloe, in the Luna's chair, wearing a green dress I recognized immediately because I'd bought the fabric myself, three years ago, and never once worn it. Adam standing beside her, feet planted, aura deployed at full pressure.

I felt it hit me the second I crossed the threshold — that heavy, suffocating weight of an Alpha tone thrown wide across a room, meant to flatten everyone under it into the same shape of obedience. I saw shoulders bow along the walls. I saw two Deltas I'd stitched back together after a border raid drop their eyes to the floor.

Khloe's smirk was already sitting on her face like she'd practiced it in a mirror.

Adam's eyes found mine, and what I saw there wasn't love, wasn't even real anger. It was triumph. The particular contempt of a man who thinks the story is already finished and he's the one who gets to write the last line.

"Pack of Ironvale," Adam said, his voice pitched to carry, resonant with the tone he'd layered under it, "Marlowe Carlson has returned to us tonight — voluntarily — to acknowledge the hierarchy she forgot when she left." A pause, timed for effect. "Her submission is the condition of the child's treatment. She understands that now."

A murmur went through the room, low and uneasy. Nobody looked at Khloe. Everybody looked at me.

Then Adam's voice dropped into something else entirely — the register that isn't sound so much as pressure, the tone I'd only ever felt twice before in my life and never once aimed at me with this much force.

"Kneel," he said. "Before your Luna. Both knees."

It hit my body like a hook set behind my sternum, yanking downward. My knees buckled — not a metaphor, an actual, physical betrayal, tendons and muscle answering a command my mind had never agreed to. I felt the floor rushing up.

I caught myself a half-second before I went all the way down, some last scrap of will jamming itself between the command and my body like a wedge in a closing door. My knees hovered an inch off the stone. My hands found nothing to hold. I held anyway.

I looked at Adam. Not at Khloe. At him.

"The antidote first," I said. My voice came out flat, level, the same voice I used for reading vitals off a chart. "In my hands. Then I kneel."

The room went silent in a way that felt like the air itself had stopped moving. I watched the realization cross several faces at once — that I was negotiating. That a woman being crushed under an Alpha tone strong enough to buckle her knees was still, somehow, running terms.

Adam's jaw tightened. For one long moment he just looked at me, and I watched him recalculate — the same look he used to get over a supply ledger that didn't balance. He hadn't planned for this. He'd planned for tears, or begging, or silent collapse. He hadn't planned for a woman on the edge of her knees still negotiating like she had leverage.

Because I did. And we both knew it.

He turned his head a fraction toward his Beta and gave a short nod, more irritation than command.

The Beta disappeared through the side door and came back a moment later carrying a small glass vial, amber liquid catching the torchlight. He crossed the platform and set it down on the floor in front of Khloe's chair — not in my hands, not yet, but close enough that I could see the seal was intact. Close enough that I could read the label in Rosalind's careful handwriting.

It was real.

It was enough.

I let my knees finish the drop.

The stone was cold through the fabric of my scrubs. I heard the room exhale, a hundred small breaths released at once, and somewhere above me Khloe's smirk widened into something closer to a smile.
