Chapter 2

Raven

“ Rave wait….where are you going.” Viktor yelled as he ran after me.

I was blinking rapidly to stop the tears from flowing. I wasn't mistaken when I heard a woman's voice over the phone yesterday.

He caught up to me and grabbed my wrist.“ Rave…please . She just came to see the twins,I can't deny that.”

I halted and he came to stand in front of me.“ Look…..I know you're mad but you have to understand.”

I wanted to laugh.“ How long has she been here and why didn't you tell me?” My jaw tightened as I waited for his answer.

He ran a hand through his hair.“ She called this morning, and I gave her our address.”

I scoffed,I wanted to believe what he's saying but I felt uneasy inside.“ She suddenly called after five years?” I raised a brow as I stared at him.

He took a step towards me.“ Do you really think that I'll let her back into my life? After she left me without a word. You're my wife Raven and I love you. Nothing can ever change that, not even her. She's here because she begged me to let her see the twins.”

My lips trembled as my eyes watered. I had loved Viktor even when he was still dating Holly and when she got pregnant. I was just a bystander ,watching from afar as they planned to start a life together. I called it fate when she suddenly disappeared after giving birth ,leaving the babies behind.

So I stepped into his life and filled in her space . We've been happy since but now her sudden reappearance was threatening.

He pulled me in for a hug and placed a kiss on my cheek.“Chill out , okay . She'll be gone by the afternoon.”

I sniffed back the tears that threatened to fall. “ I know they are her biological children but I took custody of them a long time ago so let this be the last time she'll ever come here. ”I told him, making sure he could read the seriousness in my tone.

I'm going to protect my family because I know the kind of woman Holly was.

He only nodded as we broke apart.“ Promise me !”

He smiled.“ I promise ,this will be the last.”

I calmed down after that, just a little bit but there was still this lingering uneasiness in my bones. It should go away after some time.

Holly came down stairs ,hand in hand with my daughter's.“ I didn't mean to intrude ,Raven. I just wanted to see my daughters.” She gave me a warm smile.

I didn't return it.“Yeah and this would be the last. You can leave now” I pointed towards the door,my expression blank.

I heard Viktor sigh beside me and I noticed how she made a lingering eye contact with my husband.

She remained rooted in place and then opened her mouth to speak.“I wanted to make some arrangements on—”

" No” I cut her off . I knew what she was going to say.“ Leave!”

She shifted on her feet and then her eyes landed on Viktor again. I don't get why she was making eye contact with him. From the corner of my eyes ,I glanced at him.

I'm not stupid, I knew they were talking through their eyes.“ Leave!” I repeated, finally snapping.

She flinched. “ I just wanted to get to see them at least once a week, they are my children.”

My jaw ticked in annoyance. I stepped towards her and slapped her hands off my daughter's.“ So now they are your children? Because from what I remember ,you abandoned them in the hospital because you didn't want to have ties with a broken man!” I yelled in her face.

I watched as her facial muscles twisted in anger and a satisfied feeling washed over me.“ You can't come here and start claiming them as yours….”

“Raven stop….” Viktor stepped forward.

“No …let me speak ,Viktor!” I countered.“ She obviously doesn't know her place.”

Holly had her fingers curled up in a fists, and I scoffed. Was she going to punch me?

“ get out of my house and don't ever show your face here again.” I gnarled .

" She said just once a week,Rave.” Viktor interjected and I turned to face him.

“ Are you serious, right now?” I sneered,my nostrils flaring. Did he just forget the promise he made roughly thirty seconds ago

He didn't answer me but instead walked towards Holly.“ Please leave for now. I'll talk with her.” He muttered, placing his hands on her shoulders. Their gazes lingered a little longer than they should,I gritted my teeth.

For now? And that hand placement ?

I was fuming as she bent to one knee and placed a kiss on the twins temple, giving them a hug before finally leaving.

She glanced at me one last time before she shut the door.

“ Daddy, when is she coming back?” Maya asked ,looking up to Viktor.

He ruffled her hair.“ Soon, now go to your rooms.”

I closed my eyes, saying a brief prayer to calm myself down. As soon as the twins were out of earshot,he turned to face me.

“ Soon?” I raised a brow as I let out a mocking laughter.

" Just Fridays, two hours.” He stated.

I shook my head.“No…I refuse.”

I walked past him but he grabbed my wrist.“ Rave, put yourself in her shoes. Yes,she made a mistake but she wants to make it up to her children. She asked for just one day, I'm not even home on Fridays so she's going to be with Julie and the kids if you're worried about us being together.”

He was right,Fridays are for staff meetings at the company. He won't be around till almost midnight but still;I don't want her anywhere near my family especially since I would be two hours drive away from home.

I can't put myself in her shoes because I can never abandon my kids or even the father just because he was going through a rough patch at that time.

“ Please….not for her but the kids. They at least deserve to know their real mother.” He continued, spooning me from behind.

The anger I had melted as his warmth engulfed me.“ Then what about me?”

He placed a kiss on my nape.“ You'll forever be the mother of my kids and my wife but let's have pity and give Holly a chance to own up to her mistakes.”

I contemplated even as the uneasiness in my bones grew but I'm also a woman with a heart. I took a deep breath.“ Just two hours, nothing more.”

His hands tightened around me.“ This is why I love you. I promise nothing more.”

He snuggled against my neck and I forced a smile. I feel like I just made a grave mistake but I could only hope that I was wrong.

I love Viktor and he loves me.

That's all that matters ,right?

The afternoon sun spilled across the mahogany desk of our shared office at Heal & Heart, casting a warm, golden hue over the scattered case files. I sat back, running a thumb over the worn edge of my leather journal. Across from me, my mother-in-law, Eleanor, poured a fresh cup of Earl Grey tea. The delicate clink of fine porcelain against the saucer was a familiar, grounding rhythm. "Eighty-eight percent success rate this quarter, Lina," Eleanor murmured, her posture impossibly straight, the very picture of old-money elegance. She took a slow sip, her dark eyes reflecting a quiet pride. "Not bad for a boutique affair intervention firm. Though, frankly, I prefer when we don't have to work at all." I smiled, jotting the statistic down in my journal. "People are complicated, Eleanor. But at least we have our own house in order.

The report revealed that my husband, who had always insisted on remaining child-free, had a three-year-old son elsewhere. Feeling utterly absurd, I handed the report back to Nathan. "If it weren't for the vasectomy you had before we got married, I might have thought this was some kind of cruel joke." To my shock, Nathan confessed it was true—he did have a son and even wanted to bring him home to raise him. I couldn't accept this and asked for a divorce. Our relatives tried to console me, encouraging me to be more accepting. After all, they said, the child was still young and could be loved as our own. I nodded along, resigned, only for Nathan to push things further by bringing his mistress into our home as well. "Laurel is Matheo's mother, and at his age, he needs her," Nathan argued. "Besides, she's a qualified nutritionist who can help us improve our diet." Standing in the doorway, looking at the cozy scene of the three of them in the living room, I felt like my blood was boiling.
