Chapter 2

There were five more missed calls.

[Are you still online?

[It’s late now. Get some rest. Goodnight.]

After a few minutes, he sent a heart emoji alongside a photo of his abs.

In the photo, he was wearing sweatpants. He was lying casually on the bed, and his long legs were the highlight of the photo.

In natural light, his skin had a healthy tan.

Veins popped on his arms, and his long fingers covered an intimate yet suggestive spot.

He was clearly seducing me!

I silently downloaded the photo.

I blushed and thought to myself, ‘He seems to have a big package.’

When I was freshening up, someone rang the doorbell downstairs.

My helper opened the door and immediately gasped.

“Victoria, come down! There’s a huge bouquet of roses for you.”

‘Roses…’ I thought.

That seemed so tacky.

I slowly headed downstairs.

I walked over with disdain and quickly glanced at the card.

I realized there was also a delicate jewelry box on top of the roses.

I opened it and found my bracelet lying in the box!

That was the last gift my father gave me before he passed away.

After he passed away, the company faced cash flow problems. I auctioned off all of my valuables, including that very bracelet.

I recalled that a foreigner had bought it for almost three million dollars.

Jack’s friend had managed to locate the buyer and bought it back for me!

I rubbed my nose before I pulled up our chat box.

[I received the presents. Thank you! Can you send me your bank account details?]

I could not afford to pay him at one go, but I could pay him in installments.

[I don’t want money. I just want you.]

I thought he would refuse, but I had not expected him to follow it up with something so bold.

My fingers lingered on the phone screen as I tried to think of a reply.

Just then, I received a call.

It was Jack. He reminded me that I had to attend his friend’s birthday party with him.

“Don’t wear anything too revealing. Just remember to wear your chest binder so that your chest won’t look so big. You’ll look better that way.”

I agreed to his request.

Then, I chose a low-cut gown.

When I reached the venue, Jack was talking with a group of friends.

His face fell immediately when he saw my attire.

He pulled me aside.

“Why did you come here dressed like that?”

I ignored him. Instead, I glanced at the group of people behind him.

Among all the suggestive gazes, I unexpectedly met a pair of eyes that were dark with emotions.

Carter Jones was standing alone in a corner as he met my eyes across the buzzing crowd.

Inexplicably, I was in a trance.

Carter looked away first and finished his glass of wine in one gulp.

He almost smiled before he put on his usual nonchalant expression.

I could feel my heart racing.

At the same time, a ridiculous thought surfaced in my head.

Was he the one who texted me?

I brushed the thought aside.

He had always been cold and aloof toward me.

It seemed as though he had no interest in anything.

Whenever I greeted him, he nodded indifferently.

He was a man of few words.

At one point in time, I felt like he disliked me, so it was impossible for him to like me in that way.

“Victoria, are you mute? Talk to me!” Jack waved his hand in front of my face in annoyance.

I frowned and freed myself from his grip. “Don’t you think I look good in this dress?”

I straightened up to make my chest appear more prominent.

Jack looked like he was about to faint.

I took a step forward. He immediately clasped his hand over his mouth and ran toward the washroom.

Jack had a phobia of huge chests.

It was a very weird phobia.

Even though he did not like women with huge chests, he had strangely chosen to pursue me.

I only found out about his weird phobia when we almost got intimate with each other.

I was about to commit myself to him when he suddenly fainted at the very crucial moment.
