Chapter 1

" Mom, why are you here?" His cold voice reverberated inside the luxurious sitting room as he ascended the stairs, his hands tucked inside his tuxedo suit like a Greek god. From the crown of his head to the sole of his feet, this man embodies the divine essence of a Greek god. His countenance radiates an ethereal glow as if touched by the golden rays of Apollo himself. " Don't I have the right to be here?" the woman who was seated on one of the sofas said with her brows creased. " You should at least let me know before coming, you always come at the wrong time" he muttered the last part but she still heard what he said, so she scoffed. The opulent sitting room exudes elegance and refinement. Adorned with velvet drapes in deep jewel tones, the room is bathed in a warm, golden glow from the crystal chandelier above. A grand fireplace, framed by carved marble, crackles with a comforting fire, casting dancing shadows on the plush Persian rug below. The walls were covered in richly textured damask wallpaper. They are adorned with gilded mirrors and exquisite oil paint. Luxurious silk cushions, embroidered with gold thread. It makes the guests sink into the embrace of the velvet sofas and armchairs, upholstered in the finest brocade. Mrs Royals looked around the luxurious sitting room before sitting on the sofa which was facing him directly. " Don't you get tired of being alone?" She asked but he ignored her question by rolling his eyes nonchalantly. " I am talking to you Henry Royals!" She half yelled, her face flushed with anger and sadness. " Not now Mom," he groaned before checking his expensive and flashy wristwatch. " I need to go right now. I have some business to attend to" he muttered, straightened his tie, and walked out on his mum. " Don't tell me you're walking out on me, Henry?" She asked as she stood up, grabbed her bag, and walked after him to the parking lots. She wasn't ready to let him go if he didn't give in to her request. For Christ's sake! He will be 26 years in a few weeks, how come he doesn't have a girlfriend let alone a wife? Such a workaholic! " What does it seem like I am doing? He asked without looking back as he walked to his sleek black Lamborghini Aventador. " You're no longer a kid Henry!" " Mom! I am just twenty-nine years okay? So let me off the hook already" he rolled his eyes and opened the car's door but his mom grabbed the door and shut it immediately with a loud bang making Henry flinch a little, then he closed his eyes and inhaled. " You're going nowhere if you don't set a date to show me your fiancee or rather your wife," Mrs. Royals said in a serious tone. Mrs. Royals, in her mid-forties, possesses a captivating beauty that radiates from within. Her lustrous blonde hair frames a vibrant and confident face. She is dressed in a fitted red gown that hugs her curves, effortlessly highlighting her graceful silhouette. Perfectly paired with a black designer bag and a pair of beautiful red heels. Her heels kept making faint thuds as she followed Henry to the parking lot, she wasn't giving up so easily. " Are you ready to leave the house or we should both remain here? After all, my schedule is cleared, you're the only one with business appointments. So, if you want to leave here, do as I say." she smirked and Henry scoffed. " Mom! Really! You're delaying my meeting, I have some clients to attend to for heaven's sake!" He groaned but Mrs. Royals wasn't ready to listen to him as she held the car's door firmly making Henry release a frustrating sigh. " Okay, just give me some time, I will find a wife for myself" " Same old stories, you keep telling me the same old stories. How many times have you told me that? No! no! Don't answer it, I will do it myself" she smirked before continuing. " This is the one thousand and one times you've told me this, so it's no more an excuse, you're free to come up with another one." " Why do I have such a crazy woman as my mother?" Henry muttered as he rubbed his temples in nothing but frustration. His mom was hell-bent on frustrating his entire life. " I heard that," she said still clicking her heels on the floored ground. " Fine! Fine! Just give me a month, I promise to find a beautiful and elegant wife" Henry said feigning a smile. His mom is the only person who has ever seen his smile because he rarely smiles. He has this dangerous aura around him that makes people fear him. " I won't buy that! It's just one of your numerous lies just so I could let you off the hook, but trust me, dear son, I won't let you fool me with your lies." " I promise Mom," he said with pleading eyes. He was running late and the only thing he could think of was to plead so she could let him go. This woman in front of him is the woman he loves so much, she means the whole world to him and he can't trade her for the world. She is certainly the best thing that has ever happened to him. " I won't fall for your pleading face" She rolled her eyes once again. " Mom, if you keep rolling your eyes repeatedly, they might fall off from the sockets," he said and she scoffed. " That's none of your business, is it?" She asked and he sighed. " It seems you aren't ready to go" " Okay! Fine! If I don't bring a wife after one month, then you're free to get me one yourself" " Is that a promise?" " Yes it is, so can I leave now? Henry asked and she immediately let go of the car's door and he got in. " Don't test my patience Henry Royals!" She shouted as his car drove speedily out of the mansion. " Such a crazy woman" he smiled and drove off to his company. DOLPHIN GROUP OF COMPANIES " You're welcome sir" The staff all stood up to greet Henry when he walked in but as usual, he had a straight and cold face on, ignoring all their greetings. He walked straight to his office without sparing any of the staff a glance, and it was quite amusing that everyone had gotten accustomed to his coldness and nonchalance towards them, yet they still never stopped greeting him for once. Henry sat down on his swivel chair and took the telephone which was neatly placed close to his laptop. Because he hates dirt and disorder. He punched a number on the telephone and placed it on his ear. " Come to my office now" his authoritative voice could send shivers down anybody close by, and without waiting for a reply, he hung up and concentrated back on his laptop. A few minutes later, a guy dressed in a suit walked in. His name is Reece Hawkins, his manager and personal assistant. " Good morning Mr Henry" Reece greeted and Henry nodded without looking up, his eyes were fixed on his laptop. Reece knew better than to push on with his greetings, everyone knew how cold Henry was and he barely talked during board meetings. Some staff often referred to him as a cold-blooded boss, because of how cold and arrogant he could be. " How busy is my day?" " The investors from Moreno oil company will be here in an hour, and also you have a meeting with the clients from Wellington....." Reece kept reading from the tablet he was holding till he was done. When Reece was done, Henry exhaled loudly before relaxing his back on the swivel chair. " Sir, should I cancel your meeting with the investors from Moreno Oil Company?" Reece asked with hesitation in his voice because of the look Henry immediately cast on him He immediately clasped his mouth shut, he knew better than to annoy the devil. " Did I complain to you?" Henry raised his brows, giving Reece a questioning glare. " I thought you were tired of going to different meetings" Reece muttered almost impossible for anyone to hear but Henry heard it. " Are you tired of your job?" He asked and Reece immediately shook his head. " Prepare all that I need for the meeting with Moreno Oil Company and also prepare my meeting with the clients from Wellington," he said and returned his focus to his laptop. Reece left his office and shut the door behind him, and almost immediately he let out the breath he was holding since he walked into Henry's office. " Such a scary man."

Then I saw his Maybach shaking in the cemetery parking lot. Through a crack in the window, I heard the man I loved whispering to my stepsister, Tiffany. "Don't worry about the broke princess. Once I secure her voting proxy for the trust, I'm dumping her." Tiffany laughed, clutching the scarlet coat she'd charged to my own maxed-out credit card. "She's so pathetic, Julian. She actually thinks you love her." I didn't scream; I recorded them. But when I tried to use that leverage, my family turned into vipers. To protect Julian's status, they framed me for causing Tiffany to miscarry a fake pregnancy and planted stolen documents in my bag. My own father stood by as they locked me in a room, planning to sell me to a predatory creditor named Hightower to settle his gambling debts. I ended up in a freezing police cell, my ankle shattered and my reputation destroyed. I sat on that metal bench, shivering as I realized my own blood had traded my life for a check. I called the only man powerful enough to burn them all-Julian's uncle, the "Butcher of Wall Street," Alden Stark. The phone just kept ringing. He wasn't coming. To the world, I was just a walking bankruptcy filing, a girl who had finally run out of luck. I didn't wait for a savior. I escaped custody and ran barefoot through the rain, leaving a trail of blood on the marble floor of Stark Tower. When I collapsed at Alden's feet, he didn't look at me with pity; he looked at me like a rare, damaged artifact he finally owned. "Inform the board that this is my fiancée," he announced, lifting me into his arms. I signed the marriage contract that night, trading my freedom for the power to ensure my family's liabilities exceeded their assets for the rest of their natural lives.
