Chapter 3

The first work I had ever done for Christine was titled 'The Lover's Heart,' and it was destroyed just like that.

I gritted my teeth as I clenched my fists so hard that they cracked. I wanted to punch that scumbag. Even if I knew he had done it on purpose, I could not do anything about it.

Christine had once said that she was envious of her business rival, who successfully acquired a one-of-a-kind diamond necklace.

So, I worked day and night just to design a unique necklace, The Lover's Heart, just for her. I still remember how she beamed when she received the necklace and how beautiful her smile was.

She said smugly, "Place this necklace in the most prominent place in the studio. I want everyone to know this necklace can only be worn by me. No one else is worthy of touching it!"

I obediently placed the necklace where all could see. I had received countless offers to buy the necklace, but I never sold it.

Every time I looked at it, I would deceive myself once more, telling myself that if I just worked a little harder, Christine would surely fall for me.

So, I lied to myself for ten years.

Yet, at that moment, Christine quickly ran over to Henry and helped him up, looking worried.

"Are you hurt?"

Henry's eyes reddened. He said innocently, "Christine, I'm sorry. I didn't mean to do it. Do you think Jason would get mad?"

Christine replied coolly, "It's just a stupid necklace. Nothing is more important than your body."

Even though I had expected this answer from her, my heart still throbbed in pain.

My assistant opened his mouth but said nothing. Then, he said anxiously, "Jason really isn't here, Ms. Leigh. He hasn't shown himself for a month. It's time for him to go on stage. We're still searching for him."

"Since he isn't here…" Christine raised an eyebrow and sneered. "Great. We'll get Henry to take his place on stage."

Everyone was stunned, and even I looked at her in disbelief. She knew I had been waiting ten years for this exhibition.

Every work there was my blood, sweat, and tears. My babies.

"W…won't Jason be upset at you? I wouldn't want to…"

"It's done," Christine said, interrupting Henry.

Henry looked helpless, but I could see the suppressed delight and excitement gleaming in his eyes.

I shut my eyes and accepted my fate in resignation.

Henry went on stage to accept the spotlight and praises from the media.

Christine, in the audience, was furrowing her brows with a darkened gaze. I knew her well: she was extremely unhappy at that moment.

What else was she unhappy about? She had given the only thing I had left in the world to Henry.

Thanks to her, I had become the thief who stole other people's works and claimed them as my own.

Why was she still unhappy?
