Chapter 3

I screamed for help in despair, sweat mixing with the blood from between my legs, freezing into shards of ice against my skin.

The biting cold and the stabbing pain made me wish I were dead. I pounded on the freezer door, desperate for someone to hear me, clinging to even the smallest shred of hope.

Finally, I heard footsteps outside.

My heart leaped. Forcing myself up, I shouted as loudly as I could, “Is anyone there? Please help me! I’m locked inside the freezer! My stomach hurts. I think I’m miscarrying!”

The heavy freezer door creaked open. It was a hospital staff member, whose eyes widened at the sight of me lying on the ground, covered in blood.

His voice shook with fear. “Who are you? This is the Bresses’ private hospital. What did you do to get locked in here for punishment by the boss?”

Suspicious, he didn’t rush to help me.

I dragged myself forward with the last of my strength and explained as best as I could, “I’m Martin’s wife!”

With trembling hands, I reached out and showed him my bloodstained ring.

“This is the token. Only the boss’s wife would have it.”

He squinted at the ring. Finally recognizing it, he quickly pulled out his phone and called Martin.

“Boss, I found your wife in the freezer. She’s covered in blood. Should I take her to the emergency room?”

On the other end, Martin didn’t even hesitate to say, “Nonsense! My wife is in the blood-drawing room. Who dares impersonate her? Drag that imposter out and throw her away!”

“Martin! It’s really me!”

I screamed, even though my voice was hoarse and raspy.

He didn’t recognize me. Instead, he gave a cold laugh before ordering, “I don’t know that woman. She must have snuck in from somewhere. Get rid of her!”

With that, he hung up, not giving me a chance to explain.

The staff member put his phone down and paced. After two rounds, he finally muttered, “You’re pregnant. I can’t just let you die. I’ll do it for the sake of my wife and child. Maybe it’ll bring them some good karma.”

He dragged me out of the freezer and handed me over to a doctor.

At his rescue, tears of relief streamed down my face.

“Doctor, please save my baby. I’m six weeks pregnant, and my stomach really hurts!”

The doctor’s expression darkened as he saw the heavy bleeding. He rushed to wheel me to the emergency room.

However, the ER was already occupied by Tricia.

She lay weakly on the bed, while Martin carefully wiped the sweat from her forehead, speaking to her in a low, gentle voice.

The doctor hesitated and turned to Martin.

“Boss, Ms. Gambino is stable. We should transfer her to a regular ward so we can use the ER for this patient…”

Martin immediately cut him off. “No. Tricia just finished her transfusion. She needs to stay here for observation. I won’t take any risks.”

“But we need the ER—”

“I’ve claimed this room. Without my permission, no one else will use it. If it’s urgent, transfer the other patient to another hospital!”

From outside the wall, I could hear Martin’s cold words. “No matter who it is, I won’t put Tricia in danger. I want everything foolproof!”

I collapsed onto the bed, as if my body had drained of every last ounce of life.

Just then, someone looked toward me in shock.

It was Martin’s assistant, Conrad. His eyes widened as he rushed inside.

“Boss, there’s a woman outside covered in blood. She looks like Madam!”
