Husband's Betrayal

9.7 / 10.0
The key felt heavier than usual as I slipped it into the lock of our front door, my heart racing with anticipation. Three days early—Wyatt would never expect me back from the Chicago business conference until Friday. Our fifth wedding anniversary was tomorrow, and I could hardly contain my excitement at the thought of surprising him. The house was unusually quiet as I stepped inside, my heels clicking softly against the marble foyer. Wyatt's car was in the driveway, so he had to be home. Maybe he was in his study, buried in work as usual. I set down my luggage carefully, not wanting to make any noise that might spoil the surprise. I had planned this moment for weeks—slipping away from the conference early, catching the red-eye flight, all to see the look on his face when I appeared unexpectedly. In my purse was the vintage watch I'd found at an antique shop in Chicago, engraved with our wedding date. Wyatt had always been sentimental about meaningful gifts.

Husband's Betrayal Chapter 1

As I climbed the stairs, a strange sound made me pause. Soft laughter—feminine laughter that definitely wasn't coming from the television. My stomach clenched with an odd unease, but I pushed the feeling aside. Maybe Wyatt had invited his sister over, or perhaps our housekeeper was still here.

The laughter came again, closer now, from the direction of our bedroom. My steps slowed involuntarily, something cold settling in my chest. The sound was intimate, breathy in a way that made my skin crawl with recognition I didn't want to acknowledge.

I reached our bedroom door, which stood slightly ajar. Through the gap, I could see movement, shadows shifting in the afternoon light filtering through our curtains. My hand trembled as I pushed the door open wider.

The world tilted sideways.

Wyatt was in our bed—our marriage bed—with Opal Hawkins pressed against him, her dark hair spilled across his chest. Her lips were curved in a satisfied smile as she traced patterns on his skin with her fingertips. They were both barely clothed, the sheets tangled around their bodies in a way that left no doubt about what had transpired.

"Wyatt?" The word escaped my lips as barely a whisper, but it shattered the intimate silence like a gunshot.

Both of them turned toward me. Wyatt's face went white, his eyes wide with what looked like confusion rather than guilt. But Opal—Opal's expression was something else entirely. For just a split second, I caught a flash of pure triumph in her dark eyes before she arranged her features into a mask of shock and shame.

"Serenity!" Opal gasped, clutching the sheet to her chest in a gesture that seemed more theatrical than genuine. "Oh God, I'm so sorry. I never meant for you to find out like this."

Find out? The words hit me like physical blows. This wasn't a mistake, wasn't a moment of weakness. This was an affair—a deliberate, ongoing betrayal.

"What is this?" I managed to choke out, my voice cracking. "Wyatt, what is she doing here?"

Wyatt sat up slowly, running his hands through his disheveled hair. His movements seemed sluggish, almost drugged. "Serenity, I... I don't understand. You weren't supposed to be back until—"

"Until Friday," I finished for him, the pieces clicking together with sickening clarity. "So you could carry on with her in our home, in our bed, without me knowing."

Opal had started to cry—perfect tears sliding down her cheeks as she looked between Wyatt and me. "I tried to stop myself, Serenity. I really did. But Wyatt and I... we've been seeing each other for months now. I couldn't help falling in love with him."

Months. The word echoed in my head, each repetition driving the knife deeper. While I had been working late, traveling for business, planning our anniversary surprise, my husband had been with the girl I had sponsored through college. The girl I had welcomed into our home, treated like family.

"You're lying," I whispered, but even as I said it, the evidence was right in front of me. Opal's clothes scattered on our floor. Her perfume hanging in the air. The way Wyatt wouldn't meet my eyes.

"I wish I was," Opal said softly, her voice breaking with what sounded like genuine remorse. "I never wanted to hurt you, Serenity. You've been so good to me. But sometimes love just... happens."

She reached out as if to touch Wyatt's arm, and he didn't pull away. That small gesture—or lack of rejection—destroyed something fundamental inside me. The man I had loved since childhood, the man I had built my entire life around, was choosing someone else. Someone I had trusted, someone I had helped.

"Get out," I said, my voice barely audible.

"Serenity—" Wyatt started.

"GET OUT!" The scream tore from my throat, raw and desperate. "Both of you, get out of my house!"

But even as the words left my lips, I knew it was already too late. The damage was done, and nothing would ever be the same again.

The Inter-Pack Summit's grand hall glowed with ceremonial torches, casting dramatic shadows across the faces of the most powerful Alphas in the region. I stood at the entrance, my silver aura radiating outward in controlled waves—not a display of emotion, but a calculated reminder of the Silvermoon Pack's strength under my leadership. Marcus positioned himself precisely one step behind me and to my right, his presence a silent comfort through our private mind-link. *They're all watching for weakness,* he observed, his thoughts flowing into mine with familiar ease. *Then they'll find none,* I replied, scanning the room with measured indifference. Alpha Kaelen Blackwood approached first, his dark eyes evaluating me with the same predatory calculation I recognized in myself. "Alpha Victoria," he greeted, inclining his head just slightly enough to acknowledge my status without suggesting submission. "Your champion has brought considerable attention to the Silvermoon territory." "As intended," I replied coolly, the subtle tap of my index finger against my thigh the only outward sign of my strategic assessment.
