I Chose Divorce After Reading His Takeout Note
Chapter 3
I carefully examined the wound on my lips. Thankfully, it wasn't a serious injury since the cream puff had only come into contact with my skin briefly.
Loretta had actually added strong alkali inside the cream puffs. Her goal was to scar and disfigure my face.
I was set on making her pay for what she did to me.
With a face mask on, I brought Cole along to the company.
The receptionist informed me that I had to make an appointment and fill in the registration form first before they let me into the CEO's office.
I snickered. "You're new here, right? I started this company. Why would I have to do that when entering my own company?"
Riley Croft, the receptionist, seemed rather amused. Her mouth lifted in a mocking smile.
"How come I haven't heard of you from my boss or colleagues, then? Wouldn't it be a fault on my part if I were to just let anyone into our office?"
I nodded since she made a fair point.
I said monotonously, "Henry Lloyd, your CEO, is my husband. I can go in now, right?"
The other employees, who overheard our exchange, started whispering and pointing toward me.
"Do all mistresses act so brazenly and righteously nowadays? Mrs. Lloyd might rush over and pull this woman's hair out if she were to find out about this."
A frown creased my forehead. I found Loretta's photo on my phone and showed it to Riley.
"Is she the Mrs. Lloyd that all of you are talking about?"
Riley rolled her eyes. "That's right. You can't expect us to believe that you're Mrs. Lloyd instead. So, hurry and leave. You're the one who's going to be humiliated if Mrs. Lloyd shows up here."
I ignored her and went to the break room designated for the cleaning staff.
I pointed at Loretta's photo and asked one of the cleaning ladies, "Excuse me. Does Loretta Adams work in the cleaning department?"
The cleaning lady shook her head.
"Isn't that Ms. Adams, our boss' wife? She's our company's deputy CEO. Mr. Lloyd cherishes and dotes on her endlessly. There's no way he'll make her do dirty and tiring work like cleaning."
My heart sank.
Before we got married, my parents funded and founded this company for me.
However, Henry said he wanted to prove that he wasn't someone who was after my money. To boost his ego, I decided to step back and let Henry take over as the company's CEO.
I never imagined that Henry would make his mistress the second in command in my company ten years later.
In that case, I should really kick this shameless couple out of the company.
Cole whispered to me, "We already have video recordings as evidence. I have at least 90% confidence in winning the divorce lawsuit. Don't worry, and just leave it to me."
We were about to open the door to Henry's office when a man wearing a pair of glasses blocked our way.
"How dare you, a mere mistress, try to barge into our boss' office while our boss' wife is not around? Let's see what you really look like!"
He lunged forward and tore my mask off.
All the employees who were watching how things would unfold were momentarily stunned.
Someone muttered, "Isn't that Mr. Lloyd's ex-wife?"
Cole and I exchanged a glance.
When did Henry and I get a divorce? How come I had zero clue about it?
It appeared Henry had told the employees very different things while keeping me in the dark.
We entered Henry's office. Then, I unlocked the door to the lounge with my thumbprint.
Explicit photos printed out as huge posters were put up on the walls inside the lounge. The man and woman captured in those photos were undoubtedly Henry and Loretta.
Various adult toys and sheer, see-through outfits were kept inside a closet.
I slowly closed my eyes as I tried to calm myself down. After Cole had done recording everything in the room as evidence, and we closed the door behind us, my tears brimmed over.
The lounge was a special place that was tied to the sweet memories Henry and I shared for the past ten years.
If I hadn't stumbled upon that remark saved in the delivery app, I might have been kept in the dark for the rest of my life.
When I got home and opened the front door, I stood rooted to the spot.
While holding a bouquet of 99 roses, Henry got down on one knee.
