Chapter 2

I drifted over to Cameron's side. "If you like Zoe, then marry her. Why did you have to date me and then go to her?"

I was standing right in front of him. It was a pity that he could not see me.

He and Dad had both favored Zoe while I was alive. Even when I had become a bag of skin and bones due to weight loss from late-stage breast cancer, they hadn't realized that anything was wrong.

Now that I was dead, they were going to take even less notice of me.

I felt discouraged, so I turned and looked at the wedding dress that Zoe was wearing.

"I put in so much effort to get that wedding dress custom-made, but in the end, you're the one wearing it. Don't you think it's bad luck to wear the clothes of a dead person?"

I would rather tear the wedding dress to pieces than let her wear it!

I tried huffily to tear the wedding dress up.

My hand went right through it, and I realized once again that I was dead.

"I was so spineless when I was alive. I should at least be a vengeful ghost after death so that I can get back at them!"

I sighed heavily.

They had finished trying on the wedding dress and the suit. My dad wanted to go, so my soul drifted off after him.

When my dad got home, he sat on the couch and stared blankly at his phone.

He called me several more times, but unfortunately, no one answered.

He frowned and muttered, "She won't even pick up her phone because she's sulking! All she does is make her elders worry. She's not mature at all, unlike Zoe!"

"I'm already dead. Wouldn't you get a heart attack from fright if I actually did answer?"

I was used to talking back to him, but I felt like I had made a mistake once the words slipped out of my mouth.

"You don't even know that I'm dead."

He would enjoy the silence now that I wasn't around. A couple of years might actually go by without him realizing that I was dead.

My dad would worry if he were out of contact with Zoe even for a couple of minutes.

At that thought, I began feeling pathetic again.

In the following week, I was forced to watch my father dote on Zoe while Cameron and Zoe treated each other lovingly.

It was laughable. I hadn't seen them before I died, but now that I was dead, I couldn't leave.

God really was doing his best to make things sickening for me.

I went up to my father. "You dislike me, don't you? You get angry at the mere sight of me. You want nothing more than to never see me again, right? I hang around every day now. Go and find a priest to get rid of me!"

I would rather disintegrate into nothing than stay with him any longer.

Other fathers would never have been able to bear treating their daughters like that, but he wouldn't have minded since he disliked me so much.

However, I had never experienced the feeling of disintegrating into nothing. I was afraid that it would hurt too much.

I drifted over to Cameron. "Forget it. It would be better if you could find someone to perform death rituals for me. It probably won't hurt too much. I mean, you should just marry Zoe if you like her. Why did you lie to me? It's not like it's the first time that she's stolen a man from me!"

I blabbered on for ages, but neither Cameron nor my father heard a single thing.

All they talked about was Zoe. Had she saved their lives or something?

I was very frustrated, and I cursed at them every day and called them all the names I could think of. I even hung upside down over their heads, hoping that I could materialize someday and scare them. It would be a small way of venting my anger.

However, even that wish was not granted to me.

The day of Cameron and Zoe's wedding came.

Early in the morning that day, social media was filled with reports titled "Professor Wilson succeeds in retrieving memories from the dead". Matthew was due to show everyone his miraculous feat at 10:30 am.

My father and Cameron were unconcerned when they saw the news, as they were busy with the wedding.

Not only was Zoe wearing my wedding dress, but she had even used all my designs for the venue decor. My father and Cameron both knew that I had been the one who had crafted those designs, but they had still agreed.

"Shameless wretch!"

If it weren't for the fact that it was my first time being a ghost and I had no experience at all, I would have tried to stage a resurrection of my corpse!

My father had no idea that I was right beside him. He even gave instructions to the security guards. "If you see Vanessa, you must not let her in here!"

I wanted to scratch him. "I wouldn't have come even if you'd invited me! Do you think I'd want to be here?"

Cameron was speaking to Sasha, who had come to attend the wedding. "I'll explain to Nessa later about my marriage to Zoe. I'm sure she'll understand."

I wanted to hit him. "Understand my foot!"

Sasha was so angry that tears spilled out of her eyes. "You jerks!"

"Don't cry, Sasha! It makes my heart ache!"

I forgot about being angry when I saw her like that. I wanted to wipe her tears away for her, but I had no corporeal form and could not touch her, no matter how hard I tried.

Sasha took out her phone tearfully and held it up in front of Dad and Cameron.

It was the live broadcast of a press conference.

My corpse was on the screen. My eyes were shut tightly, and my corpse was pallid gray.

Sasha had helped me put on my favorite floral-patterned dress.

However, I was just too thin. I was so thin that I looked skeletal. It was terrifying to look at, and there was no beauty in my appearance at all.
