The pounding in my head felt like a sledgehammer against my skull as I rummaged through Grayson's medical bag, searching desperately for aspirin. Another one of those migraines that had been plaguing me for weeks, the kind that made the world blur at the edges and left me nauseous. My fingers brushed against the familiar orange prescription bottle tucked deep in the side pocket. Strange—I'd never seen Grayson keep anything there before. The label made my blood run cold: *Birth Control Pills - Norethindrone 0.35mg. Patient: Elizabeth Rose Dean.* The bottle slipped from my trembling fingers, pills scattering across the hardwood floor like tiny white accusations. Each one seemed to mock me, whispering the truth I'd been too blind to see. For two years, every morning, Grayson had handed me those small pink tablets with his gentle smile, telling me they were fertility supplements to help us conceive. "Liz? What's wrong?" Grayson's voice came from behind me, but it sounded distant, muffled by the roaring in my ears.

Betrayed by Husband's Love Chapter 1

The pounding in my head felt like a sledgehammer against my skull as I rummaged through Grayson's medical bag, searching desperately for aspirin. Another one of those migraines that had been plaguing me for weeks, the kind that made the world blur at the edges and left me nauseous.

My fingers brushed against the familiar orange prescription bottle tucked deep in the side pocket. Strange—I'd never seen Grayson keep anything there before. The label made my blood run cold: *Birth Control Pills - Norethindrone 0.35mg. Patient: Elizabeth Rose Dean.*

The bottle slipped from my trembling fingers, pills scattering across the hardwood floor like tiny white accusations.

I turned slowly, the empty bottle clutched in my fist. His face went ashen when he saw what I was holding. The practiced composure he wore like armor cracked, revealing something raw and guilty underneath.

"How long?" My voice came out as a whisper, barely audible over my thundering heartbeat.

"Elizabeth, let me explain—"

"How long have you been lying to me?" The words erupted from somewhere deep in my chest, a place I'd kept locked away for too long.

Grayson's hands shook as he reached toward me, then dropped to his sides when I stepped back. "Two years. But you have to understand—"

"Two years." The number felt like a physical blow. "Two years of telling me something was wrong with my body. Two years of me thinking I was failing as a wife because I couldn't give you a child."

"It wasn't supposed to happen like this." His voice cracked, and for the first time in our marriage, I saw him completely unraveled. "Cataleya... she needed me. She's always needed me more than anyone else."

The name hit me like a slap. "Your foster sister? What does she have to do with—" The pieces clicked into place with sickening clarity. "Oh God. You wanted her to have your baby."

Grayson's silence was answer enough.

"While I was taking pills to prevent pregnancy, thinking they would help me conceive, you were planning to have a child with her." Each word tasted like poison on my tongue. "Every time we were intimate, every conversation about our future family, every moment I blamed myself for not getting pregnant—it was all a lie."

"I love you, Elizabeth. I do. But Cataleya has been through so much, and she—"

"She what? She needed to carry your child more than your wife did?" I laughed, a harsh, broken sound that didn't belong to me. "How could you do this? How could you watch me cry month after month, thinking there was something wrong with me?"

"I was protecting you!" The words burst from him like a dam breaking. "You don't understand what she's like when she doesn't get what she wants. She's fragile, Elizabeth. Damaged. I couldn't risk—"

"You couldn't risk what? Her throwing a tantrum? So instead you decided to destroy your wife's trust, her body, her dreams?" I threw the bottle at his feet, pills bouncing and rolling across the floor. "You're a doctor, Grayson. You took an oath to do no harm, and you've been systematically poisoning me for two years."

The front door clicked open, and I heard Cataleya's familiar laugh echoing through the hallway. Perfect timing, as always. She appeared in the doorway, her dark hair perfectly styled, her hand resting protectively over her still-flat stomach in a gesture that made my blood freeze.

"Oh." She looked between us, taking in the scattered pills, Grayson's devastated expression, and my tear-streaked face. Her lips curved into the slightest smile. "I guess she finally figured it out."

"Cataleya, please—" Grayson started, but she silenced him with a raised hand.

"It's okay, Gray. She was bound to find out eventually." She stepped closer, her eyes never leaving mine. "Especially now that I'm three months along with your baby."

The words hit me like a physical blow, stealing the breath from my lungs. Three months. While I'd been taking his fake fertility pills, believing we were trying to start our family, she'd already been carrying his child for three months.

"Congratulations," I whispered, my voice hollow. "You both got exactly what you wanted."

The morning light filtered through our penthouse windows, casting golden patterns across the Egyptian cotton sheets. I stirred slowly, consciousness returning in gentle waves. Seven years. Seven years of what I believed was perfect love. "Happy anniversary, my only one," Gabriel's voice caressed my ear as he entered our bedroom, a silver breakfast tray balanced in his hands. His dark hair was slightly disheveled, giving him that boyish charm that still made my heart flutter. "You didn't have to," I murmured, sitting up against the headboard as the scent of fresh croissants and coffee filled the air. "For you, I want to do everything." He set the tray down and sat beside me, his fingers brushing mine as he handed me a steaming cup. No redness appeared on his skin, no hives, no shortness of breath—just the miracle of his touch, reserved only for me. The condition that had brought us together.
