Chapter 2

The next day, Damien came to see me early, saying he wanted to take me outside for some fresh air.

Having not seen the outside world for five years, I had no reason to refuse him, so I let him push my wheelchair to the hospital's backyard.

The moment I saw daylight again, I felt truly alive, as if the once gray and white world suddenly burst into color.

But Damien thought I couldn't see, and sighed with regret:

"It's a shame, Callie, that your eyes can't see. Otherwise you'd be able to see me."

I smirked self-mockingly, my eyes full of sorrow.

He didn't know that not only could my eyes see, but they had also seen how many times he had exerted himself on Meadow.

Just then, Meadow appeared out of nowhere, blocking our path.

She was holding a thermos, and said respectfully:

"Mr. Grey, I've brought some chicken soup for Miss Frost."

Her tone was reverent, but her eyes looked at Damien seductively.

After speaking, she walked up to Damien and kissed him on the lips right in front of me.

Damien didn't push her away. Instead, he wrapped his arm around her waist, pulling her close, and held her head to deepen the kiss. This scene pierced my eyes deeply, reminding me of when Damien pursued me, kneeling in the rainy night and swearing to the heavens that he would never betray me in this lifetime. Perhaps he truly loved me then, and it's equally true that he doesn't love me as much now.

But none of that matters anymore, because I'll soon be leaving Damien, allowing him to be with Meadow forever and ever.

Damien and Meadow were so engrossed in their kiss that Meadow's hand slipped, causing the thermos to clatter to the floor. Scalding soup splashed everywhere, and before I could dodge, it splattered across my calf, instantly turning red and blistering.

Hearing the commotion, Damien immediately pushed Meadow away and rushed over anxiously to check on my injury.

"Callie, your leg... Let me take you to get it treated."

"I'm so sorry, Mr. Grey. It's all because I'm so clumsy, causing Miss Frost to get hurt. You should hit me, it's all my fault, I deserve to die..."

Meadow lowered her head apologetically, but I clearly caught the triumphant smirk in her eyes.

Damien didn't dare delay, quickly taking me back to the hospital room and calling for a professional doctor to examine my leg. Only after the doctor had applied medicine did his anxious heart finally settle. But he was still worried I might scar, insisting the doctor prescribe me some scar removal cream.

"Callie, you have a tendency to scar easily. Even a small wound takes you several months to heal completely. I think it's safer if I go get you some medication. Wait here for me, I'll be right back."

So he remembered I was prone to scarring. Back then, when I saved him from that car accident, my right leg was left with a huge scar. Five years have passed and it still hasn't completely faded, looking ghastly and terrifying.

But compared to the scar Damien personally left on my heart, this physical scar was practically nothing.

Just then, the hospital room door opened and Meadow strutted in on her high heels, her eyes brimming with contempt.

"Callie, you can actually see, can't you? That time when Damien and I were fooling around by your bedside, and just now when we were kissing in the backyard, you saw it all, didn't you?"

I was a bit surprised. I hadn't expected Meadow to figure out I was faking blindness, while Damien, who had lived with me for so long, hadn't noticed.Seeing my silence, Meadow's contempt intensified in her eyes as she sneered:

"Do you know how Damien has pampered me during these years you've been in a coma? We've slept together six hundred and fifty times, two-thirds of which were right here in your hospital room. Several times when you were close to waking up, he'd get really excited and wear me out until I passed out. He even got me pregnant with his child."

As she spoke, she gently caressed her belly, her voice dripping with disgust:

"Callie, don't say I didn't warn you. Damien doesn't love you anymore. If you don't want to humiliate yourself, just leave him on your own. Otherwise..."

She didn't get to finish her sentence because Damien returned.

He walked in carrying a large bag of medicine, immediately starting to apply ointment to my scars without so much as a glance at Meadow, as if she were invisible.

Watching him focus on me with his whole heart and soul, I couldn't muster the same emotion I once felt. Instead, I only felt a wave of nausea.

Oh, Damien, you shouldn't have deceived me, betraying me while I was unconscious.
