Chapter 5

Benson POV "Mate," my deep, cold and sharp growl echoed through the room, my heart racing in a mix of excitement and shock. My wolf surged inside me, desperately yearning to reach his mate, our mate To reach her and hold her close. His excitement was wild, urging me to move, to touch, to claim. At that moment, a thought snapped inside me and i jerked backward like a force had pushed me. The urge to be close to her was slowly consuming me and I didn't understand myself anymore. But how is this possible? Can one have two mates in a lifetime? I just stared at her, my breath caught somewhere between my chest and my throat. Confusion and shock crashed over me, leaving me struggling to stay upright This can't be happening. She can't possibly be my mate. No. The universe wouldn't be that cruel. Yet, as her scent wrapped around me, sweet, intoxicating, impossible to ignore and my heart betrayed me. It thudded wildly, a racing rhythm that screamed the undeniable truth that was before my eyes. "Mine," my wolf howled confidently in my mind. She was mine. Just like how my heart raced and how my wolf jumped in excitement the first time my eyes landed on Daisy. I still remember that sunny day like it was yesterday. She smiled at me and accepted me. But now, I'm here with the alpha Lord wife and the mate bond with her is so strong, leaving me utterly speechless and stunned. This new revelation was about to change my life forever and I hated this new truth. "Alpha," the sharp call behind me made me shift my gaze from Cynthia. "The elders are asking about you. And some of the warriors are injured terribly" I straightened, standing erect and confident as I turned my back to Cynthia and walked to the door but paused again the instant her soft voice reached my ears "When would you be back?" She asked, rising to her feet. I glanced over my shoulder, exhaling deeply then turned back to the hallway, closing the door behind me This wasn't the time to be distracted by a sudden pull with the alpha's lord mate. It's possible I'm the one overthinking these things and I refuse to be distracted by this oblivious bond. ★★★★★ "What's wrong? You've been sighing since we arrived in your study," mark question joltedme back to reality. I turned to him, meeting his curous and worried gaze and opening my mouth to discuss what I had discovered but instantly I hesitated He might think it's ridiculous. He might think I'm stupid and I'm beginning to imagine things. But wasn't that the case? Was I really imagining things? "It's nothing" I concluded, turning my back to him. "That's a lie and I know there's something in your mind so speak up," he insisted, walking back to the door and shutting it behind us. He was right. He indeed knew me too well "its about Cynthia," I started and his gaze moved to his side like he was trying to think about something "And what about her?" he asked, his tone laced with curiosity "is she finally going back?" He added and I couldn't help the chuckle that escaped my lips "i wish," I replied and his brows knitted together in a frown "So what's the issue?" He asked, "This might sound ridiculous but..." I paused, exhaling deeply as I prepared myself to say the most unbelievable and impossible thing "cynthia is my mate," Mark blinked, staring at me like I had grown horns that made me look hideous There was a thick yet comfortable silence in the room and mark didn't say a word. He just looked at me Then suddenly he laughed hard, his right hand wrapped around his stomach as his shoulders jerked hard "Why are you laughing? You think this is a joke?" I asked, my voice sharp and cold. This was important to me. I didn't understand what was going on and it's as if the universe was trying to play a trick on me. "I don't think you're joking. I know you're joking," he managed to say, his laughter echoing in my study I exhaled deeply again then turned my back to him, ignoring him and moving straight to the wooden chair behind the table. "Get out," I ordered sternly, pissed that he thought that this was something to laugh about "Woah alpha," he said with a sharp tone yet his face was like that of one that wanted to burst out laughing anytime. "You need to calm down," "You need to listen to me and stop laughing over this. This is serious and I don't know what's happening," I rose to my feet, banging my fist on the table in fraustration "Okay," he finally said, raising his hands in the air like he was surrendering and then wiping the grin off his lips "Im listening," "I felt the attraction Mark. I felt that familiar pull but this was stronger" "You mean the mate bond?" He asked and I gave a response by nodding my head to give a positive reply. Are you sure?" He asked, doubt laced in his tone But I couldn't blame him. I still couldn't believe it yet and it still looked like a dream to me but I'm know what I felt and I remember it like day "yes I'm sure about this. My wolf even howled for her and I had this sudden yearn to touch her. I know what I felt Mark and I'm not just making this up," "But Daisy is your mate, right?" he asked, disbelief evident in his eyes. He was as surprised as I imagined he would be when I finally told him. "She is clearly my mate," I uttered in confidence "Is it possible for someone to have two mates?" Mark asked and I fan a hand through my hair in fraustration It wasn't possible. One mate for a lifetime and get, here I was with two. "its not possible Mark. Come on you think about it, have you ever heard of someone or maybe our ancestors having two mates? It's has never happened" I explained and he nodded his head continuously in understanding. Mark finally looked at me, his eyes widening "What is it?" I asked, staring at him, my heart racing in fear Did he remember something? Does whatever he remember have something to do with this? "Have you been resting?" He asked, his voice laced down fear and worry The curiosity in me disappeared like thin air and was instantly replaced by a sudden anger "What does that got to do with this?" I asked, glaring daggers at him I needed someone to help me with this sudden impossible attraction I feel for a woman who isn't my mate and here my brother was asking if I've been sleeping. "You need rest Benson and you know this. From Daisy leaving you to the sudden attacks from the rogues maybe has been taking a toll on you and playing with your head. It could be that your body is stressed and that could be the reason why you're making up things in your head" his explanation made my jaw drop. Clearly, He didn't believe me. He certainly felt I was going crazy and needed rest. "Get out," I ordered again, feeling stupid for even discussing this with him in the first place. "I know you're angry and_" I didn't let him finish "Get out," I interrupted again, this time ordering him with my alpha tone and allowing my wolf to the surface. He bowed slightly then turned around, opened the door which made a creaking sound before walking out and shutting it with a soft thud. Standing alone in the study with my thoughts, I ran my right hand through my hair again, feeling the weight of my previous encounter with Cynthia. I needed to know if I was really crazy or if the moon goddess is just trying to play tricks on me.
