ENTANGLED WITH THE THREE BILLIONAIRES Chapter 1

Stepping down from the bus, I grabbed my bag and hurriedly made my way to the skyscraper no one in New York could miss.

Once inside the building, I quickly stooped to fix my loosening shoe laces, next was my tie which hung loosely from my neck. And that was when I saw the elevator door closing.

"Wait! Wait!" I yelled at the top of my lungs as I raced to the door.

"Phew!" I sighed in relief once I got in. Hurriedly, I knotted my tie.

It was only when I was done that I raised my gaze and threw it about the elevator.

Tilting my head, I eyed the man that stood at my left.

Hands at his side, he stared plain faced ahead.

I trailed my eyes up and down the impressive lenght of the man's body and didn't know when I blew a whistle.

Darn! This man's tall!

The sound of my whistle must have attracted his attention, cause he turned to look at me.

That was when I froze.

Raven black hair, lightest of grey eyes, a firmly set jawline, lips that performed wonders. All of these, I slowly took in and let my mouth hang open in disbelief.

Was this really him? What on earth was he doing here?

"You! What on earth are you..." I stopped and ran my eyes over him again, he was obviously dressed for work.

That's right he worked here.

Still staring at him, I tucked a stray strand of hair behind my ear. And for a moment, I wondered what my best friend would do if she were in the situation I found myself in right now.

You know, being in the office elevator with the man you got wasted with last night.

I darted my eyes away from his face to the ground, wondering if I should say hi.

Of course you should say hi, I thought to myself.

We met around seven in the evening, went to a bar together, drank, talked, I even brought him home and we had amazing sex all night.

I nodded to myself. When I brought my eyes back to his face, he had this weird stare.

"Hi," I managed to say but he just stared back.

"It's me Shelly, we met yesterday in the evening, remember? I didn't know you worked here."

A slow smile crept at the corners of his lips and instead of replying he just turned his face away.

Was he shy?

"Heh it's okay, we may have had fun last night but we're in the office now. Don't worry I understand, we've got to be professional. You know, separating work life from our personal lives. I can be quite professional you know?" I added.

Not adding to anything I said, he just stood there.

I knew I should stop talking right now cause it was getting embarassing but I just couldn't.

"So umm..." I cleared my throat. "I know we should be professional but then we're the only ones in here so maybe we could do a little chitchat?"

The door to the elevator swung open and he walked out.

"Heh!" I called out after him.

"Walking fast to match his pace, I spoke from behind him."

"Heh! Don't you think that's a little rude; walking out on me! You know umm, I was going to tell you that you were amazing."

Seeing he wasn't responding, I changed the conversation.

"Ok, fine let's not umm, let's not talk about last night since we're in the work place."

He just kept walking.

"Which floor's your office? Umm, hello?"

I called out but he kept walking, totally ignoring me.

Infuriated, I stopped in my tracks.

This man ignoring me was the same man who had turned me to various positions on my bed last. This same man was the reason the lace panties my bestie had gifted me were torn into shreds.

Balling my fist, I tried to suppress the rage that was slowly building up in me.

So he's a horny beast at night that fucks random women he picks from clubs but a decent office man by day?

Picking up my speed, I rushed towards him and grabbed his hand.

"Heh! I said I'm Shelly, the woman you fucked like mad last night."

The man then spoke, "I never did such thing."

This infuriated me.

"Heh! That isn't nice. Okay fine, let's say I wasn't the only woman you toyed around with yesterday but if there's anyone you shouldn't forget, it's me. We drank and talked all evening, then we had a long passionate night together.",

I searched his face for any signs of remembrance but he maintained the annoying straight face.

"You don't remember Liam, were you drunk?" I asked and watched him tilt his head in annoyance.

"Miss, I suggest you leave me alone and hurry on to work." He stated and turned to go, freeing himself from my grip.

"Miss?" I repeated the word in disbelief.

Fury filled me but then his words rung in my ears. Nothing else was able to calm me down right then than the fact that I was late.

"Shit!" I muttered beneath my breath before shouting out. "Jerk!"

Then I spun around and observed my surroundings.

Where was I?

"Excuse me," I stopped a young lady passing by. "Which floor is this please?"

"48th," she replied.

"Shoot!" I muttered and rushed to the elevator.

Once in, I pressed the button to the floor below, the 47th.

I slapped myself.

Darn it! What on earth was I thinking? It was already horrible that I didn't wake early and now I'm late for work, but did I really have to waste all those precious minutes on that jerk?

I sighed and stepped out of the elevator. Locating the office where I was asked to come to, took me some time, in the end I returned to the 48th floor.

Chest heaving, I looked about, wondering why the room was empty.

"Excuse me," I stopped a lady passing by with a box.

"Yes?"

"This room- shouldn't it - I mean, I thought..."

"Where you just recruited?" She cut in.

"Um, yeah."

"You're asking about the official introduction, right?"

"Yeah right!"

"It's over."

"What! Already?"

"The introduction was set by 8, what's the time now?"

"Ummm," I stared down at my watch, my eyes widened.

I stared up at her ccompletely shocked."It's 9:45! H-how did the time fly so fast?"

"You expect me to answer that question?"

"No I..." I stopped short not knowing what else to say.

"What office?"

"Me? I got hired as a secretary."

"Who's secretary?" She asked and my heart did a double flip.

When I had first read that email, I had been so excited but right now, I felt like dying.

In a low voice, I let the words out.

"The CEO."

"The what?"

"The CEO," I repeated and stared up into her shocked face.

"Wait a sec, you got hired as Mr. King's secretary and PA and you're late for work!"

"No I - wait, who's Mr. King?"

"He's the CEO! For goodness sake, you don't even know the name of your boss!"

"No I..." I stopped short, feeling completely stupid. Then my eyes went to the box in her hands.

"What's in there?" I asked curious.

"Luciana's things."

"Who's that?"

"The woman Mr. King fired this morning. I'm helping her with some of her stuff."

I gulped. "W-wh-why did he fire her?"

"She came late."

My knees suddenly got weak and they wobbled beneath me.

"She came late," I repeated absent mindedly and reached down to dry my sweaty palms on my skirt as I watched her walk away.

I'm so doomed.

The champagne in my glass was vintage Dom Pérignon, crisp and biting against my tongue, but the air in the ballroom tasted stale. It was the specific staleness of old money and desperate ambition mixing under the heat of a thousand crystal chandeliers. The Starlight Charity Gala was in full swing, a sea of black tuxedos and designer gowns swirling through the cavernous hall of the Pierre Hotel. I stood near the periphery, away from the frenetic energy of the dance floor. My fingers idly traced the rim of the flute. I wasn't hiding, exactly. I was observing. Three years ago, crowds like this would have made my heart hammer against my ribs like a trapped bird. Now, I just felt a quiet, observant calm. I adjusted the silk of my gown—a deep midnight blue that Adrian had selected because he said it matched the quiet storm in my eyes.

The pack run had been Marcelo's idea. He'd announced it three days prior at the weekly council meeting, his Alpha tone leaving no room for debate. A show of unity, he'd called it. A reminder that the Black Moon Pack moved as one body, one purpose. I'd watched him from my seat at the far end of the table—the Luna's chair, though I'd stopped feeling like a Luna months ago—and said nothing. Petra Voss had nodded approvingly. The other council members had murmured their agreement. Rosalina, seated closer to Marcelo than protocol allowed, had smiled that soft, adoring smile she always wore around him. I should have known then. The territory's northern river was swollen from early spring melt, the current fast and mean.

At six in the morning, the penthouse was a hush of pale gray light. The marble under my bare feet was cold. I sat on the edge of the bathtub with the test stick in my hand and watched the second pink line darken until there was no more pretending. Eight weeks. Maybe nine. My thumb found the inside of my left wrist and pressed there. A small habit. A way to hold myself in one piece. I did it without thinking, the way some people pray. I looked up at the mirror across from me.
