Chapter 3

Raven

I stuffed the last of my books into the trunk of my car. They are the reason I came back home actually.I need my books and thank goodness I did or I would not have found out about Holly.

“ Bye mummy?” Leah waved at me and I picked her up.

“ I'll be back soon ,okay.” I placed a kiss on her cheeks and put her down.

Maya didn't make a move, she's the bubbly type ; always wanting hugs and cuddles now she's looking reserved.

I ignored her resistance to my picking her up and placed a kiss on her cheeks.“ I'll visit often.” I told her hoping to make her smile but she just remained blank.

A pained smile spread across my lips as I put her down. She'll get over it, hopefully. I bid my family goodbye one more time before hitting the road.

By the time I got to my dorm ,the maple tree was being cut down . I was so relieved to see that the security finally heed my pleas. Now,I just need to change my lock.

I pressed in my passcode and the door clicked open. I had my earpods on to block out the loud noise coming from the chainsaw.

I paused as the familiar and dreaded cologne hit my nostrils. Why was the scent hear,it's fucking broadday light!

I wanted to back out of the room and call security but the next moment I heard a click behind me.

My breath got caught in my throat as I remained rooted to the ground. I could feel the menacing presence behind me ,even with Charlie Puth's music blasting in my ears.

My windows were locked, the curtains were drawn, the door was locked and he was behind me. Even if I screamed, no one would hear me over the blaring chainsaw.

I felt his presence come closer, the smell of sandalwood filling my nostrils again. My stomach twisted in horror and my survival instincts kicked in.

I bolted towards the window,if I could open the curtains and yell then someone should see me but I hadn't even made three steps when my feet lifted off the floor with a gloved hand pressed over my mouth ,muffling down my screams.

I was thrown roughly on the bed,and a huge figure towered above me. Tears trickled down my cheeks as my whole body thrashed about trying to free myself.

He held me in place and for the first time I could see his eyes clearly. They were grey like smoke,He had only his eyes exposed,a hoodie over his head but a mass of black hair peeking through.

Slowly ,he let go of my mouth and straddled me,kneeling on my palms on both sides of the bed.

“ Please….” I groaned,pain ripping through my arm muscles.

I couldn't move an inch. He brought his arm to my face, grazing a finger along my cheek. I tilted my face away,a sob escaping my lips.

“ Let me go…..is it money you want? I can give you any amount, just name your price!” I stuttered desperately as I started to panic.

He started trailing his fingers down my neckline. I gasped for breath as he moved further downwards.

“ Stop!…..I'm going to tell the cops. ” Then I started yelling but my voice got muffled by the noise coming from the chainsaw and falling branches.

He removed the glove from his right hand and the moment his bare hands touched my skin ,I shuddered. His fingers were cold . He dipped his hands into my button up shirt and into my bra.

“ Fucking stop!.....please.” I screamed,my heart hammering so loudly against my chest.

His fingers grazed my nipple and it sent waves of electricity to my brain mixed with fear of what he was going to do to me.

He continued rubbing circles on the bud,his grey eyes never leaving mine. I fought it,I fought hard to not feel the sensation of pleasure but I'm only human.

“Get your hands off my breast ... .you pervert. I'm reporting to the cops ,I'm telling my husband….I'm…” He suddenly chuckled.

The first sound he made was raw and terrifying. He bent forward, our forehead almost touching as he continued his assault.

My body shouldn't be reacting this way, like his touch was familiar, like I was enjoying this because I wasn't . He was harassing me without my consent and I hate it. I hate that I was helplessing letting my body respond.

It's not right .

His breath fanned my cheeks as he bent closer and then he spoke. Barely audible but I heard him clearly.“I bet he doesn't touch you like this.”

My cheeks burned and the next instant ,I forced my head forward, head butting him in the nose. He let out a low growl, massaged his face with the other hand on my breast turning still.

“ Get.Off.Me!” I snarled,gathering what courage I have left.

He stared at me briefly and then continued with his movement, this time removing the gloves in his other hand and reaching for my second breast.

A cry left my lips as his cold fingers pinched on both nipples. He unbuttoned my shirt and took off my bra in a matter of seconds. My breast bounced free, his palm squeezing on the soft flesh.

I fought back a moan because this was so wrong. I know my body was reacting so quickly because Viktor and I haven't had sex in a long time. He's been busy with work and I've been busy with my internship.

“Don't….”I paused because he suddenly looked to the closed windows.I then realised that the loud chainsaw had stopped rattling.

This was my chance to scream for help. Our eyes jammed and a smirk appeared on my lips as I opened my mouth to scream.

He pressed his palm against my mouth before I could let out a sound and I bite down on it as hard as I could. He didn't let go but I saw his eyes narrowed.

His other hand came up to my neck, choking me. My voice died down as he lifted me off the bed and carried me to the door. He dropped me to the floor and left the room, shutting the door.

I coughed, trying to catch my breath and I trudged to the window.

I opened it and started yelling ,waving my hands at the security downstairs hoping they'll hear me and catch that lunatic. He can't make it out of the building in under five minutes.

The security heard me and looked up.

“ Thank God.” I gasped in joy. But they turned away the moment they looked up.

I kept yelling, waving my hand and wondering why they suddenly turned their backs until I realized that my tits were out.

Crap !

I just showed a bunch of men my nipples.

The afternoon sun spilled across the mahogany desk of our shared office at Heal & Heart, casting a warm, golden hue over the scattered case files. I sat back, running a thumb over the worn edge of my leather journal. Across from me, my mother-in-law, Eleanor, poured a fresh cup of Earl Grey tea. The delicate clink of fine porcelain against the saucer was a familiar, grounding rhythm. "Eighty-eight percent success rate this quarter, Lina," Eleanor murmured, her posture impossibly straight, the very picture of old-money elegance. She took a slow sip, her dark eyes reflecting a quiet pride. "Not bad for a boutique affair intervention firm. Though, frankly, I prefer when we don't have to work at all." I smiled, jotting the statistic down in my journal. "People are complicated, Eleanor. But at least we have our own house in order.

The report revealed that my husband, who had always insisted on remaining child-free, had a three-year-old son elsewhere. Feeling utterly absurd, I handed the report back to Nathan. "If it weren't for the vasectomy you had before we got married, I might have thought this was some kind of cruel joke." To my shock, Nathan confessed it was true—he did have a son and even wanted to bring him home to raise him. I couldn't accept this and asked for a divorce. Our relatives tried to console me, encouraging me to be more accepting. After all, they said, the child was still young and could be loved as our own. I nodded along, resigned, only for Nathan to push things further by bringing his mistress into our home as well. "Laurel is Matheo's mother, and at his age, he needs her," Nathan argued. "Besides, she's a qualified nutritionist who can help us improve our diet." Standing in the doorway, looking at the cozy scene of the three of them in the living room, I felt like my blood was boiling.

I kept my eyes fixed on the marble floor, studying the intricate patterns rather than meeting their pitying glances. Ten years. Nine failed ceremonies. This was supposed to be different. William had promised.
