Chapter 1

When the yacht begins to sink, Penelope Griffith chooses me to fill the last vacant spot on the lifeboat.

I'm saved, but Arthur Johnson drowns before the second lifeboat reaches him. He disappears into the ocean, leaving only a corpse behind.

Penelope pretends not to care and still marries me. Yet, she proceeds to trample all over me during our five years of marriage, blaming me for Arthur's death.

When I can't take it anymore and ask for a divorce, she chooses to end both our lives.

The next time I open my eyes, I realize that I've been transported back in time to the day of the yacht accident.

I decide to forfeit my chance of survival this time, letting the man Penelope loves the most take my place.

"Charlie, get on," Penelope Griffith said to me.

When I noticed that I had travelled back in time, the yacht that we were on was already beginning to sink.

The lifeboat on the yacht only had two vacant spots. Among the three of us, Penelope was the only one who knew how to operate it, so it went without saying that she would occupy one of the seats.

As for the two of us who were left, Penelope ultimately extended her hand toward me after some serious consideration. However, I took a step back, determined to reject Penelope's request.

"You should save Arthur first, Penelope."

I didn't want to shoulder the blame for someone else's death in this life.

Penelope seemed to breathe a sigh of relief upon hearing my words, the deep furrow between her brows smoothing out. She swiftly grabbed Arthur Johnson's hand and dragged him onto the lifeboat.

"I chose to save you first because you're my fiancé, Charlie," she explained. "But since you want to save Arthur first, you'll just have to wait here. I'll bring help to save you. Wait here for me."

She took Arthur away with her after she was done speaking, not even sparing a single glance back at me, as if worried that I would change my mind.

How laughable. Did she think that everyone was like her?

In my past life, Penelope had taken me with her as we escaped the ocean, leaving Arthur alone on the yacht.

The moment we reached land, she immediately contacted the coast guard and asked for help, but Arthur had drowned regardless. His corpse was all that was left when he was fished out of the ocean.

In the beginning, she didn't show any signs of something being amiss when she learned the news. She calmly handled Arthur's funeral matters and donated a large sum of money to the Johnsons to comfort them. Her only request was for Arthur's final resting place to be in a location with beautiful scenery.

Naturally, I didn't deny her wishes. I even asked her if she wanted to push back our wedding date.

However, she had firmly rejected my suggestion. I could still remember how she had gripped my hand, saying, "We have to get married, Charlie!"

I only found out later why she had been so determined to marry me. She wanted to torture me, wanting me to repent for Arthur's death for the rest of my life.

However, I had nothing to do with Arthur's death. I wasn't responsible for his demise.

I immediately began to formulate a plan to save myself as I watched their silhouettes grow smaller in the distance. After all, I had no way of knowing if Penelope would actually bring the coast guard to help me.

In my past life, the one who was stranded on the yacht was her beloved best friend, Arthur. It was why she had made a police report the moment she had a signal on her phone. This time, Arthur was safe by her side, so there was a chance that she would forget all about me.

After all, the man she wanted to save in both lives was Arthur and only Arthur.

Penelope and Arthur grew up together. No one else could compare to him, considering how they had spent so many years together. She had only chosen to save me because she knew that she would be criticized if she saved Arthur first instead of me, her fiance.

It was why she chose to save me instead of Arthur, despite how they had feelings for each other.

Penelope had ended up regretting her choice for the rest of her life, so I decided to make her choice for her in this life. She should be grateful to me.
