Love Has Faded, Feelings Will Not Return Chapter 1

To save Damien, I became a vegetable in a car accident.

Until five years later that I finally regained consciousness.

But when I opened my eyes, I saw Damian making passionate love with his secretary beside my bed.

"Be gentle, Mr. Gray. I'm pregnant and can't bear too much stimulation."

Damian's face suddenly turned cold. He grabbed the woman's neck and scolded loudly:

"Do you think you are qualified to have my child? Get rid of it immediately. Carly is the only person in the world who can give birth to a child for me."

The secretary's eyes were tightly grasped by him, and she sobbed with a red face.

"But she is a vegetable and will never wake up in this life."

"So what? I only want her. Even if she never wakes up, I won't marry anyone else!"

What a ridiculous love.

He said he loved me, but he slept with another woman in front of me, thinking that I wouldn't find out!

The next day, I turned around and married Damian's mortal enemy.

Love as much as you want, I won't accompany you.

Damien and his secretary Meadow finally stopped their frenzy after a full three hours, both panting heavily as they collapsed onto the couch.

The sounds they made while entangled pierced my heart like a thousand tiny needles, each one bringing a sharp, intricate pain.

I stared numbly at the ceiling, hot tears sliding from the corners of my eyes into my collar.

I never imagined that the man I had sacrificed my life to protect five years ago would do something like this in my hospital room.

"Mr. Grey, look! Is Callie awake?"

Meadow's gaze fell on my tightly clenched fist, and she tugged at Damien's hand in surprise.

Damien's face changed instantly, and he nervously looked in my direction. When his eyes caught the tears at the corner of mine, he rushed over excitedly.

"Callie?! Callie, you're awake! You're finally awake!"

But in the next second, he realized his disheveled state, his body covered in Meadow's lipstick marks and scratch marks. Terrified, he quickly grabbed a nearby white sheet to cover himself, frantically trying to explain:

"Callie, it's not what you think, I can explain..."

"Damien, is that you? Is that Damien's voice?"Without waiting for him to finish, I interrupted him and pretended to be blind, groping around aimlessly.

I clearly saw Damien, who had been so nervous he could barely breathe, relax the moment he realized I was blind. He then came forward, gently grasping my flailing hand, and said softly:

"Callie, it's me, your Damien. I'm so happy you're awake. I thought I'd never get to talk to you again."

The moment I woke up, he was the first person I thought of. I fantasized about how excited he'd be to see me awake, eagerly anticipating him fulfilling the promise he made before I fell into a coma – he said he would marry me.

Until the moment I saw him pressing Meadow against my side, I still thought I was hallucinating.

My heart felt like it was being violently ripped apart, causing an excruciating pain.

The reason I pretended to be blind was simply to see how far Damien would take his act.

Amidst his excitement, Damien didn't forget to confirm whether I was truly blind. He waved his hand in front of my face and asked:

"Callie, can you really not see me?"

Suppressing the emotions in my heart, I shook my head.Damien's anxious heart finally settled as he witnessed the scene. He then reached into his coat pocket and pulled out a small box. Upon opening it, a sparkling diamond ring was revealed inside.

I immediately recognized it as the engagement ring he had personally designed for me five years ago. Ironically, the day of the car accident was meant to be the day he proposed.

He took out the ring and gazed at me with eyes full of love, saying:

"Callie, five years ago I wasn't able to propose because of the accident. Now that you're awake, I want to ask you again. Callie, I love you. Will you marry me?"

His tone was so sincere, his eyes brimming with such affection that it seemed to overflow. He appeared to genuinely want to grow old with me and spend our lives together.

But who would have thought that just moments ago, this same man was in the throes of passion with another woman?

Just thinking about that scene made me feel sick to my stomach.

Seeing that I didn't respond, Damien took my silence as acceptance. He grabbed my hand, ready to slip the ring onto my finger.

Meadow's face darkened at the sight. Displeased, she threw something in our direction to interrupt Damien. As luck would have it, the object landed right on my blanket.

Upon closer inspection, I realized it was a used condom - the one they had just used.

I felt a wave of nausea wash over me. I threw back the covers and started dry heaving.Damien jumped in surprise, quickly throwing the blanket to the floor. He anxiously patted my back and asked:

"Callie, what's wrong? Are you feeling sick?"

The scent of Meadow's perfume on the man's body instantly flooded my nostrils, making the churning in my stomach even more intense. I couldn't hold back and actually threw up.

I hadn't had a drop of water in years, surviving only on IV fluids. What came out was just a puddle of liquid.

Seeing this, Damien became even more frantic. He worriedly pulled me into his arms.

"Callie, are you alright?"

I wanted to push him away, but my body, just regaining consciousness, had little strength. I could only pat his hand:

"I'm fine."

"I still think I should call the doctor to give you a full check-up. I won't be at ease otherwise."

The concern in Damien's eyes only grew stronger. He put on his clothes and went to call the doctor. Meadow, seeing this, left as well.

The test results came back quickly. My body was almost in a fully recovered state, and I could be discharged in three days.

Hearing this, the joy in Damien's eyes intensified. He took the diamond ring he hadn't had a chance to put on me earlier and slipped it onto my finger."Damien, surely the heavens have taken pity on my years of waiting for you and softened their hearts to send you back to me. In three days, I'll take you to get our marriage license, and next month we'll have the wedding."

I swallowed the nausea rising in my throat and gave a faint "Mm-hmm."

I was indeed planning to get married, but not to Damien.

Damien started to say something else, but I cut him off by lying down with my back to him.

"I'm tired and need to rest. You should go."

A flicker of disappointment crossed Damien's eyes, but he eventually left.

The moment the door clicked shut, I grabbed my phone from the nightstand and dialed the number etched in my memory.

It wasn't long before a man's voice came through the other end.

"Who's this?"

"It's me, Callie. Does your offer of marriage from five years ago still stand?"

There was a clear pause on the other end before the voice replied, barely concealing its excitement:

"Callie, you're awake? That promise from five years ago stands as long as I'm breathing. But are you really willing to leave Damien to be with me?"

I didn't answer his question, instead saying:

"Then I'll see you at the courthouse in three days."
