Chapter 4

BENJAMIN'S POV:-

I was sitting in my classroom, thinking about the things my friends had told me. After a while, I decided to go with the idea. No one was getting hurt with that. I called Joe and asked him to set a meeting for me with the man Charlotte was involved with. My classes ended earlier. So I decided to go to the office so my father could be released earlier. A light knock on the door of my office pulled me out of the piles of papers that were sitting in front of me.

I looked up and Joe stepped into the office along with a guy. He looked macho. Big muscles at that age, messy hair, and light beard to show off to the women. I couldn't understand what Charlotte might have seen in him.

I gestured to him to come and sit. He looked at me with a confused look on his face. And I could see the terror in his eyes as well. He quietly came toward my desk and took a seat. My phone buzzed. I grabbed my phone. Joe had sent me all the information about that man. And the reason why he was with Charlotte.

He looked a little different when he was with Charlotte. He dressed like a decent man. He didn't have that toothpick in his mouth. And his hair was also neatly trimmed and styled. I couldn't help the smirk that appeared on my face for no reason. Looked like Charlotte had a specific taste.

She liked sophistication. And she made sure nothing around her was anything less than elegant. "What's your name?" I asked him in a low tone.

"Arnold Shaw, Sir!" He replied in a respectful tone.

"Do you know why you are here today?" I was looking at his face, trying to read his facial expressions to know whether he was lying or not.

"I have no idea why I am here." He spoke and the way he awkwardly smiled, I knew he was lying through his teeth.

"You know, I hate liars. And if you want to have a future in this city, I would prefer you not to lie to me. Or I will make sure you will end up being a stripper in a low class bar." I threatened him calmly. But it was enough to shake his soul.

"Please, forgive me. I was out of the line. I know why I am here." He begged almost instantly. I couldn't help but scoff at him.

"She must have spent years shaping him up. Yet, the second day without her and he is a total jerk. What a loser!" I thought while staring at the man in front of me.

"Good! I want to know everything that you know about Charlotte. I don't care how big or small. I want to know all about her personal life." I asked him in a low tone and he was staring at me with a confused look on his face.

He was such a loser, he couldn't even understand that I was asking about his relationship with Charlotte and the personal details of their relationship. "I want to know all about your relationship, you idiot. What was she like? How did she like it? Now do you understand or should I add the word sex in my questions as well?" I asked him in an annoyed tone.

"Oh! You mean if we ever… you got it all wrong, Mr LeBlanc. Touching her, I couldn't even think about it in my dreams. Touching her one thing, she didn't even let me kiss her. She was a freak. All after the wedding. You should wait. I don't want to be a sinner." He started telling me of her thoughts over the sexual relationship and I couldn't help but be surprised by her thoughts.

"What do you mean? Why would she say all those things?" I asked and he almost laughed out loud.

"She is a religious freak. That's why. People visit church once a week or if they have confession. She goes to church every day for no reason. She says she can't let any man touch her until she is married." He replied and my smirk grew bigger. My friends and I thought it was impossible for a woman like her to exist in the twenty-first century. Yet here she was.

She was like a mighty royal Princess. Men could look at her but the only man who could touch her, would be her husband. "I am the only one who can touch her." The thought made my chest grow wider with pride.

"Alright then, now tell me why you were with her. You don't look like a patient guy. In fact, you are one of the men who would taste a woman and move forward the next day." I asked him and he suddenly went pale. He definitely didn't want me to know his secret.

Joe pushed his chair a little and he jumped. "Isn't it obvious? She is stunning, elegant and loaded. I thought I could have the business after marriage since her father left it for her. But she gave it to her brother." He replied and I could only shake my head in disappointment. Men like him sickened me.

"But you still stayed with her! Why?" I asked, I knew there was more to that story.

"You are right. I would have broken it off the same day I learned that she gave her business to her brother. But then I heard her plans for the future. She is a born genius. She wants to become a lawyer. Do you know geniuses like her, they play with gold and pearls in that field." He replied to my question and I raised an eyebrow at him.

I grabbed my cheque book and signed a cheque for him. "I am paying you extra to humiliate Emily the same way she is humiliating my wife in front of everyone. I just want you to tell the truth out loud." I informed him as I added an extra zero to the total sum.

He looked at the cheque and I saw him drooling like a dog. "What if I refused to tell everyone that Charlotte didn't let me touch or kiss her?" He boldly asked me. The moment I turned my glare in his direction, he zipped his mouth.

"Then Joe will take you to somewhere quiet. Tie you up and let strippers use your body until they want. While Joe will be filming everything. And once done, Joe will upload the video on the internet. So you can earn more money." I threatened him with what he feared the most. Joe did his homework well as always.

The fear in Arnold's eyes was enough for me to know that he was never gonna try and go against me ever again. I looked at Joe and Joe nodded his head. He pulled Arnold on his feet again and dragged him out of my office. I stood up and walked towards the glass wall behind me.

I could see the evening sun turning soft. And I somehow felt a little similar from inside. I never thought that there would be a woman in my life that could challenge me in such a way. I was flabbergasted the moment she started crying when I asked her about her relationship with her boyfriend. I didn't understand her back then but I knew what I actually did that offended her.

Her virginity, her purity, those were the most expensive jewels that she wore with pride. And I actually attacked her precious jewels. I was not sure why I was smiling. I married that woman to turn her life into hell as revenge for that slap that humiliated me in front of my school and every single friend of mine. And here I was, turning into heaven already.

My phone started ringing and I growled in annoyance. I grabbed my phone and my mother's name was flashing on the screen. I picked up the call. "What is it?" I asked my mother, sitting back on my chair.

"What is it? Your wife! She left you already. And what have you been doing? Nothing at all." My mother yelled at me from the other side of the line and I growled in anger.

"What the fuck are you talking about?" I asked my mother and she began crying.

"Right after you left for the university, she left after you with a bag. I tried to stop her but she didn't listen to me. She called me names like bitch and lazy dead beat. And then she left." She replied while crying crazily. I gritted my teeth angrily and threw the phone on the ground.

"Joe! Get the car ready. We are going to the Morin mansion. That fucking gambler needs to know what's it like to take something that belongs to me." I growled loudly, knowing well that Joe was standing in front of my office. I gathered my things and exited my office, fuming in anger.

I sat alone at my long marble dining table, staring at a plate of cold truffle risotto. My husband, Jere, was late again, claiming he was stuck in a "war zone" of a board meeting for a multi-billion dollar merger. A single Instagram notification shattered the silence. It was a photo of a candlelit birthday dinner, featuring a man's hand resting on a white tablecloth. I recognized the slight veins, the jagged scar on the thumb, and the navy-faced Patek Philippe watch I had spent six months tracking down as a wedding gift. Jere wasn't in a boardroom; he was celebrating his ex-girlfriend Irina's birthday while texting me to "don't wait up." The next morning, I followed him to a VIP hospital wing. I watched through a cracked door as my husband cuddled a five-year-old boy and whispered tender promises to Irina. When he came home, he tried to buy my silence with a rare pink diamond bracelet, but I found the receipt: he had bought two identical ones. He had branded his wife and his mistress with matching jewelry, using hidden trackers to keep us both on a leash. When I confronted him, he didn't flinch. He coldly reminded me that he owned my father's massive debts and could send him to prison for insolvency fraud with one phone call. "Stop with the attitude, Deliah," he said. I felt like a ghost haunting my own life, trapped in a gilded cage by the man who paid for my mother's heart surgery while keeping a secret family across town. The humiliation peaked at our rescheduled anniversary dinner when Jere received a text, threw a stack of hundreds at me like I was a stranger, and abandoned me in a crowded restaurant to rush back to her. "Pay the bill," he commanded before walking out. Standing in the wreckage of a shattered crystal vase back at the penthouse, I realized my silence was the only thing keeping his empire standing. I pulled the crumpled divorce papers from my purse and signed my name with a steady hand. I wasn't just walking away; I was calling his sister to help me burn his perfect world to the ground.

The fluorescent lights buzzed overhead as I stared at the proposal on my computer screen, my eyes burning from hours of proofreading. The Sterling Tech subsidiary office had emptied hours ago, leaving me alone with the gentle hum of the air conditioning and the occasional ping from the security guard's desk downstairs. I glanced at my watch—11:43 PM. Michael should have been done with the corporate gala by now. He'd promised to call when it ended at ten, but my phone remained silent, its screen dark and accusatory on my desk. "Just one more page," I whispered to myself, massaging my temples. I'd been doing this for seven years—polishing Michael's presentations, fixing grammatical errors in his proposals, making sure every comma was in place so he could shine in front of the board. Tonight was no different, except for the heaviness in my chest that had been growing over the past few months. I saved the document and sent it to Michael's email, adding a simple note: *All done. Hope the gala went well.* No kiss emoji, no terms of endearment.
