I Died When My Ex Tried To Get Back Together
Chapter 4
“I’m glad that you like it. Charles, I promise that I’ll show up beautifully dressed at your 101st proposal. I’ll plan the venue and decorations myself. You only have to show up as the most handsome man.
“I’ll handle everything. You’re not allowed to lose your temper with me anymore.”
I looked at her earnest face.
“I won’t be involved with you anymore.”
She paused. She had finally heard the distance in my voice.
She reached for my hand, but her phone rang urgently.
She answered the call and glanced at me apologetically.
“The director needs some reshoots. I have to go.”
I knew it was a lie.
I had clearly heard George’s voice on the phone.
“I understand. Go ahead.”
My calm reaction made her panic for a second. She bit her lip and murmured to herself.
“For tomorrow night’s proposal, I’ll wear a wedding dress. We’ll hold a grand ceremony.
“Our story will be the trendiest topic, ‘The seven-year love story of Debbie Ford and her agent.’ You should be excited.”
Then, she rushed off.
Agent?
She still did not know I had resigned.
With that kind of indifference, what was there to be excited about?
I smiled, tossed the ring aside, took a shower, and went to sleep.
The next day, someone rang the doorbell.
I opened the door and saw George.
I raised an eyebrow. “What are you doing here?”
“I heard that Debbie will finally accept your proposal tonight,” he said softly. “Charles, I called her last night. She immediately rushed over to meet me. If she really loved you, why would she leave you like that?”
He smirked slightly. He was so proud and youthful, and it reminded me of my younger self.
I answered calmly, “If she cares about you so much, why not marry you?
“When you met her last night, you should have asked her to bring you a big diamond ring and let you propose to her instead.”
His expression changed immediately. He snapped back at me through clenched teeth.
“She doesn’t love you. You’re the third wheel between us!
“She simply feels indebted to you. You’re old and ugly! What do you have compared to me?”
I did not bother arguing. I took the ring from the shoe rack and placed it in his hand.
“Take the ring. Propose to her tonight. I dare you.”
He stared at me in disbelief.
“Watch me!”
He grabbed the ring and stormed off.
I exhaled in relief. Then, I packed my suitcase and headed for the airport.
Right before takeoff, I received a text from Debbie.
[For tonight’s proposal, it’ll be my turn to propose to you. You must come.]
I smiled, blocked her number, deleted every contact on my phone, and left the city.
At 8 p.m., the livestreamed proposal began.
The viewers who expected to mock me were stunned when Debbie herself appeared on camera.
She held a bouquet and waited for her fiance to walk toward her.
Footsteps came closer.
Her eyes suddenly widened. She jumped to her feet and shouted furiously at the man in front of her, “Why are you here?!”
