Fallen Grace Chapter 1

They destroyed me at the altar in front of a thousand witnesses.

My own father called me worthless.

My fiancé branded me a whore.

My stepmother's twisted lies turned my assault into my shame, my pain into their weapon.

Three months later, I was serving drinks to the same people who'd cheered my downfall, my designer gowns replaced by a crop top that barely covered the bruises. Rock bottom, I thought, until I learned it had a basement.

Then he found me.

Viktor Volkov—a name whispered in fear across London's darkest circles. Russian. Dangerous. Powerful enough to crush my tormentors with a single word.

"I've been watching you," he said, his storm-gray eyes seeing straight through to my shattered soul. "You don't belong here."

When he offered me everything—protection, power, and the one thing I craved most—I should have run.

Instead, I took his hand and stepped willingly into the darkness.

They wanted to destroy the innocent girl I used to be?

Perfect. She was weak anyway.

Time to show them what they created.

...

The first bullet of betrayal came wrapped in silk and pearls.

I stood frozen at the altar of St. Paul's Cathedral, my £2 million Givenchy gown suddenly feeling like a shroud as James—my James—stopped walking toward me. Six feet away. Close enough to touch, too far to reach.

The cathedral held its breath. A thousand guests, London's most elite, watched as my fairy-tale crumbled in real time.

"I cannot marry a whore."

His words shattered the silence like gunfire. The ancient stones seemed to reverberate with his disgust as whispers erupted behind me. My legs nearly buckled beneath layers of hand-embroidered lace.

"James," I whispered, my voice barely audible over the sudden roar in my ears. "What are you saying?"

But I already knew. The nightmare I'd buried so deep it felt like someone else's memory—Oxford, second year, the assault I'd never reported—had somehow clawed its way to the surface.

Victoria rose from the front pew with practiced elegance, my stepmother's smile sharp as broken glass. In her manicured hands were photographs that made my blood turn to ice.

"Perhaps these will clarify things," she announced, her voice carrying through the cathedral's perfect acoustics.

The photos passed through the crowd like poison through veins. Me, three years ago, clothes torn and face streaked with tears. But these weren't from that terrible night when I'd been attacked walking back to college. These had been... altered. Staged. Made to look like something willing, something shameful.

"You see," my stepsister Amelia's voice rang out with barely contained glee, "dear Sophie isn't quite the innocent bride she pretends to be."

My father—Richard Harrington, whose family name had graced British society for centuries—looked at me with eyes colder than winter. The calculation I saw there turned my stomach. His reputation versus his daughter.

The choice took him less than a heartbeat.

"Remove her," he commanded, his aristocratic voice carrying absolute finality. "The Harrington family will not be associated with this... scandal."

Security guards—his men, not the cathedral's—materialized at my sides. As rough hands gripped my arms, I caught sight of my reflection in the polished floor: a broken doll in designer lace, discarded the moment she became inconvenient.

"Your accounts have been frozen," one guard informed me with professional coldness. "All cards deactivated. You're no longer welcome at any Harrington property."

The cathedral doors slammed behind me with the finality of a coffin lid. I stood alone on the steps, London's traffic humming below, still wearing a gown worth more than most people's homes, with exactly £300 in emergency cash hidden in my bouquet.

Behind me, I could hear the wedding continuing. James marrying my stepsister instead. The guests pretending this was always the plan.

I was twenty-five years old, and I had just been erased.
