Chapter 2

Clutching my bag, I stood at the door, hesitant to go in.

"Shit!" I cursed, I'm so doomed. Who knew what this Mr. King looked like, was he gonna fire me on the spot?

Just when I was about to go in, the door swung open.

It hit my temple, sending me reeling backwards and landing on my butt to the ground.

Wincing and rubbing my temple in pain, I looked up to the figure that towered above me.

If my frustration was 50 percent before, right now it's at 80, obviously fueled by anger.

Of all people in the world, it had to be this jerk!

I watched him stare down at me, not making a move to give me a hand and I couldn't help but get infuriated.

"Hey!" I yelled up at him. "Can't you see you hit me?" I asked and watched him slowly descend.

Huh? Maybe he wasn't that bad. Was he gonna help me?

Carefully he picked up the papers around me, that had fallen from his hands. I hadn't even noticed.

After picking them up, he slowly began to rise. Bewildered, I stretched forth my hand.

"What are you doing? Help me up!"

He looked at my hands for a brief moment, then rose and walked away.

What? I scoffed and staggered to my feet, dusting myself as I rose.

I turned to face the door and the anxiety that had been overwhelming me returned.

I stepped forward, ready to go in when a chubby woman burst out through the door.

Files in hand, her eyes were all red and teary.

"Hey you okay?" I asked but she just brushed past me.

I gulped. Everyone that left this office seemed to be a mess, I don't think I would like to go in either.

I turned to go then stopped. I was being a coward right now. What will my mother say if she saw me.

I heaved, turned back and walked in, of course the secretary post was empty. I moved on and made to enter the main office when I heard footsteps behind me.

It was the teary faced lady.

She went to the little desk and rummaged through a pile of papers. Just when I was about asking her a question, someone else stepped in.

I turned to see, it was the jerk again.

"Have you found it?"

"No sir." She replied her voice trembling.

Sir? It seems the jerk's her senior. I scratched my head wondering what office and position he held.

"What do you mean you can't find it?" He thundered and I flinched.

"The papers you were given this morning have you shredded them already?"

Numbly she nodded.

"What?"

"Y-ye-yes!" She stammered. "Sir - I - I think, when I went to s-sh-shred the papers I..." She broke off unable to finish her sentence.

"You what? Shredded it as well? Miss Clark there were eight good copies of it don't tell me you've misplaced them."

From where I stood, I watched as the woman wrung her hands in misery. Then I froze, the hairs on my neck were standing, that cold gaze was hovering over me right now.

"Why are you here?"

"Well I, um..."

"Get out!" He ordered cutting me short.

"Excuse me, You can't tell me to leave, I came to see the..." I stopped when I noticed the woman flashing signals my way.

Without hesitating, I turned my back and left.

I was already on my way to the elevator, when my phone buzzed.

I picked it and listened as the woman on the other side rambled on in a tensed voice asking where I was and demanding that I come immediately.

She hung up and I wondered where I had heard that voice before.

Retracting my steps I rushed back to the CEO's office.

The chubby woman stared at me looking a bit shocked on seeing me.

"You're miss Mchan? She asked."

And I gasped, "yes."

"Why didn't you say that earlier?" Why are you late? Hurry on go meet him. You're the reason he's totally upset this morning. Hurry on!" She said as she reached for the intercom.

"She's here!" She spoke into it then turned to me. "Hurry on!"

I nodded and walked in confidently but deep down, I felt that I was going to wet my panties.

"Ms Mchan, what took you so long?" I heard him ask, his voice stern like anything else.

I froze, that voice, how?

"Yes I'm here," I replied and watched him raise his face.

The jerk from last night? I felt like scoffing right now. What was this? A TV show? An opera?

"What are you doing here?"

"I was called and asked to come."

"You're the Mchan?" He asked in disbelief as he ran his eyes over me.

"Yes I am."

"Miss Mchan why are you late? What time is it now?"

I glanced at my watch. "A minute to ten," I said and quickly added, "I can explain the reason I'm late."

Ignoring me, he reached down and retrieved a file, my file.

"Mchan Shelly," he pronounced as he read from my file. Looking up he stared at me briefly then closed my file.

"You can forget about bothering yourself, the door's that way." He said and gestured to the door.

I blinked repeatedly trying to process what was happening.

"Wait, did you just fire me?"

"There are a lot of people striving for this position, Miss Mchan, why shouldn't I give them a chance."

My heart did a double flip in my chest. I was getting fired. No! This can't be happening. What will I tell my mum? How will I explain to her that I lost a spot a lot of people are envying; the CEO's secretary for goodness sake!

"Wait! Wait!" I started, "you can't fire me yet, you haven't even heard the reason I'm late."

"If I remember correctly, you told me earlier this morning." He said and I mentally slapped myself. Darn my mouth.

"But I - that wasn't why I came late."

Silence.

"I - fine! I came late. I sincerely apologize and ask for a second chance, please."

"There's no second chance miss Mchan. You act like nothing you wrote down in your CV."

"What? Everything I wrote down there is true. I would never fake anything."

He tossed my file to the ground. "Take it and get out."

I rushed to snatch it up. "Sir..."

"And tell whoever helped you get this job to stay clear off my path."

"Whoever helped me?" I repeated. "I got this job cause I earned it with my qualifications."

"By qualifications, do you mean, coming late to work, lack of manners and being a whore?"

"What?"

"Miss Mchan, do you really think I would hire a woman who can't separate her work life from her personal life? I need a secretary not a horny whore." He added and I totally lost it.

Marching to his desk I slammed my file on it.

"Speaking of seperating work and personal life, I think you should do that. Horny whore? How did that even come in?"

"Are you challenging me?" He asked, his gaze on me and I stared back not afraid this time.

First he denied me, then he fired me now he was insulting my person.

"Is this what you do with all the women you sleep with?"

"Miss Mchan I won't repeat myself again, I wasn't the man you had your sexual escaped with last night."

"You're shameless!" I thundered. "You aren't even man enough to confront the woman you screwed last night."

"Who said I did?"

"You did Liam!"

He paused for a moment before he spoke. "Are you blind? My name is boldly written on my desk."

I paused. The expression on his face said he was serious. Could it be that I've actually been talking to the wrong person all along.

I took a few steps backwards and read the inscription.

I blinked, stared at it then at him then back at it then again at him.

What on earth was I seeing.

My hands rested on the keyboard, cold and stiff. The hum of the office chatter faded into a dull buzz.
