An heir from my rejected mate Chapter 1

Prologue

( 19 years old Dana and Adria)

“ My heart is for him.”Adria said cheerily.“ I mean the way he looks at me each time is just so…” She placed her palm on her chest, heaving a dramatic sigh.

“ What about Damon?.” Dana questioned, altering Adria’s stance.

“ Tsk.. I’m not into him anymore. ” Adria said, scrunching her nose in disgust.

“ I thought you wanted to spend the rest of your life with him,” Dana said twitching her lips sideways, raising her brows.

“ That was then … when I was blind in love, Now I can see that my heart is for Alden, soon-to-be the Alpha.” Adria smiled, a dreamy look on her face.

Dana’s heart flinched a bit, what if she told her Alden’s Heart was for someone else? Alden had told her they were meant for each other and yet here is Adria, her best friend believing Alden is hers. Is something wrong somewhere? Could it be that she was mistaken?

Well, Alden had told me he loves and I love him too, I can’t give up my heart for my friend, she thought.

“What if his heart is for someone else… you know you can’t force fate.” Dana shrugged.

“ Fate?.” Adria scoffed.

“I know you care about me Dana, but don’t worry this is my destiny and I will do anything to fulfill it,” Adria said with so much confidence.

Dana tried not to laugh“ You’re just being delusional.” she rolled her eyes.

Adria stopped walking and stared at Dana“What do you mean? don’t be a hater.” She said, frowning.

Dana raised her hands in mock surrender“Okay… I’m sorry, I’m not hating.”

Adria returned to smiling, clasping her hands together“I can’t wait for the moonlight feast. Alden will be there and he’s going to look at me in my pretty dress.. that will be perfect.” She giggled

She turned to look at Dana “ Who knows if the moon goddess might give us a sign.”

Dana rolled her eyes“The feast isn’t about that. The moon goddess doesn’t give mating signs at the feast Adria.”

Adria scrunched her nose.

“ I can’t wait for when we will be mated and we will become couples.” Adria giggled as she clasped her hands together spinning around like a girl in a fairy tale.

“ You know that’s for the moon goddess to decide right?.” Dana said.

“ I don’t care about what the moon goddess decides, Alden is mine and mine alone and I won’t let anyone take him away from me,” Adria said, her voice dropping lower, her tone cold and sharp.

“Well… let’s see then.”Dana shrugged trying to keep her voice calm but her mind was racing.

There was awkward silence between them for a moment, before Adria’s voice broke the silence, maintaining a cheerful tone again.

“ Come on…let’s head back, we shouldn’t be late for the Moonlight feast, we need to go dress up fast.” She said, dragging Dana’s hand away.

“ Alden needs to see in my pretty dress.” She giggled.

The bass from the karaoke bar pulsed through my chest like a second heartbeat, each thump making my temples throb. I watched Lucca laughing with his pack brothers, his arm slung casually over Delta Marcus's shoulder as they belted out some terrible rendition of an old pack anthem. The crowd was a sea of familiar faces from Silvermoon, all here to celebrate our territory's founding anniversary. I'd been smiling for two hours straight, playing the perfect Luna-to-be, but the noise was finally winning. 'I need some air,' I murmured to Mira, who nodded with understanding before turning back to her own conversation. The cool night air hit my face like a blessing as I slipped through the bar's side door. Silvermoon territory at night was beautiful—the trees rustled gently, and moonlight painted everything in silver and shadow. I took a deep breath, letting Selene, my wolf, stretch contentedly within me. For just a moment, I could pretend I was alone with the night sky. Then I heard Lucca's voice.

Five years. That was one thousand, eight hundred, and twenty-five days of waking up cold. Today was our anniversary. Not that anyone in the Blood Moon Pack would be celebrating. To them, this wasn't the day their Alpha and Luna were united; it was the day the "real" Luna ran away, and the spare was shoved into a white dress to stop a war. I sat at my vanity, the enchanted glass reflecting a face that looked too pale, too tired for twenty-one. My hand drifted up to my neck, hovering over the smooth, unmarked skin there. A dull, throbbing ache pulsed beneath my fingertips—mate sickness. It was a low-level hum of pain that never went away, the physical consequence of a bond that had been legally recognized but never sealed with a bite. "Happy anniversary, Leona," I whispered to the empty room.

The morning sun streamed through the tall windows of Crescent Academy's grand hall, casting golden light across the polished wooden floors. I sat in the front row, my heart swelling with pride as I watched Zander cross the stage. Three years of sacrifice, late nights, and endless support had led to this moment. "Ladies and gentlemen," the headmaster announced, his voice echoing through the hall, "our valedictorian, Zander Campbell, has demonstrated extraordinary leadership skills and tactical brilliance throughout his time at Crescent Academy." Zander stepped forward, his tall frame commanding attention. His dark hair was perfectly styled, and his ceremonial Alpha robes fit him like they were made specifically for him—which, considering how much I'd invested in his education, they practically were. "Today marks not just an ending, but a beginning," Zander's voice carried confidently across the hall. "A beginning where we will build stronger packs, forge unbreakable alliances, and lead with both strength and wisdom." My fingers traced the intricate patterns on my dress as I listened. Those words—they were from the strategic frameworks I'd developed and shared with him during late-night study sessions. The pride in my chest expanded. This was our victory, our future.
