My Billion-Dollar Baby
Chapter 2
Seeing that I was not responding, Reuben sighed and sent me an address. "Meet me here tomorrow."
After hanging up, I checked the address and saw it led to Griffin Corporation.
I knew it. Just from Reuben's last name, I could tell he was destined to be the classic CEO-type. Curious, I did a quick search online.
What I found made me grin from ear to ear before drifting off to sleep.
The next day, as soon as I arrived at the entrance of Griffin Corporation and messaged Reuben, I saw her—the real heiress, Melanie Jordan.
What rotten luck!
I could not forget how, when I first transmigrated, she had arrogantly kicked me out of the family.
Plus, that was not all. My memories were filled with instances of her framing me, exploiting the Jordan family's guilt to bully me repeatedly.
Years ago, it was the Jordans' negligence that led to the mix-up of children. But somehow, I was the one who ended up being blamed for everything.
Melanie resented me for taking her place and making her suffer. The Jordans blamed me for stealing their biological daughter's rightful life of luxury and turned a blind eye to all the times she targeted me.
It was as if pinning the responsibility on me absolved them of all guilt and made them a perfect, loving family.
When Melanie spotted me, she froze in place with a haughty expression.
"Well, look who it is. Don't you know your shabby self doesn't belong here? Griffin Corporation isn't a place you can just waltz into."
I took a deep breath, ready to fire back, but someone else beat me to it. "If she can't be here, who can? You?"
I turned to see Reuben in a sharp black suit, walking toward us. "I waited for you upstairs for so long, and you're still down here wasting time?"
Before I could reply, Melanie hurried to speak first, her face full of eagerness, "Mr. Griffin, I was just about to head up. You didn't need to come down for me!"
Reuben's indifferent tone shattered her fantasy in an instant. "Who are you? I wasn't talking to you."
Her stunned expression made me burst out laughing.
Reuben's sharp tongue spared no one. In fact, he had nearly torn me apart with it before.
"What are you laughing at? Hurry up and follow me upstairs."
I quickly followed him, leaving Melanie, whose face was filled with resentment, behind.
In the office, the coffee the secretary brought me was replaced with plain water by Reuben. His gaze kept drifting toward my stomach.
"Say something. What, cat got your tongue? Weren't you quite the chatterbox before?"
I shrank into myself, trying to minimize my presence. "What do you plan to do?"
He scoffed. "What do you mean, what do I plan to do? We don't even know if it's my child yet. What am I supposed to do?"
I nervously rubbed my fingers together, letting out an awkward laugh. "Well then, maybe you could provide some child support in advance?"
He looked at me in disbelief and tapped on his phone a few times. "Eliza, you're as greedy and shameless as ever. Do you think I'd miss this pocket change? I just transferred it to you."
His words stung, but really, who would turn down money? Seeing all those zeros on my phone, I could not stop grinning.
Jackpot. Absolute jackpot!
When I remembered there were two more potential fathers, my excitement skyrocketed.
Reuben watched my overly satisfied expression and shook his head, unable to hide his disdain.
"Who's next on your list?"
I wiped the smile off my face, studying his expression carefully before timidly muttering, "Devon Bailey."
He raised an eyebrow, clearly surprised. "Well, it just so happens I'm heading to Bailey Corporation today. Want to tag along?"
I immediately waved my hands in refusal. The thought of both of them in one room was too beautiful for me to bear.
He chuckled. "Don't be shy. I'm being generous."
I tried to resist, but he effortlessly dragged me along, shielding my belly as he practically carried me into the car.
Feeling utterly defeated, I was hauled into Devon's office by Reuben.
When Devon saw us walk in together, his expression was one of pure shock. He extended a hand toward Reuben. "Mr. Griffin, it seems our meeting will need to be rescheduled."
Reuben pulled me from behind him. "No need, Mr. Bailey. Today's discussion involves all three of us."
I sat on the couch, feeling their eyes on me. I nervously pulled out the pregnancy test results.
"Um, so… I'm pregnant…" My voice grew quieter with each word.
Reuben crossed his arms, clearly enjoying the show, while Devon stared at the results, flipping through the pages multiple times in disbelief. Finally, he adjusted his glasses and looked at me. "Is it mine?"
I stammered, unsure how to respond, but Reuben cut in with a mocking laugh.
"Mr. Bailey, don't get ahead of yourself. There's only a 33% chance it's yours."
Devon shot him a glance. "Who else is there?"
Reuben nodded at me. "Ask her that question."
Under the intense glares of the two men, I shivered and did not dare make a sound. If looks could kill, I was sure they would both have murdered me already.
The two exchanged a glance before Devon asked, "And who's the third?"
I looked down, twisting my fingers nervously. "A-Aden Larsen."
Reuben burst out laughing. "Eliza, I've got to say, your taste in men is impeccable."
I immediately straightened my back and beamed with pride. "Of course, it is! Who do you think I am? My eyes are sharp and my preferences are refined!"
