Chapter 1

"Medicine... I need water..."

In a dim, old sixth-floor apartment in South Bronx, a weak voice slowly drifted through the foul-smelling air filled with dust and decay.

Felicity struggled to move her body. The illness had already destroyed her, leaving her in a broken and fragile state. She lay on the floor covered with cardboard, using every ounce of strength she had to crawl toward the glass of water and the medicine bottle placed nearby.

Just as her thin, bony hand was about to reach the medicine bottle, the broken apartment door was kicked open. A snow-white skirt appeared in Felicity's blurry vision, completely out of place in the filthy atmosphere of the rundown apartment.

Eden Ortiz looked down at Felicity's trembling hand reaching out for the medicine and kicked the bottle away without hesitation.

As if she had finally lost all her strength, Felicity collapsed helplessly onto the floor and looked up at Eden.

"Please... give me some money. I need to see a doctor..." Felicity's voice was weak and desperate. "When you first returned to the country, Kayden and I took such good care of you..."

Eden let out a cold laugh and pressed her high heel down hard on Felicity's palm.

Felicity didn't even have the strength to cry out in pain. She only clenched her teeth, her brows tightly furrowed.

"Care for me? Kayden was supposed to be mine from the beginning. I was his first love. I was the person he loved the most!"

Eden withdrew her heel and slowly walked around Felicity, looking at her with satisfaction, as if admiring her own masterpiece.

"Let me tell you the truth. After Kayden found out that Leo died because of your negligence and kicked you out to this place, those street thugs who broke into your apartment and infected you with that disease were sent by me! Hahaha..."

Leo, Felicity's son, had died one year ago because she forgot to close the backyard gate. The playful child ran outside and was accidentally hit by a car.

It had always been the deepest guilt in Felicity's heart. She believed she had failed her son and let down her husband, Kayden Miller.

Suffering from both physical and emotional pain, Felicity could barely think. Her sick body trembled uncontrollably as she felt a metallic taste mixed with thick blood rising in her throat.

"Eden..." She bit the name out unwillingly. "...Why?"

As if still unsatisfied, Eden suddenly kicked Felicity hard in the stomach and whispered with a devilish smile.

"Because you used your family's interests and a marriage arrangement to bind Kayden to you for six whole years. Otherwise, the position of Mrs. Miller would have been mine from the beginning!"

Felicity was completely consumed by pain. She could only writhe helplessly on the cardboard-covered floor.

At that moment, Eden seemed to suddenly remember something. She bent down and looked directly into Felicity's barely open eyes, her face full of malicious delight.

"Haha... you're finally going to die. Then I might as well tell you. I was the one who opened the backyard gate back then. I had already prepared the accident and was just waiting for that playful Leo to run out. I never expected him to cooperate so perfectly and run straight onto the road."

"Kayden found out the truth later too, but... he already had my child, Noah. He didn't care at all."

Leo...He didn't die because of her?

And Kayden...He had actually treated their child like that?

The final surge of adrenaline before death cleared Felicity's mind for a brief moment. She suddenly reached out and grabbed Eden's ankle with all her remaining strength, wishing she could crush her bones and tear her apart.

"What did you say... Leo... my Leo... you... you will pay the price..."

She had never imagined that her six-year marriage with Kayden would be so fragile, so meaningless, that even the death of their child could be ignored so easily.

Eden was frightened by the sudden strength in Felicity's grip. She violently pulled her leg away, causing Felicity to be thrown aside, then stepped back and lifted a hand to brush her hair behind her ear, hiding the panic that flashed across her face.

The sudden movement drained the last bit of strength from Felicity. She collapsed again, lifelessly staring at the ceiling with empty eyes.

She would rather spend her final moments looking at those simple lines above her, slowly feeling her life disappear.

But Eden's twisted, triumphant face deliberately appeared in her fading vision, delivering the final blow.

"Oh, right. Leo was never Kayden's biological son. You shameless woman. You used another man's child to deceive the Miller family for six years!"

What?

Leo wasn't Kayden's biological son?

Then whose child was he?!

The enormous doubt turned into a suffocating pressure in Felicity's chest. At the moment she could no longer endure it, a mouthful of blood suddenly burst from her lips.

Darkness slowly swallowed her vision from the edges. Before Felicity's world completely fell into silence, Eden's demonic laughter continued echoing around her.

If she ever had another chance, she would make this pair of traitors pay the price for her son!

The world spun violently.

A blinding light pierced her eyes, forcing her to frown and open them again.

Felicity was standing in front of the floor-to-ceiling window of a cold-toned master bedroom, still holding the phone in her hand.

"Hello? Felicity, did you hear me? Eden is returning today. I'm going to pick her up. As the mistress of the Miller family, you need to properly welcome this guest who traveled all the way back!"

Eden?

Returning to the country?

The chilling feeling of death slowly faded under the bright sunlight. Felicity had not felt such a healthy body for a very long time.

She looked down at herself in confusion, examining her body, and failed to respond immediately to the voice on the other end of the phone.

"Felicity! What is going on with you today?"

The angry roar finally forced Felicity to accept reality. She had been reborn. She had returned to the day Eden came back to the country.

The day when the tragedy was about to begin.

Felicity looked at the phone screen displaying "Kayden calling" and let out a cold laugh.

"No. I will personally go to Kennedy Airport to pick up Ms. Ortiz as well."

Kayden clearly didn't expect that answer. There was a moment of silence on the other end before he suppressed his anger, though his impatience was still obvious.

"No need. Just stay home and prepare..."

"Your opinion has nothing to do with me. Whatever needs to be prepared, tell the servants yourself. I'm hanging up."

After saying that, Felicity decisively ended the call and skillfully entered another number.

"Sienna." Before marriage, Sienna Vance had been the most trusted person in Soto Industries. He was also an extremely professional case lawyer.

"Ms. Soto, you've finally made up your mind? When are you coming back to continue your career? We're ready whenever you are."

Hearing Sienna's familiar voice and the uncontrollable anticipation in his tone, Felicity froze for a moment. She felt her eyes growing warm.

Back then, although her marriage with Kayden had only been a business arrangement, she accepted Kayden's suggestion for the sake of both families' reputation. She gave up personally managing Soto Industries and devoted herself to handling the Miller family's affairs, down to every flower and plant in the household.

She thought her compromise would earn her the basic respect Kayden should have given their marriage. But Eden's vicious whispers from her previous life still echoed clearly in her mind.

She would never make the same mistake again.

"No. I need a completely new beginning. Draft a divorce agreement immediately. Regarding the division of assets, I only want the portion that belongs to the Soto family name. Send it to JFK Airport in ten minutes."

There was a brief silence on the other end of the phone, but Sienna did not ask any questions. He immediately agreed.

Felicity opened her wardrobe. She did not choose those elegant and dignified dresses she used to wear. Instead, she took out a sharp professional suit from the deepest corner of the closet. After changing, the woman reflected in the mirror looked like an experienced career professional.

Looking at her reflection, Felicity silently made a vow.

Since God had given her another chance, this time she would tear those two people apart and protect her son!
