Chapter 7

Daphne

Two days had already past, and the Alpha has not summoned me again. I just wished that he would never ask for me ever again.

The injuries were gradually healing, and him summoning me again would refresh the wound. I just wished I could turn back the hands of time, and won’t have to lose my mother to the cruel hands of death. Probably, if she was still alive, there was no way I’d go to stay with my heartless father and his wife.

My mind was still clouded with thoughts when I heard the doorknob twist. My heart skipped a beat.

What if it’s a guard whose going to tell me that the master wants me?

I was visibly shaking. The door creaked open, and madam Dorothy walked in. As usual, she came to give me the concoction again.

Without saying a word, I took the cup from her and gulped down the content of the cup. I was already used to it. A servant walked in with a tray of covered plates and a glass of water.

My stomach grumbled as I sighted the plate. At least, I eat here even if I was given little food that won’t even be enough for a two-year-old child. It was much better than when I lived with my father.

“You’ll be getting your uniform today, Daphne. Eat quickly, then we can go meet the tailor downstairs.” Madam Dorothy smiled at me.

My eyes grew with curiosity. I couldn’t help but ask. “Uniform? Why do I need a uniform?”

“The pack house is so big, and since you’re new here, getting you a uniform will help to get you identified.” She snapped.

Nodding my head, I grabbed the plate and opened it. The aroma of the mashed potatoes made my mouth water. Surprisingly, this was the first time I was giving a different kind of food… I was already used to eating the tough tasteless bread they give me all the time.

Madam Dorothy left the room, and I continued eating hungrily.

As soon as I was done eating, I headed downstairs as I was instructed. I stared around the mansion in amazement, that was my first time of living the room where I was always locked up.

After taking my body measurements, I just had to wait downstairs until the tailor was done. I changed into the uniform, and they all stared at me. For some reason, I felt uncomfortable with the way they were all staring at me.

“Ma’am Dorothy, do I look that awful that you all are staring at me like that?” I asked, biting my lip hard. Actually, it came out like a whisper, but she was very close to me so she heard me loud and clear.

With that, she smiled at me. I can’t tell why, but I always feel safe with her around me. Probably because she has always been kind to me ever since I met her. “Silly girl, you look gorgeous in your new uniform that’s why we’re all looking at you. It’s a look of admiration, Daphne.” She said, and I found myself smiling too.

Apart from the cruel Alpha, I think every other person is cool to me. All I wished for was not to get called by the Alpha ever again.

JORDAN

I stood at the balcony upstairs, staring at my breeder while she changed into her new uniform. The way she talks, her manner of behavior seemed so unique.

Ever since I had s·x with her, the pain that I usually feel hasn’t come again. What could be so special about her. Who exactly is she?

“Beta, who is she? What is her name?” I asked with my eyes still fixed on her. I just couldn’t take my eyes off her, I needed to see why she was so special among all the girls that I’ve made out with.

Beta Theo was still busy with the file he was looking at, so the question got him confused. With arched eyebrows, he asked. “Who is that?”

“Her.” I didn’t point at her, but my eyes never blinked or take my eyes off her, so with the way, my eyes were fixed on her, he was able to tell who I was asking about.

Perplexed, he answered. “Your breeder, my alpha.”

“What does that mean? I’m not blind, Theo. I know she’s my new breeder, but I just asked who exactly is she? What’s her name?” I snapped at him.

Actually, I know absolutely nothing about her. I don’t even know her name or where she was bought from. All I needed was a breeder to bear my pup, and Theo was responsible for getting one for me. I have never had interest in women, and that’s because I don’t believe in love. From childhood, I’ve always been a heartless monster. Love is nothing but a weakness, and I can’t subject myself to weakness. The news of me being a demon is not new.

I am feared and respected all over West Region. No Alpha dared to get in my bad book. I’m known as ruthless. All I ever wanted was just a pup to take over when I get older. If not for the fact that I required a son to take over the pack, I would never have anything to do with women. As a matter of fact, she happened to be my 6th breeder. Everyone doubts she would last since the ones before her couldn’t take it anymore, they ran for their lives even with the so much money I offered them.

“Her name is Daphne Knight, my Alpha. I’m sorry, I don’t have all the details about her. That’s because you never asked or wanted to know about the breeders I had found for you in the past.” Theo responded.

Taking a deep breath, I replied, still staring at her. “I want you to find out everything there is to know about… what’s her name again?” I raised my brows, turning my gaze at him.

“Daphne Knight, My Alpha.” He reminded me, and I nodded in agreement.

“Find out everything about Daphne Knight. You must not omit any detail. Also find out why she was sold by her family.” I said in a cold voice, and Theo bowed slightly.

I continued staring at her until she was led out by Madam Dorothy. To my greatest surprise, I found myself smiling… which is very strange and rare. How can a monster like me smile?

“Daphne Knight, who the hell are you?” I asked no one in particular with my eyes narrowed.

I smoothed the tablecloth one last time, adjusting the crystal glasses I'd saved for months to buy. Twenty-one candles flickered across my tiny apartment, casting dancing shadows against the walls of what was essentially a glorified closet in the pack house. But tonight, I'd transformed it into something special. Something worthy of an Alpha. Something worthy of Kai. The wolfsbane-seasoned steak sizzled on the serving platter – his favorite. My nose twitched at the pungent aroma, my throat already beginning to constrict from proximity to the herb that most wolves could enjoy but left me with hives and difficulty breathing. A small price to pay for his smile. "Perfect timing," I whispered to myself, glancing at the clock. Nine o'clock.

My mate and I decided to undergo a pack ritual to conceive because of his low fertility. Just before the ceremony, I discovered that he had conspired to replace my eggs with those of his long-lost mate, Bianca Barnes. I didn’t say a word—I simply switched the eggs back. While I was at it, I replaced his essence with that of my true mate, Josiah Ruiz. Now, twenty-five years later, Bianca stands before me, tears streaming down her face, claiming to be Izabella’s mother: “My darling daughter, I’m your real mom!” ============================== Izabella and I had just returned from an international pack alliance meeting when we were met with a scene straight out of a rogue’s tale. The grand hall of the Ruiz Packhouse was bustling with distant relatives who never usually paid us visits—all gathered as if for a grand celebration. At the center of it all was Bianca Barnes, seated on the Alpha’s throne, putting on a melodramatic performance worthy of a rogue’s den. Drake Arnold, the rogue I had once allowed to pose as my mate, was doting on her, his concern etched on his face like a poorly written prophecy. I raised an eyebrow, parked my suitcase to the side, and leveled my gaze at him. “What’s the occasion, Drake?” I asked, my voice calm but laced with the authority of a Luna.
I Carried His Heir But Rejected His Lies Novel Cover

During the eight months I carried our pup, Dominick and his Beta, Anne, booked hotel rooms nearly two hundred times. I knew, of course. Every whisper, every lingering glance, every scent of her on his clothes—they all screamed betrayal. But I chose to ignore it, focusing instead on the life growing inside me. The pup was precious, a future heir to the Silver Moon Pack, and I refused to let Dominick’s infidelity tarnish that. Still, the night before my due date, as I stood in the shadows of the packhouse stairwell, I overheard Dominick’s voice, low and reassuring, carrying through the cold air. "Relax, Anne. We used your essence in the ritual, so the pup won’t inherit Bridget’s weakness. Once the pup arrives safely, I’ll reject her. Just give me a little more time, alright?" His words struck me like a claw to the chest, tearing open old wounds and leaving them raw.

You have to know where to look, who to ask. I'd done all of that for him. For us. The Silverfang packhouse was full tonight. My Alpha Made Me Bear His Mistress’s Child Novel Cover

I have been Luna of the Ironveil Pack for ten years. I know how to smile at the right moment, how to place a hand on a visiting Alpha's arm just long enough to soften his pride without threatening his ego, how to read a room full of wolves who would tear each other apart if the seating chart were wrong by one chair. Tonight, at the Winter Solstice Pack Banquet, I do all of it perfectly. The great hall is warm with candlelight and the low roar of conversation. Ironveil's ranked members fill the long tables in their finest clothes, and the visiting Alphas from three neighboring packs sit at the head table with Grayson. I move through the room like water — here to redirect a tension between two Betas before it becomes a scene, there to laugh at exactly the right moment when old Alpha Mercer makes his tired joke about the northern border. I wear a deep green dress that Grayson chose. My hair is up. The mark on my neck is visible, the way it always is at formal events. Grayson looks magnificent tonight.

The rain hits our territory like the Moon Goddess herself is weeping, each drop sharp as ice against the packhouse windows. I press my face to the glass, watching the storm tear through the forest with a violence that makes my wolf whimper deep in my chest. "Stella." Henry's voice cuts through the howling wind, flat and commanding. "We're taking the SUV for patrol." I turn from the window to find my fated mate pulling on his leather jacket, Caleb beside him already dressed for the weather. The sight of them together—so alike with their dark hair and strong Alpha jawlines—still makes my heart skip, even after all these years. "In this storm?" The words slip out before I can stop them. "Henry, it's dangerous out there. The roads—" "Are pack territory." His amber eyes flash with irritation. "We know our own land, Stella. The borders need checking after weather like this." Caleb doesn't even look at me as he zips up his coat.
