Chapter 2

BENJAMIN'S POV:-

I was sitting in a casino. Despite my interest in gambling, I just sat at the bar, gulping down sips after sips of the whiskey. "That girl! That fucking lowlife girl! She had the audacity to turn me down. And then, she decided to smack me. Who does she think she really is?" I growled under my breath.

I was careful, though. Last thing I wanted was for more people to know that some crazy little bitch was able to smack me. No woman had ever turned me down. Women threw themselves in my bed, just so they could get a piece of me. They could kneel before me, humiliate themselves just so I would notice them.

Every single time I blinked my eyes, I saw her slapping me. I gulped down the bitter content I had in the glass. Its bitterness did nothing to relieve the bitterness I felt in my chest for that damned woman. Joe, the in charge of my security group appeared behind me. "Did you find out what I asked you?" I asked without even looking at him.

"Yes, Master Benjamin. Her name is Charlotte Morin. She is a proud girl, born with a genius mind." Joe replied and I squeezed the glass on my hand.

"Morin, you say! Why does this name sound so familiar?" I asked in a low tone.

"She is the daughter of Brad Morin. Because of her smartness, her father left everything to her. But she gave everything to her brother the day she turned 18." Joe added and I smirked mischievously.

"I guess she is not that smart after all." I growled. I called the bartender, asking for a refill. Just then, I heard something that made me turn around.

"Mr Morin, you are doing amazing today. I think it is your lucky day."

"Should I call it a coincidence or fate?" I thought as a devilish plan started forming in my mind. I gestured to Joe to lean in.

"Make someone sit on that table and have them play from my side. Inform the manager not to let Morin win at any cost." Joe bowed his head and walked away, carrying my order to the manager.

A few minutes later, Kyson, the Manager's son, joined the table. He was too good with the casino games. Very soon, I saw Morin's face turning pale. He was losing every bit of money that he had won.

One thing could fail my plan if he chose to leave once he would be out. But he was definitely not that smart. He stayed until he was in deep debt. My smirk deepened, I was ready to make a move. Just not too fast to make it obvious. I was planning on mentally torture him for a few days. I wanted Morin to be desperate so he would make the decision I wanted him to make.

--------------

After my university hours like everyday, I was in my father's office. I was the sole heir to the LeBlanc family. And I inherited the biggest company in the country. A light knock on the door of my office made me pull my head up. Joe stepped into the office and bowed. "Master Benjamin, Morin has been waiting for you for five hours already." He informed me and I nodded my head.

I looked at the wall clock. Time flies faster when you are enjoying yourself. "Send him in. And nail the idea in his head that I am very busy and all he is going to get is 5 minutes." Joe nodded his head and left. I got back to work. With a few more signatures, my work for the day was done. But I left the files and papers on my desk on purpose.

Another knock on the office door and I fought the urge to smirk. But I had to play the game myself this time. Morin came in and Joe followed him. "Remember, you only have 5 minutes. Mr LeBlanc is very busy these days." Joe did exactly as I had told him then left us alone.

"What's your business with me?" I asked rudely but I didn't raise my gaze from the papers I was pretending to read.

"Mr LeBlanc, I am Jeremy Morin, from Morin Tech's." I knew what he was doing. He wanted to remind me of the business relationship my father had with his father.

"And? What brought you here?" I asked nonchalantly.

"I have been to your casino a few times. Unlike you, I am just an unlucky soul. I am under your debt. And that's why I wanted to meet you." He added and I dramatically rolled my eyes.

"If you owe me, you get to pay. That's how a debt settles." I growled and he just narrowed his eyes.

"I don't have the money." He spoke lowly and I fought the smirk that was about to appear on my face.

"And? What do you want me to do about it? If you were poor, you shouldn't have gambled. I don't forgive any debt. You either pay or I will take your company. That's how it settles." I gave him only two options. But none of them were what I was interested in.

"That company is something my grandfather made from scratch. If I sell it, my father's soul will never forgive me. Please, Mr LeBlanc. There must be some other way. I am willing to do anything." He was suddenly on his knees, begging me to give him a way to compromise.

That's when I didn't fight the smirk that appeared on my face. He was completely under my control. "Let's see, miss Morin. If you can escape my trap this time." I thought, as I stood up and walked toward Morin.

CHARLOTTE'S POV:-

I was sitting in front of the mirror. I was wearing a beautiful white gown, embedded with pearls and diamonds. Everyone looked so happy. Yet my heart felt so empty. Rene readjusted my veil. Without uttering a single word, she left me alone in my bedroom. My heart was trembling with fear. I had no idea who my husband was. I hadn't seen him. For some reason, he insisted on letting me see his face on the day of our wedding.

I was thinking how my life suddenly turned upside down. I had just passed the entry test for Stanford university. And got a 50% scholarship as well. I went down to tell Jeremy and Rene that I was going to make my dad's dream come true. That I was going to Stanford. But I heard them talking.

For the first time in my life, I heard my brother crying so helplessly. He was beating himself. I stood at the corner and listened. Jeremy was addicted to gambling. And despite the way the company was after father's death, he didn't stop playing.

Turned out, he had lost too much and now the people he owed were asking him to pay. I would have walked away. I was not selfish. Just not an imbecile like him. Father had warned him so many times to leave it. He even sent Jeremy to rehab so he could get better. But every time, he ended up going back.

Then dad died and all the responsibilities were on his shoulders. I thought the responsibilities would sober him up. But I was so wrong. I was about to walk away when I heard him say, he was gonna sell the company to pay off his debt. Because he couldn't do what those people were asking him to give up.

My father always held the Morin Tech's dearly as if it was his brother. And he cherished the company. I knew the company was bankrupt by the time I turned 18. That's why I gave it to my brother. I had my own goals. But I just couldn't let him sell the company.

I ended up agreeing to the other option he had. And it was for me to give up my future and marry the man Jeremy owed. The thought of marrying some perverted old man, trembled my soul. But Jeremy reassured me that I was not marrying a perverted old man.

A light knock on my bedroom door pulled me out of the oceans of my thoughts. "It's time, Charle!" I nodded to Rene as I stood up. I took a few deep breaths to calm myself down. I held my head high, that's the pride my father left me with. Rene took me out of the room. Jeremy was standing in front of the villa, waiting for me.

"You look stunning." Jeremy whispered in my ear as he pecked my forehead. He grabbed my hand and led me towards the aisle. As I walked down the aisle, I was staring at the back of the man who was there as my groom. Yet he didn't show me his face. He turned around as Jeremy offered him my hand.

My breathing stopped the moment I saw that face again. And my body was numb. He placed his huge hand on the small of my back and led me towards the preacher. "Why are you here?" I asked as I found a bit of my strength back. He didn't answer me though.

The ceremony went way too smoothly. We exchanged our vows and slipped wedding bands into each other's fingers. "I announce you husband and wife. Mr LeBlanc, you may kiss your bride." The preacher announced. My heart stopped the moment Mr LeBlanc wrapped his arm around my waist and pulled me closer. With his other hand, he cupped my face and leaned closer.

He was staring into my eyes and I was trying to keep calm. "Don't you know, Tinkerbell? I am here to destroy you and break you completely. Welcome to your hell." He whispered softly while smiling so softly. His smile could melt any heart and at the same time, his words could stop any heart. Before I knew it, his lips were on mine. He kissed me roughly in front of everyone.

I sat alone at my long marble dining table, staring at a plate of cold truffle risotto. My husband, Jere, was late again, claiming he was stuck in a "war zone" of a board meeting for a multi-billion dollar merger. A single Instagram notification shattered the silence. It was a photo of a candlelit birthday dinner, featuring a man's hand resting on a white tablecloth. I recognized the slight veins, the jagged scar on the thumb, and the navy-faced Patek Philippe watch I had spent six months tracking down as a wedding gift. Jere wasn't in a boardroom; he was celebrating his ex-girlfriend Irina's birthday while texting me to "don't wait up." The next morning, I followed him to a VIP hospital wing. I watched through a cracked door as my husband cuddled a five-year-old boy and whispered tender promises to Irina. When he came home, he tried to buy my silence with a rare pink diamond bracelet, but I found the receipt: he had bought two identical ones. He had branded his wife and his mistress with matching jewelry, using hidden trackers to keep us both on a leash. When I confronted him, he didn't flinch. He coldly reminded me that he owned my father's massive debts and could send him to prison for insolvency fraud with one phone call. "Stop with the attitude, Deliah," he said. I felt like a ghost haunting my own life, trapped in a gilded cage by the man who paid for my mother's heart surgery while keeping a secret family across town. The humiliation peaked at our rescheduled anniversary dinner when Jere received a text, threw a stack of hundreds at me like I was a stranger, and abandoned me in a crowded restaurant to rush back to her. "Pay the bill," he commanded before walking out. Standing in the wreckage of a shattered crystal vase back at the penthouse, I realized my silence was the only thing keeping his empire standing. I pulled the crumpled divorce papers from my purse and signed my name with a steady hand. I wasn't just walking away; I was calling his sister to help me burn his perfect world to the ground.

The fluorescent lights buzzed overhead as I stared at the proposal on my computer screen, my eyes burning from hours of proofreading. The Sterling Tech subsidiary office had emptied hours ago, leaving me alone with the gentle hum of the air conditioning and the occasional ping from the security guard's desk downstairs. I glanced at my watch—11:43 PM. Michael should have been done with the corporate gala by now. He'd promised to call when it ended at ten, but my phone remained silent, its screen dark and accusatory on my desk. "Just one more page," I whispered to myself, massaging my temples. I'd been doing this for seven years—polishing Michael's presentations, fixing grammatical errors in his proposals, making sure every comma was in place so he could shine in front of the board. Tonight was no different, except for the heaviness in my chest that had been growing over the past few months. I saved the document and sent it to Michael's email, adding a simple note: *All done. Hope the gala went well.* No kiss emoji, no terms of endearment.
