Chapter 2

My chest tightened.

I was more than familiar with this person: my best friend, Nate Flint. He was also the only one by my side when I died.

"Christine Leigh, you killed Jason! How the hell could you get a cancer patient to do a liver transplant? And all for that scumbag Henry? You're a monster!"

Nate kicked the door open and grabbed Christine by her collar. The veins on his forehead popped.

Christine looked at him calmly and snickered. "Cancer patient? What a great lie. Jason's act failed, so he got you to come here and put on another act? Just let him die then. Consider it a payment to our family for raising him."

I smiled bitterly.

As expected. I was nothing more than a pet in her eyes.

Nate's gaze darkened. He raised his fist and punched the wall next to her ear.

Christine was so terrified that her face lost all its color.

I was equally stunned, but I immediately knew that Nate was just angry.

"Let go of Christine…" Henry pretended to flip the covers aside and tried to get out of bed.

Nate kicked him. "Shut up! You're just doing this for the money! Christine might be blind, but I'm not! You scumbag! You killed my best friend!"

Christine's gaze darkened. She raised her hand and slapped Nate.

"Nate, enough! If anything happens to Henry, I'll make you pay! If I have to choose between Jason and Henry, I'd let Jason die!"

Her icy words echoed in my ears. I tried hard to keep myself from falling.

At that moment, the security guards rushed in and dragged Nate out.

"Christine, you'd better not regret this! I hope you have a long life so that Jason can haunt you forever!"

I was upset when I looked at the scene.

Christine looked annoyed. Then, she took her phone out and sent me a message.

[Jason, you can stop the disgusting act! All you just want is money, right?]

Then, she wired ten thousand dollars to me.

I might have needed the money for the expensive cancer medication in the past, but I no longer need it.

For the following month, Christine never returned home once. She stayed with Henry until he was discharged.

On the day that he was discharged, Christine called me over and over again, unable to reach me. She started to look impatient.

Then, she left me a voice message.

"Jason, stop this at once! Come and get our luggage. If not, just wait for a divorce!"

I chuckled self-deprecatingly. I was dead. How on earth was I going to answer her call?

Henry pursed his lips, looking hesitant. "Christine, maybe it isn't nice to get Jason to help us with our luggage. He just had surgery, too."

Christine looked annoyed. "You're just too kind, Henry. Trust me. He would want all the opportunities to appear in front of me."

As time went by, Christine's gaze darkened. She never expected that I would defy her.

Thus, she took Henry along and rushed over to my studio. It was the day I was supposed to present my work. She was sure that she would find me there.

I gazed with lingering affection at all the works I had created over the past ten years. After ten years, I could finally show my work.

What a pity. I was so close to achieving my dreams.

Henry's gentle expression slowly turned menacing as he looked at my works all around him. As an artist himself, he was jealous of me.

While Christine was asking my assistant about my whereabouts, he suddenly had an idea and deliberately fell to the side.

With a loud snap, diamonds scattered and fell to the ground.
