Ten years. Ten years of my life given to this man, to this pack, to this mate bond that I thought was sacred. I stood frozen in the doorway of our bedroom, watching as Lucas adjusted his tie in the mirror, his broad shoulders squared with the confidence of an Alpha who had never doubted his worth. "Are you ready for tonight?" I asked softly, smoothing down the silk dress I'd chosen for our anniversary dinner. "The pack is gathering in the main hall." Lucas barely glanced my way. "Change of plans, Naomi. We're not attending." My fingers stilled on the fabric. "What? But it's our tenth anniversary. The entire pack has prepared—" "I've made my decision." Betrayed Mate Finds Freedom Chapter 1

"The pack is gathering in the main hall."

Lucas barely glanced my way. "Change of plans, Naomi. We're not attending."

My fingers stilled on the fabric. "What? But it's our tenth anniversary. The entire pack has prepared—"

"I've made my decision." His tone carried that familiar edge of finality that brooked no argument. "You should rest tonight. You've been... fragile lately."

Fragile. The word stung like a slap. I'd endured his mother's ritual of dancing barefoot on broken glass last month without complaint. I'd continued my Luna duties despite the blood disorder that made even small cuts dangerous. And now, on our anniversary, I was being dismissed as fragile.

Before I could respond, voices echoed from downstairs. Lucas straightened, a smile spreading across his face—the kind of smile I hadn't seen directed at me in years.

"They're here," he said, almost to himself.

I followed him downstairs, my heart pounding with a strange foreboding. The pack members gathered in the foyer fell silent as we descended, their eyes darting between Lucas and me with uncomfortable glances.

And then I saw her.

A young woman with honey-blonde hair and delicate features that mirrored my own stood beside Lucas. Her hand rested possessively on his arm, and when she smiled up at him, something inside me shattered.

"This is Elodie Brooks," Lucas announced to the pack. "She'll be staying with us indefinitely. Naomi needs rest, and Elodie will be helping with some Luna duties while Naomi recovers."

The room spun slightly. "Lucas," I whispered, "what are you doing?"

He didn't even look at me. "The pack needs to understand that Elodie is to be treated with the same respect as our Luna."

Our Luna. Not his Luna. Our Luna. The distinction cut deeper than any claw.

---

Three days later, I found her in my private chamber—the one place I thought was still mine alone. Elodie stood before my ceremonial wardrobe, her fingers trailing over the delicate Luna robes I'd worn for a decade.

"These are quite lovely," she said without turning. "Though they could use some updating."

Before I could stop her, she grabbed the silver scissors from my sewing table and began cutting. The sound of fabric tearing filled the room as she systematically destroyed each robe, each veil, each piece of my Luna heritage.

"Stop!" I cried, lunging forward. "Those are sacred!"

She turned then, her eyes gleaming with something dangerous. "Sacred? Oh, I hardly think so." She moved to my jewelry box next, pulling out the Luna pendant Lucas had given me on our first anniversary.

With deliberate slowness, she dropped it to the floor and crushed it beneath her heel.

"Elodie!" I gasped, reaching for the broken pieces.

"Don't touch me!" she snapped, then immediately softened her voice as footsteps approached. Lucas appeared in the doorway, his expression darkening as he surveyed the scene.

"What happened?" he demanded.

"She destroyed everything," I said, holding up the broken pendant. "My ceremonial robes, my jewelry—"

"I was just trying to help clean," Elodie said, tears welling in her eyes. "I'm so clumsy, and Naomi was so angry..."

Lucas's gaze hardened as it fell on me. "Naomi, you need to be more understanding. Elodie is trying to help."

"Help?" I echoed in disbelief.

"Yes, help," he said firmly. "And you will make her feel welcome, won't you?"

---

The pack clinic was silent except for the soft beeping of machines. Dr. Elena's face was carefully neutral as she reviewed the test results, but I could see the discomfort in her eyes.

"You're both pregnant," she confirmed, looking between me and Elodie.

The room seemed to tilt. I was carrying Lucas's heir—the future Alpha of Silvermoon Pack.

Elodie's hand rested protectively over her still-flat stomach. "How wonderful," she breathed, her eyes finding Lucas's. "Our baby..."

Lucas's expression transformed with joy as he looked at Elodie. Then his gaze fell on me, and that joy vanished.

"Naomi," he said, his voice cold and decisive. "You will schedule a termination immediately."

My blood ran cold. "What?"

"Your blood disorder makes pregnancy dangerous," he said flatly. "And Elodie needs to be my sole focus right now."

"But this is your heir," I whispered, my hand instinctively moving to my stomach. "Our child—"

"Schedule it," he repeated, turning away. "Tomorrow."

As he walked out with Elodie clinging to his arm, I caught Dr. Elena's horrified expression. She knew what this would do to me—not just physically with my condition, but to my very soul.

The mate bond that had sustained me for ten years was unraveling before my eyes, and with it, the last fragments of my heart.

Alpha Unveils True Mate Novel Cover

The Inter-Pack Summit's grand hall glowed with ceremonial torches, casting dramatic shadows across the faces of the most powerful Alphas in the region. I stood at the entrance, my silver aura radiating outward in controlled waves—not a display of emotion, but a calculated reminder of the Silvermoon Pack's strength under my leadership. Marcus positioned himself precisely one step behind me and to my right, his presence a silent comfort through our private mind-link. *They're all watching for weakness,* he observed, his thoughts flowing into mine with familiar ease. *Then they'll find none,* I replied, scanning the room with measured indifference. Alpha Kaelen Blackwood approached first, his dark eyes evaluating me with the same predatory calculation I recognized in myself. "Alpha Victoria," he greeted, inclining his head just slightly enough to acknowledge my status without suggesting submission. "Your champion has brought considerable attention to the Silvermoon territory." "As intended," I replied coolly, the subtle tap of my index finger against my thigh the only outward sign of my strategic assessment. Ryan Mitchell had indeed brought attention—attention I had meticulously orchestrated over five years of investment. The rogue I'd salvaged from starvation had been molded into a weapon that now represented Silvermoon dominance in combat.

I splashed cold water on my face and brushed my teeth, studying my reflection. My skin glowed despite the nausea, and my wolf seemed unusually protective, urging me to rest more, eat better. All the signs were there. "We need to be sure before we tell him," I whispered to Lily, who hummed in agreement. I padded back to our bedroom, noticing Ryan had left his laptop open on his desk. He'd rushed out before dawn for an emergency meeting with neighboring packs—at least that's what he'd said.
