My Infertile Husband's Betrayal
Chapter 3
"Here. These are our resignation letters," I said.
The HR director, Ms. Lewitt, suddenly stood up. Her face was pale as she looked at me.
“Ms. Wesley, how could you resign? And Wayne, you’re all key members of the company! Your department is responsible for 80% of the company’s revenue!
“I don’t have the authority to approve your resignations. I’ll have to ask Mr. Forger first.”
Ms. Lewitt shakily pulled out her phone, and I didn’t stop her.
“Don't bother calling him.” The door to the CEO's office suddenly opened. Claire Yates appeared with a protruding belly.
She waved her phone victoriously.
“Harry said the Sales Department is entirely under my control, including decisions about whether you stay or leave. Do you all want to resign? Fine. But first, hand over all the bonuses the company has given you over the years. I’ll approve your resignation then.”
I clenched my fists tightly.
'Harry, how could you let her humiliate us like this?' I thought.
Those bonuses had been earned through countless nights of overtime!
“Ms. Yates.” I glared at her coldly. “The bonuses were legally earned. You have no right to demand we pay it all back.”
“I don’t care. Either return the money, or continue working here!” She smugly rubbed her belly.
“Harry said I’m in charge now. You'd better listen to me, or I’ll block your resignations entirely.”
I held back, pulled out my phone, and dialed Harry's number.
It took a long time before he answered.
"What is it now?" He asked impatiently.
Before I could speak, Claire snatched the phone and immediately pretended to sob.
“Harry! Ms. Wesley says she wants to resign, and she won’t listen to me! She’s trying to intimidate me!
“I know she’s jealous I’m pregnant with your baby, but she can’t bully me like this. I’m so scared!”
“Hand her the phone!” Harry snapped loudly.
Claire smugly handed the phone back to me.
Her exaggerated whining made my stomach turn.
I took the phone. To avoid any further complications, I began to explain.
“Harry, I don’t care about you and her. I only want to resolve the team’s resig–”
“Anna!” Harry cut me off angrily .“Can't you just tolerate Claire and the baby she’s carrying? You know this might be the only child I’ll ever have. Are you doing this on purpose?"
I pursed my lips.
“I have no interest in making things hard for your lover. Listen carefully. I'm not the only one resigning. The entire team–"
Claire suddenly moved closer and began whining.
“Harry, forget it. Stop being mad at Ms. Wesley. I want some seafood. Make her buy some. Consider it punishment for what she did."
“Did you hear that?” Harry asked coldly. “My fiancée wants seafood. Go get some now.”
The restaurant was too far. A round-trip would take at least four hours.
I refused directly.
Harry snorted. “Fine. If you won’t do it, I’ll make sure your entire team goes down.
"Think hard about what you choose to do next.”
With that, he hung up.
My throat burned, and my chest felt heavy, yet somehow, I was numb through it all.
I knew Harry wasn’t simply spoiling Claire. More importantly, it was about the baby she was carrying.
Harry and I once had a child, too.
Back then, the company was at a critical stage. I had worked late into the night every day. One day, I suddenly collapsed in the conference room and was sent to the hospital. That's when I found out I was eight weeks pregnant.
