Husband's Affair After Divorce Novel Cover

Husband's Affair After Divorce

On the day we were supposed to finalize our divorce, I was hit with sudden, excruciating stomach pain. “What’s the matter? Can’t keep up the act anymore?” “If you don’t actually want a divorce, just admit it. Stop pretending you’re sick.” Miles sneered at me, arrogance radiating from his posture. I gritted my teeth and tried to bear it, but the pain was overwhelming, and I passed out before we could finish the paperwork. When I woke up, I was in a hospital bed. Miles handed me a stack of receipts, his expression dripping with condescension. “Lucky you had the surgery before the divorce, otherwise you’d have had to foot the entire bill yourself. It’s $700; you can transfer me $350.” He tossed the medical bills onto my lap, and the room spun around me. I never thought I’d suffer an acute appendicitis attack on the day of our divorce, let alone that Miles would stoop this low.

Chapter 6

I collapsed onto the couch, overwhelmed by a flood of tears. It wasn't the divorce that shattered my heart, but the harsh truth cutting through me like a dull knife, inch by inch.

I was left in complete disarray, feeling like life had dealt me an unbearable blow.

In a way, Clover nudged me down the path to divorce with Miles. That day, Miles needed his driver's license, so I went to the car to find it for him. As I rummaged through the glove compartment, I noticed faint fingerprints smudged across the passenger-side mirror and door handle—traces of sunscreen and foundation, clear as day.

I hadn't been in Miles's car for days, yet the fingerprints were fresh and impossible to miss. My first instinct was to check the dashcam footage, only to discover it had been completely erased. Suddenly, a chilling realization gripped me.

The thought of Miles's infidelity took root in my mind, planting seeds of suspicion. Sitting in the parking garage, hands trembling, I dialed Clover's number. Clover worked with Miles; they were colleagues. When she first applied to Miles's company, Miles jokingly suggested I must have sent her to spy on him to ease my mind. He had even helped her get the job.

I trusted that if Miles was up to anything sketchy, Clover would notice right away. I remember that phone call vividly. Clover hesitated before finally speaking with determination.

"There are a few new graduate trainees at the company," she said. "One girl seems to be getting pretty close to Miles."

I pressed my fingers to my temple and shared my discovery with Clover. She gasped in surprise. From that point on, Clover began updating me almost daily on Miles's activities.

Eventually, Miles figured out I was keeping tabs on him. We erupted into a fierce argument, unlike any we had before.

Confiding in Clover, she was indignant on my behalf. She detailed my grievances and hinted that once a cheater, always a cheater. The fallout from our argument caused my relationship with Miles to grow more distant. Clover urged me to consider divorce, to cut my losses.

I thought I was simply dealing with a rotten husband, but it turned out I was betrayed by both my best friend and my husband. In the end, logic won over emotion.

I saved the video evidence of Miles's betrayal and made a phone call. "Let's schedule an online meeting for tomorrow; it's time to clean house at the company."

When I picked up the ring at the jewelry store, a notification from Twitter buzzed on my phone. It was a post with a photo captioned: "True love knows no bounds." The image showed a man’s silhouette, smiling warmly at a woman. The figure was unmistakably familiar—someone I saw every day and was supposed to marry in just a week. "Miss Angelina, your ring," the store clerk said, handing me the custom piece I had ordered a year ago. With a blank expression, I took the ring and went back to the car. I glanced at my young assistant in the driver’s seat, took his hand, and slipped the ring onto his finger. "It's yours now," I said. Richard was taken aback, looking at me in shock. "Angelina?" "Take me home," I instructed, leaning back in the passenger seat and closing my eyes. "Are we not going to check out the wedding venue?" Richard asked hesitantly.

I stared at the thermometer in disbelief, my heart racing as the digital numbers climbed past 103... 104 degrees. Westin's small body trembled against mine, his forehead burning against my palm. "Mommy, it hurts," he whimpered, his usually bright eyes now glassy and unfocused. His cheeks flushed an alarming shade of red against his otherwise pale skin. "I know, baby. I know." I tried to keep my voice steady as panic surged through me. I fumbled for my phone, punching Aaron's number with shaking fingers. It rang once before going to voicemail. "Aaron, Westin has a dangerously high fever.

The boardroom victory still hummed through my veins as I stepped into our penthouse, the city lights twinkling below like scattered diamonds. Another successful merger, another step forward for Taylor Industries. Barrett looked up from the leather sofa, his laptop balanced on his knees, and I felt that familiar warmth spread through my chest. After ten years of marriage, he still made me feel like we were building something beautiful together. "How did it go?" he asked, closing the laptop with a soft click. "Better than expected. The Henderson deal is officially ours." I kicked off my heels and padded across the marble floor toward him. "I was thinking we could celebrate with some wine and our playlist. You know, the one from our honeymoon?" Barrett's smile seemed genuine enough as he reached for the smart home remote. "Perfect.

The soft chime of the boutique door echoed behind me as I stepped into the sanctuary of luxury that was Maison Laurent. Crystal chandeliers cast a warm glow over displays of exquisite fabrics, each piece more breathtaking than the last. The familiar scent of expensive leather and subtle perfume wrapped around me like a comfortable embrace. I glanced at my phone—Reid was running twenty minutes late from his business meeting, but I didn't mind. Shopping at Maison Laurent was never a chore, especially when I had time to truly appreciate the artistry before me. "Miss Ford, how wonderful to see you again," Miranda Chen approached with her characteristic warm smile, her sleek black hair pulled into a perfect chignon. As the boutique's senior sales associate, Miranda had helped me select pieces for countless events over the years. "Are you looking for anything special today?" "Just browsing while I wait for Reid," I replied, running my fingers along a silk blouse that probably cost more than most people's monthly salary. "We have dinner reservations at eight." That's when I saw it. Hanging alone in the center display, bathed in its own spotlight, was the most stunning dress I'd ever laid eyes on.

I couldn't sleep. Again. The third night this week Alexander hadn't come home before midnight. His excuses were always the same—late meetings, client dinners, unexpected conference calls with Tokyo. I'd smile, nod, and pretend I believed him. Tonight, I decided to check the security footage. Not because I suspected anything—or perhaps because I'd been suspecting everything but couldn't bear to confirm it. My fingers trembled slightly as I navigated through the penthouse security system on my laptop. The living room, kitchen, hallway... all empty.
