Chapter 2

Carla's POV

I've been enduring torture and I know that when they release me to the outside world, I would be able to handle anything. This house is hell itself.

I've never set my eyes on my aunt since she sold me and I don't care. I can't believe I was worth thousands of dollars to her. No one has ever appreciated me.

I wrapped my wounds up and dropped the first aid back to where it was. I stared out of the window and the moon shone brightly making the garden more clear and outstanding to look at. The Smith's mansion was a big one and interesting to look at. The garden is equally more outstanding and a place to ease your worries. People have always wished to take a look at the inside because the outside is amazing. But to me, it's hell. A designed hell! Nothing amazes me in this house anymore. I've been here since I was ten and I'm glad I'm leaving here in three months time.

I'm saving up so I can stand on my feet when I get out there. I've saved up a pretty amount of money and I'm saving more. That's how eager I am to leave this place. And I hope I won't be killed here before then. I hope the remaining months pass out fast so I can get the hell out of this hell. I laid back on the bed and pulled my bedsheet closer to myself. I snuggled up, hugging my knees. I will miss this room when I leave.

I yawned tiredly and sat up immediately. My eyes were tired and bulgy but what to do, I had to get to work immediately. I turned towards my old fashioned clock and my eyes nearly popped out of the socket. It's 7:00 AM. I was supposed to be awake and set to work at 6:00 AM.

Oh My God, I hope nobody is awake yet.

I stood up in a jiffy and ignored the excruciating pain coming from my knees and ankles. I rushed into my bathroom and brushed my mouth thoroughly. I remembered when Nessian complained of my mouth smelling and they both made jest of me. The Luna, Georgia, who is sometimes referred to as Luna Georgia, from her mate's name, Alpha Smith, had to act like I was infected with disease. Since then, I brushed my teeth first before setting out to work. I wouldn't want to ignite her anger by not brushing my teeth.

I walked out of my room hurriedly and walked out of the hallway. I rushed down the stairs heading to the kitchen. Everyone in the house wakes up at either 8 or 9 but I have to wake up before them. And if possible Luna Georgia wakes up now and she sees me in the kitchen, she would believe I have been doing something and that's why I'm rushing there now.

"Where are you rushing to?" The voice and question rang through my ears. I stepped on the hem of my dress due to the fright and fell on the floor. I turned to see Luna Georgia leaning at the dining table giving me an irritable look. I stood up hurriedly and stared at the floor. I dare not look her in the eye. She may find fault in my face.

"G…Good Morning Mm.. Luna." I stuttered. One major issue in our pack is that it's getting infiltrated with modern culture. I'm supposed to address her as My Luna or simply Luna but no one cares about this protocol any longer. Even the Alpha gets called Sir most of the time, even by his sons.

I hope I won't get beaten this morning. Yesterday's beating was still fresh and I wouldn't like to get another beating on top of it.

"I won't repeat my question, Carla." She said, silently. I gasped in fear. What to do? I slumped on the floor and crawled towards her. I held her legs and bowed my head.

"Luna, please forgive me. I would never wake up late again." I pleaded as tears fell from my eyes. She kicked her feet aggressively and I fell back on the floor.

"Get your filthy body away from me."

I stood up immediately, not wasting time, bowing my head while apologizing.

"I'm sorry, Luna." I kept repeating.

"Shut up. Don't damage my ears, Carla." She replied. "Get in the kitchen and start your work. This shouldn't repeat itself again." She said and walked out of the dining room. She headed towards the stairs and I am guessing she's going straight to her room. I sighed in relief and entered the kitchen. I opened the tap and water gushed out. I moved my face closer and splashed water on my face. I took the hem of my clothes and wiped my face dry with it.

With my injuries last night, I managed to do all the dishes and cleaned up the dining table before retiring to bed. I picked up the broom stick and walked towards the living room to dust it. I should wrap it up before 7:30 so I can prepare food early. After preparing food, I will go back to the other domestic chores and clean the house up. And I hope the laundry isn't too much for me to do today because I want to take care of my room today. There are some junks I have to settle.

After some minutes of cleaning the living room, I suspended the rest of the activities and headed towards the kitchen where I started preparing the food immediately. The work here is so stressful. I once asked them to employ another maid to help me but I ended up being beaten. I have to handle all the house chores alone. I've gotten sick so many times but that wasn't an excuse not to work. Whenever I'm sick, I pick myself up and work. Right now, sickness is nothing to me.

"Aren't you done cooking?" Nessian's voice boomed out from the hallway. I shook in fear and turned towards him, bowing slightly to him in respect.

My cousin found me at my own grave and dragged me to a public event, parading me around like a ghost. My uncle, who left me to rot in a hospital, feigned shock. My aunt shrieked that I was a monster for faking my death. Then she lunged, her nails raking across my cheek and drawing blood. "You ungrateful bitch!" she screamed. The crystal glasses clinked as I arranged them carefully on the silver tray. Each one had to be perfectly positioned, not a drop of champagne spilled. Head Omega Theresa's voice cracked like a whip behind me. "Faster, Omega! The guests will be arriving soon, and you're still dawdling with the drinks." I kept my eyes lowered, the way an Omega should. "Yes, ma'am." My shoulder throbbed where Kameron had grabbed me yesterday, demanding I polish Melissa's ceremonial crown until I could see my reflection in it. The bruise was probably purple by now, but I couldn't check. There wasn't time. "The Alpha wants everything perfect for his precious Melissa," Theresa continued, her thin lips curling in what might have been jealousy or contempt. "And you'll make sure it is, or you'll answer to me." I nodded silently, lifting the heavy tray.

The autumn breeze carried the scent of roasted venison across the forest clearing, making my stomach growl painfully. I shifted on the rough mossy log where I sat, trying to ignore the gnawing hunger as I picked at the cold scraps on my wooden plate—leftovers from yesterday's hunt that had been deemed unworthy of the main feast. Around me, the Silverpine Pack celebrated in full swing. Warriors laughed boisterously, families shared platters of steaming food, and pups chased each other through the fallen leaves. No one spared a glance at the lone figure on the outskirts of their joy. After eight years, they'd grown accustomed to my place in the shadows. 'Look at this spread, Marcus! You've outdone yourself.' Amanda's voice sliced through my mind like a blade, her words broadcasting through the pack mind-link. I flinched, nearly dropping my plate as vivid images flooded my consciousness—a private table laden with succulent meats, fresh fruits, and wine in crystal glasses. The Alpha's quarters transformed into a romantic haven with candles and flower petals.
