Chapter 7

SKYLAR'S POV:-

I went back to my room crying crazily. Not because I saw people laughing at me. Not because I could not get that box. Also not because Anika insulted me. If uncle Adam could ever understand. I just wanted him to give me something. I wanted to go to him and ask him if he brought me something. I could not have cared for that stupid big box if he would just have given me something. Even if it was a small smile with a birthday greeting.

It would have meant the world to me. But all he had, as if it all belonged to Anika. I just did not know why. But I hated her because she was always with him and he never even looked at me. What I did that made him so angry at me. I wanted to hold his hand. I wanted to feel his warmth. I wanted to feel his heart beat. I did not care for what people would think about us. All I cared about was to get him to say, Skylar, you are pretty too. After all, I did everything for him only.

I gritted my teeth and turned around. I pushed my mom out of my way and went to murder her once and for all. So uncle Adam could just look at me. But when I got there, I heard a loud and dominating growl that made me bow down.

ANIKA'S POV:-

"Rise my people. I am not here today to make anyone submit. I am here for the special occasion." Alpha Thomas said in his usual voice. Everyone stood up and bowed their heads to welcome our Alpha. I also bowed my head in respect as I finally came back to my scenes.

"Ah! There you are, my little warrior." He said pointing his finger at me. I started shivering in fear as I held on to Adam's arm to support myself. Alpha Thomas came towards us. My father was still standing beside us. Alpha Thomas faced my father who gulped hard.

"I am the one who has sent this big gift box here before my arrival. You see, the gift inside this big box is not for an ordinary woman like this young lady I see, who somehow has grown guts to look me in the eyes." Alpha Thomas started and my father was breathing heavily. Then he pointed his finger at Skylar. He growled at her and she fell on her feet, submitting to the great Alpha. He then turned back towards me and I gulped the lump in my throat.

He went towards the big box he had gotten for me and untied the ribbons. The box opened, revealing the extraordinary gift he had gotten. He turned back towards me and with a proud grin on his face, he patted my shoulder. I gasped loudly and everyone, including Adam bowed their heads in respect.

It was an honour. If an Alpha pats the shoulder of a wolf, it means that Alpha is giving his honour and his tribute to that Wolf. But I was shocked as I really did not know why he honoured me like that. And that too on my eighteenth birthday and right in front of the family who had treated me like a piece of garbage. He turned back towards the audience while wrapping one of his arms around my shoulders.

"Rise my people. Let's get this cat out of the bag. My people, it was about about thirteen years ago. When our whole territory was attacked. The rogues had attacked us and got us all under their feet. I can still remember that day when I was thinking if I would be able to see my family before I die. If my territory would survive. What would those bastards do to my people after my death?" He started and I looked at our Luna Grace. She was smiling at me as if she was grateful. I did not know why she was grateful.

"That was until I saw a very brave warrior entering the main hall of our pack house. That warrior was way too young, weak and fragile as compared to the Alpha of the rogues but she was courageous enough to hold her sword bravely in front of him. She did not even reach his waist but still she did not bow down in front of him. She fought him and killed him. In the end, she was severely injured but she saved the whole territory." He said and my chest literally warmed up with all the nice words he was using for me. To honour me, he was giving his speech.

"All the enchantresses, including Celestial, had to perform an urgent ritual to save her life. She even got a scar on her face for life. But she did not care. For some of you, that scar is hideous, but for me, it is the mark of our victory. It is a mark of honour and bravery for me. So today, on her eighteenth birthday, I would like to give her this armour of the she Wolf warrior. It has been a century since this armour has not been passed towards the next warrior. But the day she fought to save our territory, I made up my mind that I will give it to her once she is eighteen. And today is that day." He said and everyone started clapping for me. I was wiping my palms on my dress. I was nervous and my palms were sweaty due to the nervousness I was feeling.

He went towards the armour of the she Wolf warrior and grabbed the sharpest sword in our territory. He pulled it out of his case and brought it to me. "My dear little warrior, will you accept this honour from your Alpha's side? And be the only female warrior in his army?" He asked me and my jaw dropped on the floor. It felt as if someone had given me a crown. I did not know what to do in that situation. My brain completely shut down as the Alpha offered me the most honourable sword in our territory.

I looked back at the only pillar of my life. He smiled as if he knew that I would look at him. He nodded his head and I smiled. I turned back towards the Alpha and bowed my head, showing respect towards my Alpha. "It would be my greatest honour to serve my home with my life. It is like a dream come true, my Alpha." I said as I had heard in the stories of the brave warriors. I grabbed the sword and my legs started shaking. I started taking deep breaths to calm myself down.

"You need to hold it the way you always hold your sword, my dear little warrior. Or the sword will reject you." Alpha Thomas said as he noticed me shaking. I nodded my head and held it with both of my hands. I raised the sword and I felt that. The power, the energy I had heard in all those stories, I felt that. It felt as if a light travelled all the way towards my heart and lightened up my chest. Tears beamed in my eyes as I brought it closer to my face. I kissed the blade and it glowed like a star.

"This was the honour to save my territory. Now, let's come to the reward to save my life. Ask me anything, my little warrior. I will grant you anything you would ask me." He said and I nervously looked around. I did not know what to ask him. I had everything I had ever wanted in my life. I was honoured by the Alpha himself. What else could I ask for?

"I don't want anything else in my life. I have everything." I replied in a nervous tone. I did not know how Alpha would react. But he just chuckled hearing my reply. He patted my head and I bowed my head.

"If that's the case, your wish is due. Even after my death, you will be granted that wish. Whatever you want, whenever you want. My son Kyle or your Luna Grace, they will make sure to grant you that wish even after me." He said and I giggled. I was about to bow in respect again but Alpha Thomas held my arms. He pulled me in a fatherly hug and everyone gasped loudly.

I smoothed down the silver ceremonial dress one last time, my fingers trembling slightly against the simple fabric. It wasn't the elaborate gown that Sophia would likely wear, but it was the best I had—a hand-me-down from my mother's youth, carefully preserved for special occasions. Today was certainly special. Today, Alexander would finally announce our courtship to the allied packs. "You look beautiful, Luna," Rose whispered from her bed, her voice thin but her smile radiant. At thirteen, my sister's wolf-sickness had left her too weak to attend the ceremony, another cruel reminder of our family's fallen status. "I wish you could come with me," I said, sitting beside her on the bed. I pulled out the small leather pouch of protective charms I'd gathered—tiny moonstone beads, dried wolfsbane flowers, and silver thread. "Then I'll be there in spirit." Rose turned, presenting her back to me. "Braid them in?" I worked the charms into her hair with practiced fingers, weaving protection and love into each strand.

My birthday had never been a big deal to Marcus, but eight years together had taught me to create my own joy. I'd left work early, planning to surprise him with the dinner reservation I'd made at Crystal Moon, the upscale restaurant in the neighboring pack's territory. I hummed softly, fingering the mate mark bracelet on my wrist—a silver band with our initials entwined that Marcus had given me when we completed our mate ceremony. The memory made my heart flutter, though the flutter wasn't as strong as it once was. My wolf had been unusually quiet lately, something I attributed to stress from my job at the pack's community center. "He'll be so surprised," I whispered to myself as I pulled into our driveway. The pack house was quiet this afternoon, most members at work or training. Perfect timing. I slipped my key into the lock, careful to be silent.
