His Forsaken Mate: The Vengeance Of The Wolfless Novel Cover

His Forsaken Mate: The Vengeance Of The Wolfless

I woke in the body of a wolfless outcast the instant Alpha Kane rejected her, parading his mistress Flor as the new Luna while the original soul died of a broken bond. Thrown into a freezing cabin to starve, I got a visit from Flor gloating in silk, her guard beating my loyal maid bloody. They saw a weak disgrace destined to die. They never guessed a top-tier biochemist now inhabited that broken girl—one armed with a pocket-dimension laboratory. I infected Flor's dress with custom fungal spores, triggering hives and hallucinations, then paralyzed the Alpha with a single dart when he came to tear out my throat.

Chapter 2

Aubrey POV:

I lay on the rough wooden planks, splinters digging into my back. The soul-deep ache was a constant, grinding hum—a baseline of agony I had to learn to function over. I forced myself to sift through the chaotic, grief-stricken memories of the girl whose body I now inhabited.

I needed data. Weaknesses. Assets.

Most of it was a blur of slights, of being ignored, of the quiet shame of being wolfless. But one memory snagged my attention. A recurring warning from her childhood nursemaid about a mark on her left wrist. A "cursed sign."

I slowly lifted my left arm. The sleeve of the ceremonial dress was torn, exposing my thin wrist to the dim light. There, on the pale skin of my inner wrist, was a mark.

Not a birthmark. Not a scar.

My breath stopped.

The intricate, geometric precision of interlocking circuits stared back at me, rendered in nano-particulate ink. My design. My biometric signature. My failsafe.

My tattoo.

The bio-key I had designed myself. The highest-level security access to my life's work: Nightingale, my mobile, pocket-dimension bio-laboratory.

It was here. With me.

I hadn't lost everything.

A sound escaped me—not a sob. The ragged, half-choked laugh of someone who just found her weapon. Hope was a dangerous, painful thing. But so was I.

I closed my eyes, forced my breathing steady, and spoke the command in my mind.

Access Sequence: Nightingale.

A heartbeat of terrifying silence. Then, a soft blue light bloomed behind my eyelids. A semi-translucent user interface shimmered into existence, visible only to me.

[POCKET DIMENSION STABILIZED. MEDICAL BAY AT 87% FUNCTIONALITY.]

Relief hit so hard my shoulders nearly buckled.

Before I could issue further commands, the heavy bolt on the outside of the door scraped loudly. The door was thrown open with a violent bang, flooding the dark cabin with harsh afternoon light.

A large, broad-shouldered woman filled the doorway. Her face was a mask of sour disapproval, her eyes small and mean. The memories supplied a name: Bertha Kowalski. A cruel overseer who took pleasure in tormenting the pack's weaker members.

She saw me sitting up, and a flicker of surprised annoyance crossed her face.

"Still alive, are we?" she sneered, her voice rough as gravel. "Thought you'd have had the decency to die of shame by now, bitch."

She threw an empty wicker basket onto the floor. It landed with a hollow thud.

"The Alpha's orders. No food for the rejected trash. You can starve while you 'reflect' on your disgrace."

I just watched her, my expression blank. My silence seemed to infuriate her more than any protest could have.

"What's the matter? Cat got your tongue?" She stomped over to the bed, her heavy boots kicking up clouds of dust. "Still think you're going to be Luna?" She reached down and grabbed a handful of my hair, yanking my head back.

Scalp-searing pain shot through me. But my eyes didn't waver from hers. I wasn't looking at a person. I was observing a biological specimen exhibiting predictable aggressive behavior.

That clinical, detached gaze was the final straw. It was a look that didn't acknowledge her power, and it drove her into a rage.

"I'll teach you some respect!" she roared, her face turning a blotchy red. She raised her thick, calloused hand to strike me.

My body reacted on instinct, twisting away. The slap missed my face, but her other hand shot out, grabbing my shoulder in a bruising grip.

With a grunt of effort, she shoved me hard.

I lost my balance. Time seemed to slow as I fell backward, my head on a collision course with the sharp, unforgiving edge of the wooden bedframe.

A sickening crack echoed in the small cabin.

Blackness exploded behind my eyes, followed by a wave of nauseating pain. My consciousness began to fray, the edges dissolving into static.

Bertha saw me go limp. She kicked my leg with the toe of her boot. "Playing dead now, are you? A few days of hunger will sort you out."

She watched me for another moment, a flicker of what might have been fear in her eyes. She hadn't meant to hit me that hard. Satisfied I was truly unconscious, she grumbled under her breath, turned, and stomped out of the cabin.

The door slammed shut. The bolt slid home.

Silence returned.

But in the final, fading moments before the darkness consumed me completely, my fingers twitched. Just barely brushing against the bio-key on my wrist.

With the last spark of my will, I issued a final, desperate command.

Emergency Protocol. Deploy automated nano-med drone. Assess and stabilize host vitals.

The last thing I saw was the faint blue shimmer of the UI, a single confirmation box popping into view.

[PROTOCOL ACTIVATED.]

Then, nothing.
