Chapter 4

Dera was scared at first, but soon she found herself slowly shifting too. Gray glared at them, wishing Dera would beat Sienna. He was ready to defend her in case the fight took another turn.

"What were you expecting before?" Dera mocked. "You didn't want him to touch his mate, but to come touch you, old girl?" Sienna was five years old, she was more mature in appearance which made Dera refer to her as an old girl.

She scanned her body with prideful eyes then turned to look with disgust at Sienna's. Her eyes were enough to pass on what she had in mind. Dera was mocking Sienna, showing her how young and beautiful she was.

This, she did before she completely shifted to her radiant brown wolf.

Just then the Beta arrived to tell Gray important news only to catch the side of both Sienna and Dera in their wolf form. It was a crime to shift inside the estate. Shifting could be done outside.

"What's happening here?" He growled. He was surprised to see the Alpha watch this without saying anything.

"Hey, stop. You two." He moved towards them to pull them apart but Gray grabbed him from behind, pushing him away.

"Who's asking you to pull them apart? Are you crazy?"

Fred stared at Gray with a puzzled gaze. Shifting was prohibited inside, the rule was even made by Alpha Gary himself.

“You will not get away with this!” His Beta snapped at him and walked away. He stormed out of the room, he couldn't contend with Alpha Gray's recent behavior.

Sienna was about to storm out too when Gray grabbed her violently.

“How dare you treat my fated mate this way? Do you know she's greater than you in rank right now?”

This was the last thing Sienna expected to hear. What she thought was happening right in front of her.

"But you said your mate doesn't stop me from being the Luna of this pack?" She reminded him with a smirk on her face. She was about to cry but seeing that Gray would be happy to see her hurt, she held back her tears. Instead of a tear, she held a smirk.

"How is that even possible when I've found my heart?"

"So you believed?" He chuckled, folding his arms across his chest.

"Oh God!" Sienna exclaimed, raising her hands to her head. She looked at both of them with a cold smile, not saying a word.

His conscience hit him hard, even amid his disgust towards Sienna, he was pushed to talk gently with her.

“I promise to hold you dear by my side, but my wolf beats for Dera. She's my mate and as the Alpha, I need her. I'm sorry, I can't help." He walked away from her to Dera. He draped his hand over Dera's shoulders, turned, and pulled her into a tight hug.

"I'm pretty sure I'll be removed as Luna soon, it's already obvious!" She shut her eyes so tight to prevent her from seeing Gray hugging Dera. She rose from the ground.

“Dera is here to stay. Perish whatever thought you have against her. You'll only be chasing after the wind!" Gray growled before leading Dera inside his bedroom.

"I don't want to see these when I come out," he pointed to the fruits on the floor. With this, he slammed the door hard in her face.

Sienna remained there.

It didn't take long when she began to hear moans and groans coming from inside the room.

"Gosh! They are making out while I'm here, standing like a fool!"

She stormed off, kicking at the fruits to scatter more. She warned all of her maids not to touch it. She wanted to see what Gray would do when he eventually came out.

"I wouldn't turn to their slave, not in this house!"

"So sad! When someone you have becomes someone you used to have." Sienna sighed, as she climbed into her bed. Thoughts of Gray and Dera making love recreated in her head. She tried to wipe it away, but it persisted.

It seemed this was the new tempest she had to battle with, she didn't know for how long.

"So I'm not included in his future?" She sighed.

As she lay on the bed, she heard a knock on the door. This was three hours later.

"Come on, open this door!" It was the Alpha. "Why didn't you clean up that mess on the floor?"

Sienna rose, walking to the door. She leaned on it without opening it. "Ask your mate to do that for you, she dropped it, so she has to clean it."

With this, she returned to her bed. Pulling her headphones over her ear, she folded her arms across her chest wilding away time while listening to music. Gray was at the door knocking, not knowing she wasn't even hearing.

"I have to punish her so hard so all this disrespect would end!" Dera balled her fist in support, she held a sinister grin on her lips.

Towards the evening, it was time for the President of the Alpha Council to visit. Carla, Sienna's cousin, had made a post about the Alpha taking a new mate after he promised not to. She tagged the president in the post which got him to see it eventually.

She had made a promise to her cousin, and she had to fulfill it.

For the dinner which was an honor to welcome him, everyone had to be present. The Alpha was sitting with his mate, Dera. The Beta and Gamma with their mates were also present and three other senior members of the family were in attendance.

Sienna arrived late. There was no seat in place for her, the Alpha didn't order for an extra seat. Even though Patrick was the President of the Alpha council, he was under Gray's control. This was the secret Carla didn't know but Sienna knew.

"What's wrong between both of you?" He asked, deviating from Gray who was meant to be the center of focus.

The harvest moon hung low over the Silvermoon Pack territory, casting silver shadows across the celebration grounds. I stood at the edge of the main hall, clipboard in hand, watching Grant move through the crowd with the natural grace of a born leader. My heart did that familiar flutter every time his deep laugh carried across the room, every time he threw his head back in genuine amusement at something one of the visiting dignitaries said. Stop it, Harper. You're his assistant, nothing more. But then his eyes would find mine across the room, holding my gaze for just a moment too long, and my carefully constructed walls would crumble. Tonight felt different somehow. The air between us crackled with something electric, something dangerous. "Harper." His voice, warm and commanding, made me jump. I hadn't heard him approach.

The bell above the door of *The Gilded Claw* chimed softly as I stepped inside, the scent of sage and old parchment washing over me. It was a stark contrast to the sterile, modern smell of the Silver Lake Pack House, and for a moment, I let my shoulders drop. Here, amidst the dusty relics and enchanted trinkets, I didn't have to be the trembling, wolfless Omega everyone thought I was. "Miss Hayes," the shopkeeper, an elderly warlock named Elias, greeted me with a bow that was far too deep for a girl in faded jeans and a thrift-store sweater. His milky eyes lingered on me, seeing something no one else in this town bothered to look for. "Your commission is ready." He placed a velvet box on the counter. I opened it, my breath hitching. Inside lay a dagger forged from pure moonstone, the blade shimmering with an iridescent glow that seemed to pulse in time with my own heartbeat. It was a courting gift. A promise.

Just because I accidentally spilled hot water on Bailee Rose, my mate’s Beta, he locked me in the pack’s sauna for eight hours. Right before I lost consciousness, Rhys Kennedy, the Alpha of the Crimson Fang Pack, finally sent someone to get me out. He stood over me, his towering frame casting a shadow, his voice low and commanding, “This is just a small lesson. If I ever see you hurt Bailee again, next time, it won’t be this easy for you.” I lay on the stretcher, my body weak but my voice steady. “Alright,” I said, knowing better than to argue with an Alpha. ============================== On the day I was discharged, I stood outside the packhouse and overheard lively chatter inside. The voices carried through the open windows, sharp and mocking. “Alpha Rhys, if you dislike Adelaide so much, why not just reject her?” Colin Harris, a Gamma in the pack, asked smugly. Rhys made a noise of irritation, his deep voice rumbling. “My mother, the Luna, insists that only Adelaide can initiate the rejection.

The first rays of dawn filtered through the silk curtains of my room in the pack house, painting everything in shades of gold and rose. Today was the day. After ten years of waiting, of growing together, of building something beautiful from childhood friendship into destined love, Elian and I would finally complete our mate ceremony. I stretched beneath the covers, my hand instinctively moving to rest on my still-flat stomach. The pregnancy was so new that even I could barely believe it—a miracle, Dr. Mitchell had called it, given the rarity of Alpha fertility. The timing felt perfect, like the Moon Goddess herself had blessed our union with this gift. Downstairs, I could hear the bustling activity that had started before sunrise. Pack members moved with purpose through the corridors, their voices carrying excitement and warmth. The ceremonial grounds behind the pack house would be transformed into something magical by evening, with white flowers and silver ribbons honoring the Moon Goddess who had brought Elian and me together all those years ago.

I found out Axton had taken a mate when their child was already born. In the pack hall, his friend Stefan asked him how he planned to explain it to me. He just scoffed: “It’s natural for a future Alpha to have a mate and a chosen companion. She has no right to demand an explanation from me.” “Besides, Victoria is possessive. It’s better not to tell her yet, or she might do something reckless to harm my child.” We’d grown up together, and three years ago, I left for a pack ceremony. He promised me, “It’ll always be just you and me. When you return, we’ll have our mark ceremony.” This time, I didn’t cry or beg him to explain why he’d broken his promise. I turned and left, accepting the mate bond with Josue Cruz. Finally, I let go of my love for him. ......

The baby kicked inside me as I sat alone in our barely furnished quarters, my hands resting on my swollen belly. Today was my birthday—not that it mattered to anyone in the Silvercrest Pack. Especially not to Bear. I glanced at the clock for the hundredth time. 8:17 PM. The pack house across the grounds was lit up like a Christmas tree, laughter and music floating through the evening air. Someone was having a celebration tonight. "Did you hear about the Alpha Summit gala?" A female voice drifted through my open window—two pack members chatting as they passed by. "Katherine looks stunning in that new designer dress. Alpha Bear spared no expense." My stomach tightened.
