Dear Dr. Warwick Chapter 1

: The White Moonlight Is Back

Ian Alastair's old flame was back.

Everyone sneered that I'd lost my benefactor.

But I just smiled. I'd grown tired of him long ago.

1

"Nina Kane, Sylvia Sterling is back. It's time for you, the stand-in, to step aside."

I was out spending Ian Alastair's money on a shopping spree when a socialite—one who'd once pursued him and failed—blocked my path.

Now that Ian Alastair's old flame was back, everyone wanted to watch me get kicked to the curb.

To be blunt, they were just jealous I'd managed to stay by Ian Alastair's side for so long.

After all, I was just some unpresentable woman from a minor family, whereas Sylvia Sterling was an entirely different matter.

She was Ian Alastair's childhood sweetheart, his profoundly loved old flame—brilliant, talented, and the one who chose to leave him for her dreams. Such integrity.

"Women always love to indulge in fantasies. Do you think Ian Alastair will just tolerate you if you refuse to leave?" the socialite said with a contemptuous look.

"Nina Kane, do you know what Ian Alastair is doing right now? Sylvia Sterling is sick, and he's been taking care of her these past few days."

As she spoke, as if afraid I wouldn't believe her, the socialite took out a photo of Sylvia Sterling in a hospital room.

In the photo, I looked at the pretty face—it did bear some resemblance to my own. The man beside her was incredibly handsome, his eyes full of adoration as he gazed at her.

Well, well. 'So that's why he hasn't come home these past few days. His old flame is back in his arms, I see.'

But that didn't stop me from maxing out Ian Alastair's card.

My requirements for Ian Alastair were simple: the money had to be good. And obviously, he had held up his end of the deal exceptionally well over the past few years.

I raised an eyebrow as an idea came to mind.

'This is my chance.'

'A legitimate opportunity to dump Ian Alastair.'

The only reason I'd been able to stay by Ian Alastair's side for so long was because I had always been pliant and sensible.

'If I make a scene, Ian Alastair will get annoyed. Then he'll definitely dump me, and he'll give me a hefty compensation package to go with it.'

With that thought, I immediately played along with the socialite, putting on the face of a jilted woman. My finger trembled as I said, "No, Ian would never treat me like this! I'm going to call him and have him come explain himself right now!"

The socialite seemed satisfied, growing even more smug as she said haughtily, "Go on, call him. We'll see if he even picks up."

However, not only did Ian Alastair answer, but his voice was full of affection. "Miss me? Where are you? I'll come pick you up."

"..."

'Absolutely not necessary.'

The socialite was furious, while I just looked innocent. 'This Young Master Alastair doesn't play by the script!'

I clutched the global limited edition handbag Ian Alastair had just gifted me and pursed my lips.

'Don't tell me Young Master Alastair wants to have it both ways?'

'How could I let that happen?'

'I still have to get my payout and walk away.'

...

The next day, I learned that Sylvia Sterling was being discharged from the hospital and that Ian Alastair would be there to pick her up. I put on a very strategic 'no-makeup' makeup look, paired it with a white dress, and transformed myself into the very picture of a delicate, pitiful flower.

I chose my moment carefully, waiting for the hospital room door to open so I could launch my tearful "accusation"!

So, the moment the door opened, I didn't even look at who it was. I just grabbed the person's arm, my voice full of misery.

"How... could you do this to me?"

I don't know if it was my imagination, but after waiting for a long moment, the person didn't react. Just as I was about to look up, I heard an icy voice from behind me.

"Nina Kane, what are you doing?"

I immediately looked up, only to find I had grabbed the wrong person.

Unlike Ian Alastair's cool, aristocratic air, this person was wearing a white coat, and a pair of charming eyes regarded me with a faint, unreadable smile.

"How have I done you wrong?"

"..."

I froze. When I looked back, I was greeted by the sight of Ian Alastair supporting a weak-looking Sylvia Sterling.

The instant my eyes met Sylvia Sterling's, I clearly saw the provocation in her gaze.

'What a chaotic mess...'

'Social death. Right here, right now!'
