My Husband Tried to Commit Me for His Mistress Chapter 1

Three weeks after delivering my son, I sat in the rocking chair by the nursery window, nursing him while the Manhattan skyline glittered beyond the glass. The late-night quiet should have been soothing, but something had been nagging at me for days—a sense of wrongness I couldn't quite name. My body was still changing, hormones shifting, but my mind was sharpening again after the fog of early postpartum.

I pulled up the smart lock app on my phone while my son slept against my chest. Pierce had insisted on the system—'For your safety,' he'd said, though I'd been the one to research the specifications. The activity log scrolled past: the night nurse at 8 PM, the housekeeper at 10 AM, Pierce at 7:30 PM. And then, at 2:47 AM, an unregistered fingerprint entry.

I frowned, scrolling back. The timestamp was from two nights ago, when Pierce had texted that he was working late at the office. 'Big merger,' he'd written. 'Don't wait up.'

My son stirred, and I adjusted him, my free hand still scrolling. The entry showed no name, just a fingerprint ID that didn't match any in our system. I cross-referenced it against our staff registry—nothing. The night nurse, the housekeeper, our regular staff—none of their prints matched this ghost entry.

The next morning, I was making coffee when the night nurse, Maria, came in to check on us. 'How did you sleep?' she asked, her voice soft with professional concern.

'Well enough,' I said, watching her carefully. 'Though I'm still getting used to the smart lock system. Did you have any trouble with it when you started?'

She laughed, a warm sound. 'Oh, I never got added to the system, Mrs. White. Your husband said it wasn't necessary since I'm only here at night when you're awake anyway. I just use the service entrance code.' Her expression was open, honest.

I kept my face neutral, though something cold settled in my chest. 'That's strange. I could have sworn he added you.'

'No, ma'am. But it's no trouble—the code works just fine.'

After she left, I pulled up the full entry history. There they were—three additional unregistered access events I hadn't seen before, all between 2 and 3 AM, all on nights Pierce claimed to be working late.

That afternoon, I was reviewing corporate wellness benefits—a routine task I'd resumed now that I was recovering—when I noticed something. Pierce had booked a luxury postnatal recovery suite at the Manhattan Wellness Center. The same exclusive facility where I'd spent my own postpartum recovery. The suite was identical to mine: private chef, lactation consultant, daily massages, the works.

But the name on the reservation wasn't mine. It was Naya Kelley—Pierce's executive assistant.

My hands went still on the keyboard. The reservation had been made three days after I gave birth, charged to a discretionary company account that Pierce managed. The suite was scheduled to begin next week.

I needed to see it. That evening, I went to Pierce's home office to retrieve a document he'd mentioned—something about the baby's trust fund. The office was immaculate, as always. Pierce was meticulous about his space.

I found the document easily enough, but as I turned to leave, my eye caught something in his desk drawer—a flash of elegant packaging. I opened it slightly. There, nestled among his pens and papers, was a bottle of the expensive French stretch mark oil I'd first encountered at the wellness center. The specific product—a niche European brand sold only at the center's boutique—was too precise to be coincidental.

I photographed it quickly, then set it back exactly as I'd found it. My heart was pounding, but my face remained calm as I walked out.

That night, after Pierce was asleep, I called Estelle. She answered on the first ring. 'What's wrong?' she asked immediately—she always knew.

I told her everything: the fingerprint, the wellness suite, the stretch mark oil. The silence on the other end stretched for three full seconds—the longest I'd ever heard Estelle be quiet.

'Tell me what you need me to do,' she finally said, her voice steady.

I looked at my sleeping son, at the life we were building, at the empire I'd inherited and expanded. 'Not yet,' I said. 'I need more.'

'Then I'll wait,' Estelle replied, and I knew she would.
