From Rejected to Royal Luna Chapter 1
The Northern Territories' grand pavilion loomed before me, its imposing silhouette a stark reminder of everything I'd left behind. Five years. Five years since I'd last stood among the pack hierarchy, since I'd felt the weight of their judgment crushing my spirit. Now I was back, though not as the same broken she-wolf they'd once known.
I adjusted the simple gray dress I'd chosen deliberately, smoothing my hands over the modest fabric. Alexander had frowned when he saw my selection this morning, his golden eyes darkening with concern.
"You don't need to hide who you are, my love," he'd murmured, his fingers tracing the delicate silver mate mark at the base of my neck. "You're Luna of the Royal Lycan Court."
I'd simply kissed him in response. He didn't understand—couldn't understand—that I needed to do this my way. The world would know soon enough who I'd become. For now, this anonymity was my armor.
"Remember, I'll be there by sundown," Alexander had promised, his voice carrying that subtle rumble that made my wolf purr with contentment. "Just a few diplomatic matters to settle first."
I slipped through the entrance, keeping my head lowered as I merged with the crowd of werewolves from dozens of territories. The scents were overwhelming—power, ambition, and politics all mingling into a suffocating cloud. My wolf, once broken but now stronger than ever thanks to our Lycan bond, remained vigilant beneath my skin.
*Stay calm. Stay invisible. Just a few hours until Alexander arrives.*
The reception tent bustled with activity. Alphas and their Lunas paraded in their finery, Betas scurried about handling logistics, and Omegas served refreshments. Without hesitation, I joined the latter group, picking up a crystal pitcher of spring water and beginning to fill empty goblets. No one gave me a second glance—exactly as I'd planned.
My hands worked steadily, my mind elsewhere, when a sharp voice cut through my thoughts.
"Watch where you're going, Omega!"
I blinked, realizing I'd accidentally bumped into someone. A Beta from one of the minor packs stood before me, droplets of water now speckling his immaculate uniform. His face contorted with indignation, but before I could apologize, a hauntingly familiar scent washed over me.
Cedar and smoke. The scent that had once made my heart race with love now made it freeze with dread.
"Still skulking around like a lowly Omega, I see?"
Ryan Carter's voice sliced through me like a blade of ice. I forced myself to look up, meeting the eyes of the man who had shattered my world with a single rejection. He stood taller than I remembered, his Alpha aura radiating arrogance as he surveyed me with cruel amusement. The years had hardened his features, but his eyes—those eyes that had once looked at me with love—now held nothing but contempt.
Beside him stood Victoria, draped in an ostentatious gown dripping with jewels, her arm possessively linked through his. Her lips curled into a venomous smile that didn't reach her cold eyes.
"My goodness," she purred, her voice carrying just loud enough for nearby wolves to hear. "Isn't that the rejected mate? I hardly recognized you without your... what was it again? Oh yes, your wolf."
A ripple of cruel laughter spread through the onlookers. My fingers tightened around the crystal pitcher, my knuckles turning white.
"Such a shame about your weak bloodline," Victoria continued, her eyes gleaming with malice. "Though I suppose it's for the best. The Moonstone Pack could hardly align itself with such... inferior stock."
Ryan's lips twitched with what might have been discomfort, but he made no move to stop her. Instead, he added, "You should know your place by now. Just a rejected mate from the past who couldn't even hold onto her wolf."
The words struck like physical blows. Five years ago, they would have destroyed me completely. Now, they ignited something else entirely—a cold, calculating fury that my wolf echoed with a silent growl.
*If only they knew who stands before them now.*
I could feel my mate mark warming against my skin, a reminder that I was no longer alone, no longer broken. Alexander would arrive soon, and this charade would end. But as Victoria's laughter cut through the air and Ryan's dismissive gaze bore into me, I wondered if I could maintain my composure until then.
The storm was gathering, and soon they would learn what happens when you humiliate the Luna of the Royal Lycan Court.
