My Alpha Rejected Me for His Delicate Mistress Chapter 1

The scent hit me first—cedar and rain, unmistakable and overwhelming. My wolf stirred within me, suddenly alert and yearning. After years of preparation, of molding myself into the perfect Luna, this was it—the moment I'd been born for.

I smoothed my hands over the pristine white ceremonial robes one last time, feeling the delicate embroidery beneath my fingertips. The Alpha suite was bathed in moonlight streaming through the tall windows, casting silver patterns across the polished wooden floor.

"It's time," I whispered to my reflection in the mirror, straightening my shoulders. My wolf, Victoria, purred in agreement.

*We are ready. We have always been ready.*

The walk to the ceremonial dais felt like floating. Hundreds of pack members lined the path, their faces blurring as I passed. My father stood among them, his eyes shining with pride. The former Beta had raised me for this moment, just as I had raised myself for it.

Then I saw him—Liam Brooks, Alpha of the Silverclaw Pack. My destined mate. He stood tall and commanding on the raised platform, his dark hair gleaming in the moonlight. When our eyes met, something electric passed between us.

My wolf surged forward, nearly breaking through my control.

*That scent... it's him. It's really him.*

I'd known Liam my entire life, but I'd never smelled that scent before—the biological confirmation of our mate bond. It wrapped around me like a physical embrace, making my knees weak and my heart race.

"Victoria," he said, his voice deep and resonant as I approached the dais. "You look..."

I stepped forward, tilting my head to expose my neck—the traditional gesture of submission for the marking bite. This was it—the culmination of my life's work, the moment that would bind us together forever.

But instead of leaning in, Liam recoiled.

A strange expression crossed his face—something cold and detached that I'd never seen before. My wolf whined in confusion.

"Alpha?" I whispered, my heart suddenly racing with a different emotion—fear.

Liam straightened, his jaw tightening. Then, without warning, he activated his Alpha tone—a power reserved for emergencies and pack discipline.

"Silence!" The command rippled through the gathered crowd, forcing every wolf to their knees. Even the visiting dignitaries from neighboring packs couldn't resist the power of an Alpha command.

I remained standing, frozen in place by shock rather than resistance.

"I, Alpha Liam Brooks of the Silverclaw Pack," he began, his voice echoing across the suddenly silent clearing, "reject you, Victoria Greene, as my mate."

The words hit me like physical blows. Each syllable sent waves of pain through my body as the mate bond—so newly discovered—began to tear.

"You are too rigid, too cold," he continued, his voice devoid of emotion. "The pack needs a Luna who can nurture, who can be the mother to our future generations. You are... lacking in these qualities."

My wolf howled in agony inside me, clawing at my insides as the bond began to break. I couldn't breathe, couldn't think.

Then Liam turned to the crowd, his hand extending toward someone hidden among the spectators.

"Zoey," he called out. "Come forward."

A petite blonde emerged from the crowd, her eyes wide with feigned innocence. She approached the dais with hesitant steps, playing her part perfectly.

"I choose Zoey Ryan as my Luna," Liam announced, pulling her to his side. "She needs my protection, my strength. The pack will benefit from her gentle nature."

Zoey's lips curved into a smirk as she glanced at me over Liam's shoulder.

An hour later, I stood in the Alpha suite, my body still trembling with the aftermath of rejection. The physical pain was excruciating—like having my soul slowly torn apart.

I moved mechanically, pulling clothes from drawers and shoving them into a suitcase. Not to stay—never to stay—but to leave with whatever dignity I could salvage.

The door opened behind me. Liam's scent—once so intoxicating—now made me nauseous.

"Victoria," he said, his voice gentler now that the audience was gone. "We need to talk about your new role."

I turned to face him, surprised by the coldness in my own voice. "My new role?"

"The pack still needs you," he explained, as if bestowing a great favor. "You can serve as a Delta advisor. It's... a good position for someone of your capabilities."

A bitter laugh escaped my lips. "You think I'll stay? After what you did?"

I grabbed the ceremonial robes from where I'd laid them on the bed and threw them into the crackling fireplace. The delicate fabric caught immediately, flames consuming what should have been my future.

"You've doomed us all," I said quietly, watching the robes burn. Then I turned back to him, my voice steady despite the storm raging inside me. "I, Victoria Greene, formally resign from the Silverclaw Pack."

I reached for the chemical cleaner under the sink—industrial strength, meant for removing stubborn stains. With methodical precision, I began spraying every surface I'd touched, erasing my scent from the room.

"What are you doing?" Liam asked, his voice rising with alarm.

"Taking myself out of your life," I replied, not looking back as I scrubbed his scent from my skin. "Completely."

“Don’t stop,” she whispered. “She won’t come up.” I did. I stopped breathing. Thinking. Existing. The voice came from inside my bedroom—our bedroom. My sanctuary. I stood frozen in the hallway, dinner still warm downstairs, candles flickering in a room that no longer mattered. The scent of truffle butter still clung to my sleeves. Through the door—left carelessly ajar—I saw enough. A woman with auburn hair and wine-colored nails was curled into my husband's side, her lipstick smeared across his throat like a bruise. Her fingers skimmed down his back, possessive, practiced. Oliver moaned softly. A sound I hadn’t heard in months. I didn’t scream. I didn’t cry. I turned. Through the adjoining bathroom, I slipped into the walk-in closet, hiding behind the luxury he insisted I needed. Dresses lined in neat rows. Shoes in pyramids. A fortress of silk and leather and betrayal. I sat down, gripping the hem of my dress, listening. “I don’t know why you’re still stalling,” Lily said, her voice languid and confident. “She’s not stupid, Oliver. She’s suspicious. You said she keeps asking questions.” He sighed. “Let her ask. She won’t do anything. Not until it’s too late.” A beat. “She’s planning something tonight,” he added, almost amused. “Made some kind of fancy dinner. Probably filet again. It’s sweet, in a tragic way.” Lily giggled. “You think she’s figured out we’ve been using her?” “Scarlett sees what she wants to see. She’s desperate. That’s what makes it easy.” There was movement on the bed. Sheets shifting. “She still has no idea about the inheritance?” Lily murmured. “None,” he said. “Her father’s trust releases next month. Once the money hits the accounts, I’ll serve the papers. I’ve already started moving things offshore.” My throat closed. I bit the inside of my cheek so hard I tasted blood. So this was what I got from our five-year marriage.

The morning sun streamed through the tall windows of Crescent Academy's grand hall, casting golden light across the polished wooden floors. I sat in the front row, my heart swelling with pride as I watched Zander cross the stage. Three years of sacrifice, late nights, and endless support had led to this moment. "Ladies and gentlemen," the headmaster announced, his voice echoing through the hall, "our valedictorian, Zander Campbell, has demonstrated extraordinary leadership skills and tactical brilliance throughout his time at Crescent Academy." Zander stepped forward, his tall frame commanding attention. His dark hair was perfectly styled, and his ceremonial Alpha robes fit him like they were made specifically for him—which, considering how much I'd invested in his education, they practically were. "Today marks not just an ending, but a beginning," Zander's voice carried confidently across the hall. "A beginning where we will build stronger packs, forge unbreakable alliances, and lead with both strength and wisdom." My fingers traced the intricate patterns on my dress as I listened. Those words—they were from the strategic frameworks I'd developed and shared with him during late-night study sessions. The pride in my chest expanded. This was our victory, our future.
