Chapter 5

ADAM'S POV:-

I was sitting on one of the couches, reading a book I had brought with me. Leaving my angel in her room, I came back down so she could have her privacy. I knew she needed to learn to live with me. Because I had come back home. My mother was not fine and to make her wish come true, I asked my Alpha to grant me to live with my family.

As the boring party was going on, I busied myself with my book which was a thousand times more interesting than the lamest stories of that bratty bitch, Skylar. To my surprise, things were better ever since I came back. No one seemed to have any sort of problem with me. Not everyone had problems with me except for my angel's father, James. He used to be jealous of me, all the time. But ever since I came back, he seems to be better. In fact, he was way nicer than ever.

"Adam!" I heard James calling me. I looked up from my book towards my brother who was standing in front of me.

"Alpha's messenger, Kara is waiting for you. He came to see you." He said and I looked at the man behind James. I stood up and went towards the man. He was the messenger of Alpha Thomas and me. And his name was Kara. He was only used to convey important messages between the Alpha and me.

"Hi, Kara. What's up?" I asked him while signalling him to walk with me. I took him towards the safer corner of the house. I definitely did not want anything important to be heard by someone brainless. The other siblings I had along with their kids were nice. But James and his bratty bitch, Skylar, they were hell. Not so much for me but my little angel had suffered a lot because of these brainless dofus dad and daughter. Not that the others were nice to her. No one was nice to her except for me and my parents.

"I have brought greetings from the Alpha. I was told to deliver this box to you and the special message by our great Alpha. He said, ``take care of this box until my arrival. I will be there in a few minutes. Don't let any soul know that I will be at your home. Make sure, no one touches the box until the arrival of the Alpha family." He said and my eyes almost popped out of their sockets.

"Wait, our Alpha? He is coming here? At my angel's birthday party? And that too, along with his whole family? Did I miss something or what?" I asked Kara who shrugged his shoulders as if he knew nothing.

"Alpha did not tell me anything else, Beta Adam. He just told me that and then he was yelling at our Luna to be ready in time so they will not be late for the party. He looked very excited. Last I had seen him happy when he had announced you as his Beta." He replied and I just nodded my head. I knew there must be something important in his mind. That was the reason why he decided to come over instead of calling me to the pack house.

"Thank you for your service, messenger Kara. I will take care of everything. You can rest for now." I said and looked around.

"Mick, son, take messenger Kara to one of the guest rooms. He needs to take some rest." I told the son of my second brother, Erik.

"Okay, uncle Adam. This way, messenger Kara." He said and took Kara towards the guest rooms. I sighed and went towards the entrance where a big box, wrapped in a decent but beautiful wrapper, was placed.

"Erik, brother, would you please help me with this box?" I asked as I saw him walking around. He smiled as he always did and came to me, nodding his head.

"That's such a huge box. I bet James has bought something for his princess." He said as he pushed the box inside the house and towards the main hall where the party was held. I shook my head and Erik frowned in confusion.

"This is not for Skylar, I bet. It is a special gift. We will all know soon about that. Let's just see who will get it and what is inside." I told him half of the truth, I avoided telling him the other half. My Alpha had asked me to keep that part of the information for myself only, I had never broken his trust, ever. That was the reason why I was chosen as the Beta of the Blue Moon Pack. Alpha Thomas thought that I was the person he could trust blindly. That was why he chose me to be his right hand. As we settled the box in the corner of the hall, I sighed in relief. It was not just huge, it was heavy as well.

"Oh my gosh! Everyone, look here. My daddy has bought me the biggest gift of all. He loves me more than anyone. Let me open it so you all can see what is inside the box." The brat Skylar said in an excited tone as she saw the box Alpha had sent. Before she could even touch the box, I grabbed her by her arm and pulled her far away from the box.

"That is not for you. You have gotten thousands of boxes. Go and open them. If you dare to even look at that box, I will break your legs at your stupid birthday party. Mark my words." I growled at her in anger. She gritted her teeth and stomped her foot on the floor.

"So you bought it for your slut. Guess what, I like that box and I am going to keep it. Buy something else for your slut." She replied and I grabbed her arm again. This time, I dug my nails in her skin to make my anger and my point clearer for her.

"You listen to me, you little brat. First of all, you call her names and I will rip that little piece of junk out of your mouth. Secondly, if you touch that box… no, if you even look at it, I will kick you out of your comfy bedroom. You will be punished to sleep in the kitchen, where you made Anny sleep for so many nights." I growled at her, this time even angrier than before. She winced in pain, then she started shivering as she heard my angry tone. I pushed her and she went running towards her father to get that box. Or that was what I thought.

SKYLAR'S POV:-

Seeing the hatred in Uncle Adam's eyes for me as always, my chest burned with pain. I ran straight towards my bedroom. I shut the door and sat down on the ground. I did not know why he hated me this much. Once, just once I wanted him to talk to me like he always talked to Anika. Hugging my knees tightly, I started crying.it was not the box or not even the things inside of it.

If he had once given me just a pair of socks, I would be more than happy. But he never brought me anything. He always brought many things for Anika. But nothing for me. I wanted his attention too. I wanted him to buy me something. Maybe a tissue paper. I would not mine at all. But I wanted him to call me just Skylar at once but not brat or bitchy Skylar.

Knowing the fact that he hated me for some reason, it always broke my heart. Once all my tears were out of my system, I stood up and retouched my makeup. Once done, I put on my bitchy smile back and went to my dad. I wanted what he had brought for Anika. I did not care if he would break my legs.

I smoothed down the silver ceremonial dress one last time, my fingers trembling slightly against the simple fabric. It wasn't the elaborate gown that Sophia would likely wear, but it was the best I had—a hand-me-down from my mother's youth, carefully preserved for special occasions. Today was certainly special. Today, Alexander would finally announce our courtship to the allied packs. "You look beautiful, Luna," Rose whispered from her bed, her voice thin but her smile radiant. At thirteen, my sister's wolf-sickness had left her too weak to attend the ceremony, another cruel reminder of our family's fallen status. "I wish you could come with me," I said, sitting beside her on the bed. I pulled out the small leather pouch of protective charms I'd gathered—tiny moonstone beads, dried wolfsbane flowers, and silver thread. "Then I'll be there in spirit." Rose turned, presenting her back to me. "Braid them in?" I worked the charms into her hair with practiced fingers, weaving protection and love into each strand.

My birthday had never been a big deal to Marcus, but eight years together had taught me to create my own joy. I'd left work early, planning to surprise him with the dinner reservation I'd made at Crystal Moon, the upscale restaurant in the neighboring pack's territory. I hummed softly, fingering the mate mark bracelet on my wrist—a silver band with our initials entwined that Marcus had given me when we completed our mate ceremony. The memory made my heart flutter, though the flutter wasn't as strong as it once was. My wolf had been unusually quiet lately, something I attributed to stress from my job at the pack's community center. "He'll be so surprised," I whispered to myself as I pulled into our driveway. The pack house was quiet this afternoon, most members at work or training. Perfect timing. I slipped my key into the lock, careful to be silent.
