The Northern Territories' crisp air carried the scent of pine and wild herbs as I stood among the other pack representatives, watching Adonis command the room with his Alpha presence. My mate's broad shoulders and confident stance made my heart swell with pride. Seven years together, and still my wolf purred whenever he entered a room. "Sarah, isn't it wonderful to see all these packs united?" Ryan, my childhood friend and mid-ranking warrior, whispered beside me. I nodded, smiling politely at the diplomatic response expected of a Luna. "Yes, these alliances will strengthen all our territories." My gaze returned to Adonis, who was deep in discussion with the Alpha of the Silver Moon Pack. I didn't notice the moment everything changed—not until Adonis suddenly stiffened, his head turning sharply toward the entrance. She entered like a whisper of smoke—tall and willowy with copper hair that caught the light streaming through the high windows. Something about her movements seemed to draw every eye in the room without effort. "The Moon Goddess blesses this gathering," she announced, her voice carrying an unusual resonance that seemed to vibrate through my chest.

Luna Rejects Her Alpha Chapter 1

The Northern Territories' crisp air carried the scent of pine and wild herbs as I stood among the other pack representatives, watching Adonis command the room with his Alpha presence. My mate's broad shoulders and confident stance made my heart swell with pride. Seven years together, and still my wolf purred whenever he entered a room.

"Sarah, isn't it wonderful to see all these packs united?" Ryan, my childhood friend and mid-ranking warrior, whispered beside me.

I nodded, smiling politely at the diplomatic response expected of a Luna. "Yes, these alliances will strengthen all our territories."

My gaze returned to Adonis, who was deep in discussion with the Alpha of the Silver Moon Pack.

I watched as Adonis's expression transformed—confusion melting into fascination. The change was so subtle that only someone who knew him as intimately as I did would notice.

"Who is she?" I murmured to Ryan.

His brow furrowed. "That's Eden Knight. Word is she's some kind of gifted healer from the remote mountain packs."

I tried to dismiss the sudden unease in my chest as mere jealousy. After all, Adonis and I were fated mates—blessed by the Moon Goddess herself.

---

Three days later, our home felt different the moment Adonis walked through the door.

"You're back," I said softly, rising from where I'd been arranging wildflowers in a vase. "How was the rest of the meeting?"

His eyes didn't quite meet mine. "Productive. Very productive."

Something in his scent had changed—or perhaps it was his demeanor. My wolf stirred uneasily within me, her hackles rising for no apparent reason.

"I've learned so much about true spiritual leadership," he continued, pacing the room with restless energy. "Eden Knight—she's extraordinary, Sarah. The things she knows about pack dynamics..."

"The healer?" I asked, trying to keep my voice steady.

"She's so much more than that." His voice took on an almost reverent tone. "She has visions, Sarah. The Moon Goddess speaks through her."

I set down the wildflowers, my fingers suddenly clumsy. "Adonis, that's a serious claim."

"She knew things about our pack—about me—that no one could possibly know." He ran his hands through his dark hair, a gesture I'd come to recognize when he was conflicted. "She says our pack has been operating with spiritual blinders on."

My wolf whined softly, sensing danger I couldn't yet identify. "What does that mean?"

"It means we've been limiting ourselves." His eyes suddenly focused on me with an intensity that made me step back. "Our traditions—some of them may be holding us back."

I swallowed hard, thinking of the sanctuary candles I'd lit for seven years—the sacred ritual that had drained my own strength to protect him. "Which traditions?"

He waved his hand dismissively. "We'll talk about it later. I need to think."

---

A week passed in a haze of tension and distance. Then the announcement came—Eden Knight was coming to the Shadowpine Pack to provide spiritual healing services.

"She'll be staying in the guest cabin," Adonis informed me, not asking permission. "Her insights will benefit everyone."

The pack gathered to welcome her. I stood beside Adonis, the perfect Luna—smiling, gracious, while my wolf clawed at my insides.

"Thank you for your hospitality," Eden said, her copper hair gleaming in the afternoon light. Her eyes swept over me with calculated interest. "And you must be Sarah. The Luna."

"Yes," I replied simply.

She stepped closer, her scent oddly metallic beneath floral notes. "Your aura is... interesting. Somewhat diminished."

Murmurs rippled through the gathered pack members. My cheeks burned as I felt their gazes shift to me.

"I've been having visions about this pack," Eden announced to the crowd. "The Moon Goddess has shown me where the imbalances lie."

Adonis nodded eagerly. "Tell them what you told me."

"The pack suffers from spiritual misalignment," she declared, her voice carrying easily across the clearing. "Leadership that doesn't fully embrace the Moon Goddess's will weakens the entire pack structure."

Her eyes met mine again, something predatory flashing beneath her sympathetic expression. "I believe recent challenges stem from this imbalance."

Pack members exchanged glances—some curious, others concerned. I felt them drawing away from me like water receding from shore.

My wolf howled in warning as Eden smiled beneficently at the pack that was already beginning to orbit around her like moths to flame.

"What challenges?" I asked quietly.

"Oh, Sarah," she replied, her voice dripping with false sympathy. "Don't you feel it? The weakness at the heart of your pack?"

As the crowd dispersed, whispering excitedly about Eden's insights, I caught Ryan watching me with concern. But even he wouldn't meet my eyes directly anymore.

My fingers found the moonstone pendant at my throat—my mother's last gift. Something was coming. Something that would change everything.
