Chapter 4

Henry's eyes turned red as he stared at the swollen area of my lips.

He said in a choked voice, "Honey, it was my fault yesterday. If Retta hadn't told me about it, I probably wouldn't notice that you got hurt.

"Retta doesn't have enough experience in making pastries. She mistook some strong alkali for white sugar and made those inedible cream puffs. None of you did anything wrong. It was my fault for failing to care for you."

I pushed away the bouquet of roses and said flatly, "Henry, I've had enough. Let's get a divorce."

He hugged me tightly and replied in a gentle voice, "You asked me for a divorce yesterday, and I refused. Today, I'm proposing to you all over again. Let's just pretend that none of this has happened, alright?"

I squirmed free from his grip. Henry had probably forgotten all about our promise from back then.

During our first year of marriage, I said, "If you happen to break your vows to me one day, I'm willing to give you one chance and one chance only."

Yet, he was shamelessly asking me to give him another chance now.

Henry thought that I had forgiven him when he didn't hear anything from me. As he hummed a tune softly, he went to the kitchen to prepare a meal for me.

As expected, he wouldn't suddenly be nice to me for no reason. Henry must assume that we could just forget about what happened and pretend nothing had happened if I stopped insisting on getting divorced.

Nothing much happened during the next few days.

I secretly contacted the private investigator and asked him to collect photo evidence of Henry and Loretta together.

Yet, Henry did not stick to his usual routine. Instead, he had been coming home early and cooking meals for me.

Today, a former war comrade phoned him.

"You promised back then that you'd treat Loretta well. Yet, why am I hearing from other people that you've found yourself a mistress? Loretta's just gotten pregnant, yet you're already seeing another woman. You're an embarrassment to me and our fellow comrades!"

The voice coming down the line was pretty loud. While sitting there having breakfast, I tried to pretend that I hadn't heard what the caller was saying.

Still, I heard everything clearly.

Henry had an anxious look in his eyes as he glanced at me.

He was rather distracted. He made up some excuse and quickly ended the call. Then, he turned his eyes to me. "Honey, my former war comrades are meeting up to celebrate our ten years of friendship. I'll make sure to come home early after seeing them."

I looked at the new evidence that the private investigator had sent to my phone. Then, I smiled brightly at Henry. "Sure. You should go and meet them."

With the new evidence, Henry and Loretta would most likely have to spend some time in prison.

The private investigator sent me the location fairly quickly. Henry and his former war comrades were having a reunion at a villa owned by us, located on the outskirts.

After he left, I dressed up in premium designer clothes and headed out as well. I drove a Rolls-Royce out of the garage and went in the same direction Henry was headed.

I unlocked the villa's front door with my thumbprint. At that moment, the others were all teasing and pushing Henry and Loretta to play a game where they used their mouth to pass a card around.

Someone cheered them on. "Kiss! Kiss!"

Those people paused briefly when they saw me standing by the door with a dark look on my face. One of them asked, "Who are you?"

I took off my sunglasses and gazed at Henry, who sat in a corner of the room and had his arm around Loretta's waist.

"Honey, why didn't you bring me along to your reunion gathering?"

A man with a buzz cut scoffed. "You're the woman Henry's been seeing lately, huh? Loretta already told us how Henry was often not home because you seduced him. She, a pregnant woman, had to stay at home all by herself.

"Also, a mere mistress like you even drives a Rolls-Royce? You got the car by selling your body, didn't you?"

Henry was extremely flustered. He dashed toward me and tried to pull me away. "Honey, I'll explain to you later when I get home."

I pushed his hand away and hurled our marriage certificate toward Henry's face. "Henry, since when did you have two wives? How come I have no idea about it?"
