I Rejected My Alpha Mate

The morning light filtered through the stained glass windows of the preparation room, casting rainbow patterns across the floor. Today was supposed to be the most important day of my life—my Mate Ceremony with Lucas, the Alpha of Shadow Claw Pack. I smoothed down my ceremonial dress, feeling the delicate fabric beneath my fingertips. Everything had to be perfect. "Kamryn spent months on this," I whispered to myself, thinking of my best friend who had hand-stitched my ceremonial cloak with rare silver thread. The cloak wasn't just fabric—it was a symbol of our bond, of my position as Luna, of the future I had built here. I pushed open the door to the preparation room, my heart light with anticipation. The smile froze on my face. "Oh no," I breathed, my eyes fixed on the floor. My ceremonial cloak lay in tatters, the silver threads glinting mockingly in the light.

I Rejected My Alpha Mate Chapter 1

The fabric had been shredded, as if clawed by some wild animal. But worse than that—worse than the destruction of Kamryn's labor—was the figure standing beside it.

Sienna.

My "foster sister." The Omega who had never shifted, who Lucas had protected since childhood.

She was wearing the remnants of my cloak, the tattered pieces draped over her shoulders like some grotesque shawl. Her eyes were wide with false innocence, tears streaming down her face.

"I'm so sorry, Zoe," she sobbed, her voice trembling. "I just wanted to feel pretty like a Luna. I didn't mean to ruin it. It ripped by accident when I tried it on."

I stared at her, unable to form words. The lie was so blatant, so ridiculous. The cloak had been designed specifically for my measurements, for my ceremony. There was no way Sienna could have "tried it on" without destroying it.

"Zoe?" Lucas's voice came from behind me. He entered the room, his Alpha presence filling the space. His eyes darted between us, landing on Sienna's tear-streaked face. "What's going on?"

Before I could speak, he was at Sienna's side, his arm around her shoulders.

"Lucas," I finally managed, my voice shaking with rage. "She destroyed my ceremonial cloak. The one Kamryn made for me."

"It was just a piece of fabric, Zoe," Lucas said, his tone dismissive. "Don't be so materialistic. Sienna was just curious about what it felt like."

I felt something snap inside me. Years of tolerance, of understanding, of making excuses for his protection of Sienna—it all crumbled in that moment.

The Grand Hall was filled with neighboring Alphas, all gathered to witness our union. I stood at the altar, Lucas beside me. The air was thick with anticipation.

It was time for our vows.

I took a deep breath, feeling Luna stir within me. My wolf had been restless all day, sensing my distress.

"Zoe," Lucas prompted, smiling at me. "Say your vows."

I looked into his eyes—eyes I had once thought held my entire world. Now I saw only blindness.

"I, Zoe Sullivan," I began, my voice clear and steady. The hall fell silent, every ear tuned to my words.

Then I channeled a fraction of my suppressed Alpha tone—the power I had hidden for so long.

"Reject you, Lucas Black, as my mate."

The words echoed through the hall. A collective gasp rose from the crowd. Lucas's face drained of color.

"What?" he whispered, disbelief etched across his features.

"I reject you," I repeated, louder this time. The mate bond between us snapped with an audible crack, like lightning splitting the air.

Lucas dropped to his knees, clutching his chest. The backlash of our severed bond hit him like a physical blow.

"It was a misunderstanding!" he shouted, scrambling to his feet. "Zoe, wait—"

But I was already walking away, my head held high.

Then I heard it—a dramatic thud as Sienna collapsed in the crowd.

"Sienna!" Lucas cried, immediately abandoning his pursuit of me. He rushed to her side, cradling her limp form. "Someone help her!"

I stood alone at the altar, watching as everyone's attention turned to the fainting Omega. Just as it always did.

---

I shifted into my wolf form, needing to run, to clear my head. Luna's silver coat gleamed in the sunlight as I raced across the pack territory, wind in my fur.

When I finally returned to the Pack House, my anger had cooled into something more dangerous—resolve.

I headed straight for my Luna Suite, needing to pack my belongings, to leave this place that had never truly been mine.

I froze in the doorway.

Sienna's uncle sat sprawled on my couch, gnawing on a chicken leg. Her cousins were raiding my refrigerator. And Sienna herself was directing two beta wolves to move my things to a guest room.

"What is this?" I demanded.

"Oh, Zoe," Lucas appeared behind me. "Sienna needs the Luna Suite. It has the best security for her... fragile state."

I stared at him, then at the strangers making themselves at home in my space.

"You're giving away my territory?" I asked, my voice dangerously quiet.

"They're just staying temporarily," Lucas assured me. "Sienna's family needs somewhere safe."

As I watched them destroy my scent-marked items, tossing my clothes aside to make room for their own belongings, something inside me hardened.

This wasn't just about a cloak anymore. This was about my dignity, my position, my power.

And I was done pretending I didn't have any.

He Married Me Just for Money Novel Cover

“Don’t stop,” she whispered. “She won’t come up.” I did. I stopped breathing. Thinking. Existing. The voice came from inside my bedroom—our bedroom. My sanctuary. I stood frozen in the hallway, dinner still warm downstairs, candles flickering in a room that no longer mattered. The scent of truffle butter still clung to my sleeves. Through the door—left carelessly ajar—I saw enough. A woman with auburn hair and wine-colored nails was curled into my husband's side, her lipstick smeared across his throat like a bruise. Her fingers skimmed down his back, possessive, practiced. Oliver moaned softly. A sound I hadn’t heard in months. I didn’t scream. I didn’t cry. I turned. Through the adjoining bathroom, I slipped into the walk-in closet, hiding behind the luxury he insisted I needed. Dresses lined in neat rows. Shoes in pyramids. A fortress of silk and leather and betrayal. I sat down, gripping the hem of my dress, listening. “I don’t know why you’re still stalling,” Lily said, her voice languid and confident. “She’s not stupid, Oliver. She’s suspicious. You said she keeps asking questions.” He sighed. “Let her ask. She won’t do anything. Not until it’s too late.” A beat. “She’s planning something tonight,” he added, almost amused. “Made some kind of fancy dinner. Probably filet again. It’s sweet, in a tragic way.” Lily giggled. “You think she’s figured out we’ve been using her?” “Scarlett sees what she wants to see. She’s desperate. That’s what makes it easy.” There was movement on the bed. Sheets shifting. “She still has no idea about the inheritance?” Lily murmured. “None,” he said. “Her father’s trust releases next month. Once the money hits the accounts, I’ll serve the papers. I’ve already started moving things offshore.” My throat closed. I bit the inside of my cheek so hard I tasted blood. So this was what I got from our five-year marriage.
