Chapter 6

ANIKA'S POV:-

I looked at myself in the mirror one last time. I was hell nervous. Everything was perfect but the scar on my face was messing with the look. The dress and everything Adam had brought me, they were all very stunning but I could not help that scar. I just wished it would have gone. But I was not very lucky. I even asked the Celestial if she could make it go away. But she said it was permanent. Celestial was like a God mother to me. She was always nice to me. Whenever I felt lonely, I always went to her. She always made my pains go away. Gulping the nervousness down, I held my head high and stepped out of the room.

As I started descending down the stairs of the house, my heart started drumming inside my rib cage. I did not know what he would say. I did not know if he would like everything he had brought for me. Or I would just break his heart. Brushing off all the negative thoughts, I started taking deep breaths.

As the party came into view, everyone turned around and looked at me. But my eyes were roaming around to see the only person I wanted to see at that moment. But to my surprise, he was nowhere to be found. Just as I started to feel heavy in my chest, my eyes darted at him at the other corner of the hall. He was standing in front of a big box. As if he was guarding the box for some reason. His mouth was agape and he was staring at me with wide eyes.

I felt my cheeks burned as I saw him drooling over me, from head to toe. Ignoring everyone at the party, I went straight towards Adam who was looking at my body like a hungry wolf. I stood in front of him and snapped my fingers in front of him twice. As if he was woken up from a dream he was having, he blinked his eyes a few times. He cupped my face and chuckled softly as he again looked at me from head to toe.

"My beautiful little angel, you look absolutely stunning. As if this dress was stitched for you. Look how perfectly it is hugging your body." He said in an excited tone. I giggled shyly and started playing with the hem of my dress. He chuckled again at my nervousness and pulled me to his chest. Rubbing my back as always, he held me close to his chest to make me feel comfortable with the whole crowd as always.

Just as everything was going amazing, Skylar had to step in to ruin my perfect moment. She came towards us and Adam pushed me behind him. My dad followed her behind. Seeing him walking behind her, fuming in anger and glaring at me as if his glares would split me in half, or I would die a painful death. I had gotten used to all that. Long ago, I used to crave for the love and care only Skylar had gotten. But by the time I got older, I stopped even looking at my parents as my parents. They were total strangers to me.

"Adam, please give this gift to Sky, you can buy anything for Anika later. No one is going to ask if you should give her anything or not. But my baby wants this big gift box." My father said bitterly as he looked at me with a disgusted look on his face. I grabbed the pinky finger of Adam as my father's glares were boring holes in my head. It pained my heart to see how much they differentiate us both. We were twin daughters. They neither got anyone before us, nor after us. But still, Skylar was their favorite while I was always treated as her slave.

She wrapped her arms on her chest and gave me her evil smirk. As if she knew that she was winning some sort of war. I rolled my eyes at her childishness. I interviewed my fingers with Adam's and came forward. "Come on, Sky. Are you still gonna cry like a baby over things? How pathetic? You have thrown your eighteenth birthday party and yet you are crying to get the box you think is waiting for me. Grow up, I don't even care for things anymore, thanks to you. I care for people, things can be replaced, but people are irreplaceable. Adam, I don't need things, I have everything until I have you. That's all I want." I said and dad glared at me even more.

I heard a chuckle from the corner of the hall. It was grandpa who had started laughing at Sky. Seeing him, grandma also started laughing then everyone joined them. Laughing at Sky crazily. She gritted her teeth and started crying like a baby. I rolled my eyes again at her childish behaviour. I looked at Adam who had a proud grin on his face. He also joined everyone, laughing hard at Sky.

Seeing everyone laughing at her, Skylar ran away and my mom followed her behind. My father growled loudly, making everyone look at him. The whole hall fell silent as he roared loudly at me. But I did not just give up. I stood straight in front of him, holding my head high. He could not ruin everything. Not anymore. And Adam was always right. I needed that stand for myself.

"Well, even if Anny allows me, I can not give it to her. So you better go and deal with Skylar's stupidity." Adam said to my father and I looked at him. I frowned in confusion as I heard his words.

"And why is that? What is so special in that box that you can not give it to Skylar? Is it made of gold or was it sent by the King?" He asked Adam in a taunting tone. I could feel Adam getting angrier. I rubbed his arm to make him look at me. With pleading eyes, I nodded my head.

"No means no, baby girl. I can not." He replied in a stern tone that made everyone submit. But my father did not move a muscle.

"Why?" My father yelled at him. But instead of getting angrier, he just smirked at my father.

"That's because that box was sent by me." We heard a loud dominating voice. The next thing I saw, everyone was on the ground, including my father and my bitchy sister Skylar who was coming towards me to lunge herself at me. I gasped as I looked at our Alpha standing inside our house with his family behind him.

I smoothed down the silver ceremonial dress one last time, my fingers trembling slightly against the simple fabric. It wasn't the elaborate gown that Sophia would likely wear, but it was the best I had—a hand-me-down from my mother's youth, carefully preserved for special occasions. Today was certainly special. Today, Alexander would finally announce our courtship to the allied packs. "You look beautiful, Luna," Rose whispered from her bed, her voice thin but her smile radiant. At thirteen, my sister's wolf-sickness had left her too weak to attend the ceremony, another cruel reminder of our family's fallen status. "I wish you could come with me," I said, sitting beside her on the bed. I pulled out the small leather pouch of protective charms I'd gathered—tiny moonstone beads, dried wolfsbane flowers, and silver thread. "Then I'll be there in spirit." Rose turned, presenting her back to me. "Braid them in?" I worked the charms into her hair with practiced fingers, weaving protection and love into each strand.

The scent of fresh roses filled my car as I drove toward the pack house, excitement bubbling in my chest. My birthday had never been a big deal to Marcus, but eight years together had taught me to create my own joy. I'd left work early, planning to surprise him with the dinner reservation I'd made at Crystal Moon, the upscale restaurant in the neighboring pack's territory. I hummed softly, fingering the mate mark bracelet on my wrist—a silver band with our initials entwined that Marcus had given me when we completed our mate ceremony. The memory made my heart flutter, though the flutter wasn't as strong as it once was. My wolf had been unusually quiet lately, something I attributed to stress from my job at the pack's community center. "He'll be so surprised," I whispered to myself as I pulled into our driveway. The pack house was quiet this afternoon, most members at work or training. Perfect timing. I slipped my key into the lock, careful to be silent.
