Not the warm pulse of the mate bond. Something sharper. Damien stood three feet away, his hand resting on Allie's lower back, and the scent rolling off him was wrong. Vanilla and something floral I didn't recognize, layered so thick over his usual cedar that my wolf stirred for the first time in weeks, a low warning growl vibrating through my chest.

Damien turned to face me. His expression was calm. Rehearsed.

I reached the bottom and collapsed.

The stone floor was cold. I curled onto my side, my hand pressed to my stomach, and felt the warmth spreading beneath my gown. Not the bond wound. Lower. Deeper.

My wolf went silent.

I lay there as the blood pooled beneath me, as the drums pounded overhead, as the pack celebrated the Alpha who had just severed a bond he never understood.
